Slider w/Skrphne, BT and less than 18mm thick... What's Out There?

Hey everyone,

First post (been reading as a guest for a while....)

Been with Telus since 1997 (aka ClearNET) and I'm getting sick of their
phones. I don't care about SPARK or web-browsing. I just want a phone
without crippled Bluetooth so I can update my contact list and a
speakerphone. No extras, but it *has* to be thin. Like Samsung slider
thin (or RAZR/SLVR) but, obviously, CDMA.

The LG TG800 is one of my preferred (no CDMA & Fido's offer sucks) and
the Telus equivalent, the LG VX8500, is fatter and uglier with the fake iPod
control interface. Bleh. Then I read about how people can crash / freeze
LG phones. Not good. The Nokia 6265i is okay, but it's too thick.

I'm still happy with Telus' service, but can I take another provider's (Alltell
or whatever), get it unlocked and onto the Telus network?

Oh, and I don't like flip phones. Sliders and maybe CandyBars.

Give me a reason to jump to another provider!

Also: Do the Canadian providers support phone number migration yet?
CRTC mandated it, but everyone seems to be collusion... Bell, Telus, Fido
etc. are scratching each other's back when it comes to this. Sorry if this
is getting off topic.

Any phone suggestions based on my want list?

OK, first of all, its generally pretty hard to find any CDMA phones with fully enabled bluetooth...thats the cold hard truth of it. Secondly, CDMA phones cannot be unlocked or moved from one provider to another. Because of these two facts I really recommend that you move to a GSM provider (like Fido or Rogers) and buy an unlocked phone to use on it (unbranded, unlocked phones should have fully enabled bluetooth). GSM phones are great because you can use switch as much as you want with them.

As for number portability, yes it is happening, in March I believe...so I recommend you stay with your current phone/provider and then hop over to a GSM provider when portability comes.

Thanks for the info. Have you really climbed a CellTower?

Just figured out what the number migration thing was called...
Wireless Number Portability (WNP). Right on the March - the
date I saw on the CRTC site is March 14, 2007 for the release
of the number, but September 12, 2007 for the acceptance.

The way I see it... the big 3 will probably all be in collusion in
saying, "oh, we'll release your #, but we won't accept a number
from another provider until september 12" so you're still SOL
until Sept 12 because your number can't go anywhere.

Oh - the Chocolate is officially off my list because it doesn't
have vibrate (ooo that sounded dirty) and crippled BT.

Is there a slider phone out there that's thinner with all of the
features of the Nokia 6265i?

I'm not so sure whether that will really happen once WNP...I think most carriers will be happy to receive numbers from other wireless companies, I don't think they are THAT friendly...could be wrong though.

As for the 6265i, I really don't think there is anything out there that is in the same category spec wise unless you go GSM.

And no, I haven't climbed a cell phone tower
