Wirelessly posted (HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

I keep getting the page can not be found error every time I try to access media net on my 8525.
I have the media max 200 data plan and currently connected to wap.cingular

would a change to pda connect and isp.cingular correct this?

to use media net you have to have the proxy settings on which is wireless.cingular.com port 80

i am signed up for mediamax 200 but am not using the proxy but it is still working. am i going to end up with per kb charges?

I'm interested in this as well. I have MediaMax 1000. Will I have problems with the 8525?

I had a lot of problems with MEdiaMax 200 on my account with the 8525. For the first few days, it worked great. Then I started getting time out errors and it would just take forever to connect, even with the OpenDNS server changes. I switched to the PDAconnect plan and use isp.cingular and those issues have gone away.

Now it is possible that wap.cingular was having issues lately and that it was purely coincidental. Regardless, for the amount of data I've been using, I have no problem forking over the extra $25 ($5 for 200 msgs) to Cingular.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but where do I go to change my proxy settings so that I can get onto MEdia Net?

try settings/connections/connections/advanced/select network and change that to MediaNet. you should be good to go after that.

I'm not a Cingular customer-- but considering joining in the next few months. Does MediaNet give you full internet access to all sites with the proxy setting wireless.cingular.com port 80?

well, if your referring to the MediaNet package you pay for monthly through cingular then yes it gives you access but if your referring to just the MediaNet site that's jsut cingular's site to access ringtones, news, etc...if you take the proxy off you wont be able to access the MediaNet site but you can still surf the web...

Yeah-- speaking of the MediaNet package you pay for monthly. So how much is the cheapest unlimited data plan on Cingular? I tried pulling it up on their site for about half an hour and the page kept coming back with "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" errors. Thanks in advance

Had a question, if I were to get the 8525 as I plan on. In order to receive the rebate I have to sign up with the 39.99 PDA Connect - unlimited. Now after I receive my rebate, can I log into my Cingular account online and change it to MediaMax200? I really don't want to have to end up dishing out $40 a month on data, when it's not needed. Has anyone done this successfully? Thanks!

While I haven't done it. I am not adding it. I am just getting the device. it should be here by monday the latest. I figure (and this has been confirmed by store and CS reps) if just about 95% of the places i go have a wifi connection, i don't need to waste the extra $$'s on a data plan when it's going to pay for it's self everywhere i go. Not to mention that $50 will make up for not having to gat a plan up front. As for when i'm not in a place with wifi... well i have the "coveted" grandfathered unlimited MEdiaNet. and i primarily would use it to check my business email... My service plan sits at about $78 a month, 600 nationwide minutes, roll over, and M2M - $49.99 and 1500 sms/IM messages, 200 mms, and Unlimited data - $19.99!

the cheapest one they currently have is the MediaMax 200 plan thats 19.99 for 200 txt, sms, mms combined and unlimited MediaNet and Cingular Video...but you will need the 39.99 PDA plan in order for you to get the $50 dollar mail-in rebate and then change it to the MediaMax 200 plan after 30 Days...people used to say that you had to keep the plan for 60 or 90 days to get the rebate but the people at cingular told me 30 days then you'll be able to get the rebate....with all the hassle i said screw the rebate and just got the 19.99 MediaMax 200 bundle....basically, spend 40 bucks to get 50 bucks back, 10 bucks savings is not worth all that hassle...

exactly. Its moronic to do that for a $50 rebate.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the help!

I'm assuming tethering is possible, but risky (kb charges etc.) and discouraged by Cingular? Or is it not possible at all?
