Jabra FreeSpeak and S55 problems?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem: I cannot seem to get the FreeSpeak to stay connected to my S55, so that whenever I receive a call, the FreeSpeak doesn't connect for me to answer. the result is that I don't hear the Ring unless I have the phone near me.

It sort of defeats the purpose of being wireless.

Any help is appreciated!

My friend had a similiar prob using the freespeak... you can try what he did... go to menu 9-6-4 and in the known device menu delete the connection for the freespeak then repair your freespeak with the s55... that may help it did with his...
also in menu 9-9-2 there is an option for headset option for auto answer

I tried that and it didn't help. There's something about the way the S55 treats BT headsets; I don't have this problem with the 6310i or 8910i. In fact, with those two headsets, they're much easier for the phone to recognize.

I sincerely hope that the Siemens HHB-500 headset is better-suited for this phone, though at $175, I can't see my way clear to spending the money when I already HAVE a BT headset.

While a lot of people don't like Nokia or perhaps the 6310i, I've not had any problems with that phone or its functions at all. The GPRS to Tungsten T and my iPAQ 5455 work fine, the BT headset connection works flawlessly, everything.

I keep trying to remain positive and find reasons for me to use this phone full-time, but at nearly every turn I've come upon a reason to ditch it altogether.

Oh well. . . .

sorry to hear you're havin' trouble with your freespeak. I don't own one but have tried it... I use the Sony Ericsson HBH 30 and have had no probs with it. You may wanna pm mantis5... he has a freespeak and seems to know it quite well perhaps he can give some insight on it. Good luck

Yes, but I really don't think it's the FreeSpeak as much as it is the S55. The FreeSpeak works perfectly well with the 6310i and 8910i that I have.

I've had too many other problems with the S55 to keep using it, so I put it on eBay for auction.

I'm back to Nokia for the time being; maybe the S57 or whatever it is will be better.

I'm also sorry to hear that. i have the Freespeak as well and had and have no problem whatsoever. It might just be your particular phone. My S55 recognized the headset right away.

Good luck with it.

@-----Demon Knight sorry to hear things didn't work out...
maybe the s56 would be better for you when it's released... I don't know anyone who has had major problems with the s55. If you wanted to give it a last shot before you sell it on Ebay you may wanna try a f/w upgrade and see if that helps correct the issues.

You don't understand: the S55 recognized and paired with my headset; it's just that it (the FreeSpeak) doesn't respond when the phone rings, even when I press a button. It's not the headset, as it works fine with two other phones I own. And even to test that theory, I went out and bought another FreeSpeak and used that one, only to get the same result.

I exchanged the phone, thinking I got a faulty one, but the same thing happens.

All in all, it ends up being too much work to make something work that should work right out of the box, like it does with my two Nokia phones, or my co-worker's Ericsson.

So I took it as a sign to cut bait and leave it be.

Well I have been in your position with another mobile a couple years back so I know what it's like. Well if you decide to get a s56 down the road hopefully it'll work out for ya. Regardless of fone tho I hope you don't have any more probs... God knows how much I hate them and know how frustrating it can be when u got a bad fone and no matter what u do it's just not responding well thats my 2 cents anyways. See ya in the forums.

Demon Knight,

I had the same problem with the Freespeak/s55 and was able to fix it by upgrading my firmware to .08. It seems to work best with .08 so stick to that one. I installed .09 and the Freespeak takes a second or two longer to activate when placing and recieving a call. Give that a try cause I am pretty sure it will solve your problem.

So it was quicker with 08?

I would say that with version .08 the Jabra connected in 1/2 to 1 seconds and with .09 it takes 1 to 2 seconds. It does not seem like much but with .09 for instance when I call my voicemail the first 5 or 6 words that the voicemail lady says I miss. I did not have that problem with .08(obviously assuming that I hit the talk on the phone and the button on the Jabra at the same time) I have yet to get the Bluespoon headset to work with the s55. It has the same problems that the Jabra used to have before I upgraded the firmware.

So which f/w are you using now?

My phone already has firmware .08

If it's got f/w 08 then unfortunately it's gotta be the fone IMO. Has anyone else had these same errors at all or has everyone been able to successfully use a freespeak with the s55 with no errors? Although I don't use the Jabra when I first got my HBH 30 I had a few probs trying to pair it with the s55 but after a few min of toying around with it I got it and never had prob.

I am not sure I entirely understand the problem, but here's how it is working for me. Once the phone is paired, I can answer the incoming call by pressing the call answer button on the freespeak. The BT icon on the phone screen then becomes two icons, showing the connection is made. When I end the call by pressing the button on the freespeak, the BT icon goes back to one BT symbol. Next incoming call I hear over the phone speaker but NOT the headset. If I press the button on the headset it answers the call. I find this acceptable.

If I understand Demon Knight correctly, he is unable to answer by pressing the headset button, and this is a problem I have not had.

That's EXACTLY the problem I have.

Posted by: Synncere

Intersting... everytime my mobile rings I always hear it in the HBH 30 headset... I wonder why the Jabra does that?

Posted by: PDADoc

I don't know, but as I said, it doesn't work that way with any other phone I have. Not only that, but the way it works with my other phones is consistent and not dependent on the model number of the phone.
