I'm buying a phone as a gift. It needs to be GSM and will be used on Rogers.

He doesn't need to have all features such as web access and messaging. Basic functions are needed such as good reception, sound quality, battery life, etc. It'd be nice to have a camera and maybe mp3.

I'm open to any opinions and like to research a little more.

He likes my Ericsson K800 but doesn't want something that expensive. Oh yea, the phone needs to look neat too lol.

If signing up with 3-year contract, you got a bunch of choices. I would go w/ either the Samsung D807x. A really nice slider, brightsharp screen, all the trimmings of a higher-end phone , the Sony Ericsson w300 isn't bad either, great as an entertainment phone (i personally think it's got ugly keys though), SE have great reception and realiability, in my experience anyway. I'm biased towards motorola's and nokia's since they've all died on me firmware/hardware wise.
