Sharp GX30/GX30i Bluetooth

I have a GX30 (or maybe it's a GX30i, how do I find out) and I am trying to copy images on it over to my laptop using a Bluetooth device I bought (it's like a flash drive).

The problem is that my phone is not detected (many other phones are detected). When I choose to search for devices on the mobile the laptop appears but like every other device on the list it's greyed out and can't be selected.

Can anyone tell me why this is?

Any helped at all is very much appreciated!

Niall

The GX30 works with headsets only. The GX30i works with devices that support the OBEX data transfer profile.

So, I'd say yours is a GX30, as it's refusing to work with those 'other devices' that you mention.

It's locked down unfortunately the GX30i is a bit better on this.

Damn, that's what I was dreading!

Is there any way I can transfer the images without buying a headset?

I was intending to transfer the images to my Sony Ericsson S700i using my laptop as a go-between (and leaving a few of the images on the laptop).

Buying a headset won't help you transfer the images; headsets are just for making voice calls.

Unfortunately the GX30 just can't be made to send files over Bluetooth. Might be worth trying a memory card reader, and putting the files on an SD card and moving them over that way.

How do I go about doing that?

Go to a computer store and buy a USB memory card reader. They're quite cheap. You just plug them into a USB port in your laptop, and you can then plug the SD card into it and access its contents like any other disk drive. Then, you just copy files to and from the card in the way you please.

Thanks, and is the SD card also known as the memory card?

Posted by: AL9999

Yeah. The SD card is the type of memory card the GX30 uses. Others include Memory Stick, CompactFlash, SmartMedia, miniSD card, etc.

Ah right, thanks a million for the help!

That's what I'm using... an SD card.... I've tested a 256 MB card in it and it works fine, not sure about larger sizes... you probably won't need that large an SD card anyway on such a crippled phone... it's why my sister bought a 902SH to replace it. Well, actually she bought one after I nagged her for months on end.... but hey... i did that for a reason!

Anytime.

GX30 supports big cards, but access speed slows down the bigger the card gets, particularly with picture thumbnail loading - they take forever to show up on really big cards.
