(8525) Out of Storage space? What the heck???

Alright, I have a 2gb microSD card coming in the mail within the next couple of days. Unfortunately, everything that I think would need to be installed into the 8525 (Memory wise) I installed except for one software (Netfront browser). I'm having issues installing it due to storage space. What the heck? I only installed the "usual" softwares that I expect needs to be on memory. The following are softwares I installed:

1. SBSH Pocket Breeze
2. SBSH Ilauncher
3. SBSH Pocket Weather
4. SBSH Handylist
5. SBSH Time
6. PhoneAlarm
7. Skype
8. Agile Messenger
9. TMPCP
10. SiriusWM5
11. Resco Registry
12. Pocket Informant/PhatNote Lite
13. Tipster

Wow I just gave everyone a list. Anything on this list that shouldn't be on Memory? Maybe Tipster but it's such a small footprint. Nevertheless, I still need to install Netfront 3.3 but according to the installer, I'm out of storage space. Grrrrrr.....

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Can you check how much memory you got left? Also, people usually try to install the "essential" apps on the memory (which are on the today screen etc) and non-essential on the Storage card (like Skype) to save space ..

I would guess 1 thru 6 on main memory (not sure about sbsh, I use spb and install those on main), 7 thru 11 on storage card (I have these on storage card and they work fine), 12 on main (even tho it says it will work on storage card) 13 on storage card. A good rule of thumb, if it resides on the today screen, you may need it in main memory, if not add to storage card.

That would sound about right ... SBSH stuff is similar to SPB ... so main memory (atleast most of it) ... donno about 12 and 13 tho ..

That all makes sense eagle1.

Gravejoker: My memory so far is about 28. Free space storage is 17. Hmm quite confused actually. When I go into Memory settings, I see Program and Storage Memory. What's the difference?

Either way:

Storage: 17.05 MB left
Program: 22.07 MB left

Hmm. Is Netfront really that large?

Your issue may be that the netfront CAB file is large. The CAB install is large. If you have 17 free and download a 12M CAB then you really only have 5M free. The 5M may not be enough to install the CAB onto your storage card. I would move some stuff to the card to free up some space then go from there. Also the installer may be running out of program memory while its installing. You may want to move the CAB file to your phone, soft reset to clear out memory, then launch the CAB file and try to install...

Storage is the space left on your ROM .. and Program memory is your RAM ..

I don't know what else to move or delete. I have even tried to move the actual cab file to the phone and perform an install from there. Even tried to do soft resets so to clear the memory. I will attempt again I guess. Any other suggestions?

The only option seems to be, I need to wait for my microSD and move some of the "non-essential" files to it. *sigh*

I should be looking at the Storage space then. And Program memory for?

Posted by: gravejoker

As a rule of thumb, the install CABs should be put on the Storage card to save space ... Did you try removing the old install CABs? How big the Netfront CAB by the way?

Program memory is your RAM .. how much available RAM is there to run your apps

It's storage that pops up when it tells me that I'm out of memory. The file of the cab itself is 10mb. All the old CAB files have been deleted, as well.

10MB is huge ... while installing it will need to extract all the files (size probably > 10MB) ... so you need atleast 10 + 10 MB ... and you have 17MB .. hence the error ..

You should really install this from the storage card and on the storage card ... 10MB is just way too huge ... for a PPC device .. havent seen any app yet of this size ..

I just ran out of memory today also. I'm still waiting on my 1GB card. It ended up being all the temp internet files that sucked down my space. I went from 30KB left to 14 MB once I deleted those files. If you have done any web surfing at all on your phone, then you will have wasted memory on temp files.

Start/Internet Explorer/Menu/Tools/Options/Memory/ Then click Delete Files

You wil need to experiment with what will work fine on the storage card. You can probably put agile messenger, siriuswm5, resco registry, and phone alarm on there.

You can move your temp internet files to the storage card too.

Yes, I took that into consideration as well. I usually am good at keeping it clean with cache's.

lol...that's actually a lot left for a pda....i've got
13.1 MB for storage
21.2 MB for programs

i just have to make sure i do some cleaning up at least once a day depending on how much web-surfing i do...i use pocket mechanic pro to free up ram and temp files....plus, one thing that would free up a lot of storage space is erasing all those crapy pre-installed ring tones that are in the windows/rings folder...if you see those files are pretty large....you easily free up about 3 to 5 MBs of space....plus, just through the other folders and erase all pre-intalled crap like sample pictures, videos etc...

Hmm I have to find these crap ring tones. Windows/rings you say....a hunting I will go, a hunting I will go...

I am in 8525 h*ll

I have run out of storage on my 8525 and I can't seem to uninstall anything else. I am getting error codes 0x80070070. I have deleted all temp ie files. I have a big pim file that I can't move. I have a storage card. HELP!

Posted by: damba98

and I tried to remove them with Resco but received an error stating that they are part of the ROM and cannot be deleted. Do I have any options to remove the crappy ringtones?

cheers,
Pedro
