i primarily hold my phone with my right hand....i currently have a moto Q on verizon and the scroll is on the right side, and i like it very much....so I dont understand why the scroll is on the left of the 8525? I'd assume the majority of peeps are right handed....I dont know, am I missing something?

I'm lefty and i thought it should be on the right as well

maybe HTC thought that since most people are right handed, that they would hold the 8525 in their LEFT hands so they could write with the stylus. I'm righty and I often use my left hand to navigate using the scrollwheel so I'm not bothered by it.

Exactly what importluva said - righties hold the phone in their left hand.

I third that. That's exactly how I use it. But the real reason is probabally because the 8125 had the volume slider on the left side and the scroll wheel replaces this physical feature.

I'm also right handed, but I would find it weird to navigate the phone with my right hand. For some odd reason, it just seems more natural to use my left thumb to navigate. Maybe I'll get use to it.

Coming from BB, I would have liked it in the right side. But if you are surfing IE it's useful to use the wheel with the left and navigate the page with the right hand.

Ok folks. The fingers had enough action. It's time for thumb action.

On almost all Pocket PCs (PDA/phone or straight PDA), the scrollwheel (or other similarly functioning key) is always on the left side. I think it's just the standard and traditional design of any Pocket PC, and I think HTC didn't want to deviate too much from the standard Pocket PC layout.
Does anyone know if HTC manufactures a PDA/phone with an OS other than Windows Mobile? If so, where is the scrollwheel on that device? It would most likely be on the same side as other devices that use that other OS. So if HTC made a PDA/phone based on RIM's Blackberry design then the scrollwheel would be the same side as other Blackberries.
Where is the scrollwheel on Palm PDA's?

As for the scrollwheel on the Motorola Q being on the right side, the Q is more of a Smartphone than a Pocket PC PDA like the 8525. There is no standard or traditional key layout on them, even though they may use the same OS (Windows Mobile).

since the moto q is a smartphone and people don't need to touch the screen or even write on the screen then a right handed person would just need to navigate with their right hand since there is no touch involved...it just makes sense that way...

The old Sony Clies (PalmOS)(mine was the sj22) had the scroll wheel on the left side. That's one reason why I like the 8525. I'm left-handed, so I have my stylus in the left hand and scroll with my right forefinger. Great!!!

I'm a righty, I came from the blackberry to the 8525, and I always thought the scroll wheel was on the wrong side on the BB. I'm much more at home now with the 8525.

HTC only make WM devices

I'm a righty with a Blackjack and wish the scrollwheel was on the left since I hold my phone with my left hand while using it. That reason alone is making me contemplate moving to the 8525.

It's also on the left side so you can still use it while the screen is open...
