Force Send/Rx icon? - Not staying connected - spbWeather not updating - slow DNS?

Lotta topics for one thread, but are they related?

I check 2 POP accounts with my 8525, and I have them both set to check every 10 minutes.
Is there a way to put an icon on the desktop (I use PocketPlus) to force a send/receive? It's a bunch of steps to open the e-mail app, then click menu, then go to send/rx...

Along these same lines, I have noticed that sometimes (most? all?) when I force the send/rx, it goes to "connecting" --- shouldn't it always be connected? This has me concerned that it might not actually be checking every 10 minutes...

I also am playing with spbWeather, with it set to update every 2 hours - almost every time that I look, it is more than 2 hours old - actually, I think in the past 3 or so days, it has only appeared to update itself once or twice.

I'm thinking both of these things are related, in that I am "falling off the network" or something - at least the data network.

When web browsing, when a new page is requested, it sits on "Locating" for a very long time - once the page starts loading, it is reasonably fast - but this delay looks like it is having trouble finding the page - is that a DNS issue? Should I change to use the DNS from my PC ISP or something else?

I had the exact same problem... upgrading my Radio to 1.16 fixed it right up, as well as upgrading my ROM to newest Cingular WM5 Build with TyTN Ext. ROM. Read up on xda-developers if you wish to learn more about doing all this.

Fantastic - at least there is a fix - except - which problem were you having that this cured?

How involved is this "fix"?

Specifically, what you described as "falling off the network" and SPBWeather not updating regularly. The fix is as follows... you need to apply a SuperCID to your 8525... before doing that you have to downgrade your ROM to a Cingular prototype ROM with a 1.04 Bootloader... then you downgrade the Radio ROM and then unlock it using Prof's unlock tool on xda-developer's website. Then you can upgrade the ROM to whatever you like, along with upgrading the radio to 1.16. It takes a few hours and it improves the device immensely!

The 8525 already has radio 1.16, at least mine does. Not sure if this is related but I wasn having a problem with the default weather template/service that spb weather uses. I switched to the weatherchannel.com template.

That's interesting... mine came with an earlier radio version from the factory. Perhaps it's been updated since it's release?

How do I find the radio version in mine?

And to be honest, that sounds like a lot of work...

if the general idea of all of that is to get the radio to 1.16, my 8525 is already there.

conquror - did that fix your spbweather problem?

I REALLY don't want to get into updating roms and stuff if I can avoid it.

If that's all that's wrong with your phone, the fix i posted fixed my spb weather. If you are having radio problems, that's another story.

I guess I don't know if I am having radio problems. I know that it takes a very long time "locating" while web browsing, and pretty much every time I force a send/rx it has to go through it's "connecting" routine. It also doesn't seem to update the weather every time - I'll try your fix for the weather thing to see if that helps it.

I just wondered if others experienced this "locating" and "connecting" thing like I have been. That could help determine if it's my phone, or just the way things are.
