Does Tetris cost airtime? Can I only listen to ringtones and not my mp3's while I am playing the game?

That was my big qualm. Love tetris.

In the info it says it does, but I dont see why it WOULD.

Im on the fence about buying it still.

I have tetris, I was wondering about the airtime charges though. The game still plays fine in "standalone mode" and with that you aren't connected to the network, so does Tetris add up the minutes of usage and then charge the minutes on your bill later? Not sure how that works. Oh, and it seems that you can only select ringtones as your in-game music, i think

Posted by: Lucky24

Massive Snowboarding is really fun. Except the controls are bjorked. As most games, the number keys are used, but they don't seem to work on the 9900.

I really wish Need for Speed was available on the 9800/9900 ... it's the best VCAST game and we don't even get it! Has anyone played Asphalt Urban GT 2 3D? Is it any good? ...I really want a driving game.

Also, I think tetris uses airtime when doing the scores? You should see the little icon come on when it's using the network.

Posted by: Lucky24

So, NFS:U2 is available on the 9800...but not the 9900. Is the phone REALLY that poorly backwards compatible?

And it looks like the number keys DO work in Massive Snowboarding...but the "2, Q, W, E, S" keys aren't mapped to anything.

Well, if you do get it, it's the Tetris version where you can listen to your tunes while playing the game.
Although, the strange thing is, that it seems you can only listen to your ringers while you play the game not music from "my_music"... kinda sux

It's not that, I think the programmers have to tweak the games slightly so they work on a different handset. Also, the GIN catalog is updated every week (tuesday-wednesday perhaps), so time will tell... we may get NFS Carbon in a few weeks

Edit: BTW, Mission Impossible 3 is super-good on the 9900 .

What games have people tried and what ones do you like?

Posted by: lizzul589

Also if a game uses airtime to play does it use airtime the entire time you are playing the game?

Posted by: cowisgood

My friend has about 60-100 imported games on his SE w810 (with T-mobile) that he didn't pay a cent for.
That being said, I can't it in myself to spend $7 to get something as simple as Tetris.

Posted by: agent623

tried aliens vs predator. Graphics were really good for a phone, but the gameplay was not very good. Didn't play long enough to encounter any aliens.

Massive Snowboarding is still the best game IMHO. I wish NFS was available. I actually like Chessmaster, even though I don't normally like chess programs, but I do like chess. Lumines is very, very good. The best mass-appeal game. Brothers In Arms is actually kinda fun, though the control problems with the phone make it a bit annoying.

Airtime is usually only when playing multiplayer, when downloading extra contente (it notifies you that it's doing this), or when uploading global high scores. You can see the data icon come on when it's transferring data. I've yet to see it just randomly connected, though that's definitely possible for a game to do.

Is it possible to download a video game in the correct format that games are from Get It Now and transfer them via bluetooth or the USB cable to a flash card?

You can buy/download a game from Get It Now and then you can back it up and do whatever you want with it - you could even put it on your SD card.
It won't do anything though.

Your Brew games or apps will only work on the phone that bought/downloaded it, and they will only work from the correct Brew folder(s) that they belong (where they were originally).

By the way, it looks like a bunch of new-to-the-9900 games have just been put up. I found both Orcs & Elves and Zuma (neither of which went through the "What's New" section, though Zuma is in the Top Sellers list). Probably a bunch of other new ones too, but I've been waiting for those two

Posted by: Lucky24

OooO...might have to DL Orcs & Elves, I heard Doom RPG was good, but I just can't bring myself to play doom without a mouse.

What's Zuma like? I've heard it's supposed to be good, but I have no idea exactly how it plays...

Posted by: The Man of Stee

Zuma is awesome. I originally started playing on my 360, then got it on my old phone. Its a million times better looking on my 9900 though, and very addicting. Its easy enough, basically shooting a colored ball to match with other colors, but it was quite challenging toward the end.

Doom RPG was surprisingly entertaining (I played it last spring, pre-9900), and this from someone who wasted many happy/scared hours on PC-based Doom, back in the day. It's turn-based, but waaay less horrible than that sounds. Basically, Carmack (he of Doom/Quake graphics engine fame) got a cellphone, became dismayed at the state of games on the platform, and set out to do better.

Orcs & Elves is the follow-on to Doom RPG, and has much the same gameplay, only with, well, Orcs and Elves this time, instead of Cacodemons and Zombie Marines. I find one thumb on the D-pad and one on the 1/2/3 keys works pretty well, and if you keep moving, it looks like an FPS

And Zuma is a fun alternative to Tetris and Bejeweled in the match-colors-to-destroy-them genre. Colored balls spiraling in towards you, powerups to knock them back, and the theme is well done.

I'm sure there are (or soon will be) better games for the 9900 (I'd love a good FPS, a good driving game, and a good vertical scrolling shooter), but these are two that I was holding off buying for my old phone, because I knew I'd been getting the 9900 eventually. And I was thrilled yesterday when they both showed up in Get It Now.

Not to flame but does that mean if your friend steals clothes, you wouldn't buy them yourself because someone else is getting clothes for free?

Back on topic, I have Lumines, had it on my Sammy A950 and I loved the game. Kinda weird how it does have some slow-down (both on the A950 and 9900) but I'm guessing that was a design flaw from the designers, and also, it's not frequent enough to really aggravate gameplay.

I had Massive Snowboard on my A950 too but accidentally deleted it (no, Verizon will NOT refund your money!! haha, they only issue refunds based on if your phone dies, and you need a replacement, then they will do so.) I had trouble with its controls though, anyone who has it can give their experience with gameplay? Does anyone find it difficult to play games in general on the 9900?

Ah, so you like Zuma? Can you play against others online? I find that pretty entertaining when I'm board, to pop out a game real quick and (hopefully) kick their *ss.

"The asphualt driving game is fun as hell. I prolly spent over 2 hours already playing it and i bought it yesturday. I reccommend it"

Jaepoori, is it 3D based? Also, how are the controls? Sometimes I find 3D games difficult to really take control of with cell phones... which is why I usually just buy puzzle games like Lumines/Tetris/Bejeweled

Uhm, no. But the source he got them from was free. They were made to be downloadable for free on phones. I'd love to have a lot of games for my 9900, but just buying like 5-10 can really rack up extra money to your bill. Games are just something I consider to be free to the public. It doesn't cost much to make a little cheapy flash game for a phone.

Posted by: themopedwhiz

you are NOT getting a cheapie little flash game, and you know it

most of these games are ported overfrom big dollar PC games, and the licensing cost VZW and the developers big time..

if it was some flash version of 'rummy' or solitare you wouldn't even have any intrest in it and wouldn't be playing it,

Posted by: themopedwhiz

nobody makes you buys games to play on your phone, you can buy them and play them or you can play them on your Xbox, your choice, just because you want them doesn't make them free

me I don't download and pay subscription fees to play games on the phone, I do with out..

do i wish, I could get 3rd party java games, yes

and for $2 i might get a game, but for $10 , i can do with out instead of steal it

I guess I was under the impression those "free downloadable games" were really basic, elementary-styled flash games... (but I really don't wish to get schooled on which games they are getting for free.) Cell phone gaming is an expanding market, meaning x% of consumers WILL buy those games. VW caught on and from a business stand-point was aggressive (perhaps overly) and yeah, makes their customers pay for licensed games. As for calling VW nickel-and-diming ****faces, that's a different topic in and of itself, but personally I'd rather just be thankful that we have the option to put pretty decent games on our phones in the first place

That being said, I do wish Tetris would sell at like $3 instead of double that... oh well, deal with it right?

Posted by: cowisgood

Hey if you want to be a fool and waste your money on games that, rather you want to believe or not, don't cost much, then go ahead. I choose to use the many other functions on my phone rather than give in and spend around 35 bucks for like 5 games, that will be boring in a couple of weeks.

Posted by: CarlRJ

Uh, folks, sorry, but can we please get back to the intended topic of people's experiences with games on the LG VX-9900, rather than devolving this thread into yet another "Verizon is/isn't ripping us off" thread? There are plenty of those around, please feel free to go dredge one up and continue the angst there

Yes, it's a shame we can't play Java games on Verizon phones, yes, I'd be happier too if the games available weren't quite so spendy. But we all signed up with Verizon knowing we were forgoing more widely available Java games/apps, in exchange for top-notch network coverage and forums not hip-deep in customer service horror stories. Frankly, it doesn't bother me too much to put $30 into a handful of games that'll help pass moments spent waiting here and there over the next two years I'll be using this phone (you could put more than that into one game for a console and still get tired of it in a week). But I want to make sure the money is well spent, which gets back to the topic at hand. What games a worthwhile on the 9900?

I'll quit whining now... On topic... I bought Lumines the other day, based partly on mentions in this thread, and have been quite pleased so far. I've consciously avoided Tetris & Bejeweled, the old standbys, because Tetris has been done to death, and Bejeweled was underwhelming on my previous phone, when compared to playing on a Palm (stylus owns the d-pad for Bejeweled). Lumines takes Tetris in a new direction, rather than just giving it a new paint job (as so many of the Tetris clones do). I can tell that I'll be playing it for a while

Posted by: Lucky24

Hmm.. the games that have stood the test of time are...

1) Massive Snowboarding
2) Lumines (damn, it gets hard later on! Waaaaaay better than tetris or bejewled, IMHO)
3) Chessmaster (just because it picks up where you left off last time you exited without having to go through a bunch of menu options - handy for picking up, playing a move, then coming back a few hours later)

MI:3 is an awesome platformer, but it's pretty short (though there's 3 difficulty levels, so I've found myself going back to it when i get bored of lumines or chess.)

As for Asphalt...good game, but not amazing or anything. The sound is bjorked on my unit, and the load times are a bit annoying. A solid racer, though.

Just downloaded the new Monopoly game. Called Monopoly Here and Now.

Pretty cool. Regular monopoly updated to modern names and cost. Think they timesd everything by 1000.

The Moped Wiz is fully Right, The quality of many of the GIN games is top notch....
If you doubt that VZW games are sick, feel free to pick up a handset in a VZW store and play some of the Vcast games. The Verizon Phone Games are Really Good, Way better than any "1001 of the neatest games on 1 CD" BS. you can pick up in Wal Mart.
So Far I already have over half a dozen games for my 9900, they are all excellent quality and playability.

I see you're very good at math. 4x2=6? ummmm I was saying $6 does seem slightly high. $4 would be better! Some people on these forums need to read before posting, WOW. keep it up.

At least in your post you do point that VCAST games are quality games, I agree with that. Massive Snowboarding in particular is pretty nice

I'm sorry, I guess we are misunderstanding eachother. The Full price of tetris is $8.00 (= 4x2) and I still think there is not too much of a significant difference between the Subscription vs. the Full price. But, for some people, I guess 9.99 extra showing up on their cell phone bill might break the bank... Here's an Idea,... sit on the freeway off-ramp with a cardboard sign that says "will work for Tetris on my vx9900" Just a thought.

For anyone interested in an example of the actual gameplay in Orcs and Elves...Video
For anyone wondering about Rayman on the vx9900... Video

I just downloaded the WeatherBug app and it's a pretty decent weather app. It gives you all the basic weather information including animated radar. It also shows live camera screenshots from various locations. There are seven camera's located around my city that I was able to view screencaps on, which are all in high traffic areas. These camera's are generally used by the city news stations to display traffic status reports as well as weather updates. Comes in handy during the morning drive to work to get a quick peek at what traffic I'm heading into.

The only problem I have with the app is that it does not show up on any of the get it now menus. I have to go into the secret menu and to the Get It Now settings to launch the app. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a way to fix it?

Perhaps you should try going into that menu, selecting: Get it now setting/get it now, scroll to "settings" and select "move apps" ,.. might be worth a try?

I'm not much of a gamer but did enjoy the occasional distraction of playing Tetris on my old VX-4500 that I recently upgraded from to the enV VX-9900. I didn't need all of the enV's bells & whistles but thought it might be fun to have for the $50 it cost after discounts. But, for Tetris or Ms. Pac-Man which I also decided to download, I personally think the enV sucks. The joypad is just too darn small I think and I don't have but average-size hands. I can still play the games but will never be able to manipulate them as quickly as I could on the VX-4500. With the OK button in the center of the pad and the shallow ridge between the joypad edge and CLR button, I find it difficult NOT to accidentally hit those buttons and cause a screen change.

Off topic, it was also a disappointment to see that only after the DUN hack could I get the 1X internet connection that my VX-4500 readily supported, and yet at only half the baud rate of the VX-4500. That's progress for ya'!

I figured out the problem. There was an error on the Config_Going.txt file on the phone. I made a change in that file and it appeared as it should in the proper get-it now menu after rebooting the phone.

How did you edit the file? with Notepad or a Hex editor? also.... what exactly did you edit in the file? I would appreciate some help as I am trying to restore some games and I forgot to back up the 2 Config_.txt files and am trying to edit them to get my games to show.

Is the sound on the game supposed to stop when you press a key? It's kind of annoying how the music and effects pause whenever I hit a button and the button noise comes up. I tried turning the keypad volume all the way down, but it still paused the game sounds. Is there a fix for this?

hey, new register here but i have been reading the boards for a long time...

i downloaded massive snowboarding and i get a blue screen that says vx9900 and locks my phone when i click to load the game! tetris downloaded and plays fine.. called verizon and was told that there is nothing they could do about it .made me redownload it and still the same thing... anyone else have this problem!?!?

thought i would post in this thread to make other users aware of my problem with that game even though people are using it fine.

I have seen posts about the games, but not anything addressing this one specifically. I upgraded from the 9800 to the 9900. I downloaded Zuma because it rocks and it is all I played on the 9800. On my 9900, I noticed a significant drag in the game. It is almost as if the phone it not capable of keeping up with the graphics, which I doubt is the cause, but that is how it acts. It is not as fluid as on the 9800. I am hoping someone out there has also upgraded from the 9800 to the 9900 and also like zuma. But has anyone else noticed slow down?

Thanks

FINALLY!!!!
YES!, Absolutely. Massive snowboarding causes the "vx9900" blue screen of death on my handset as well. I have deleted it and re-downloaded it numerous times and it always freezes my phone when I try to play it. I have just learned to live without it. I called CS and had an extensive conversation with them and they assured me that Tetris does NOT cost airtime to play. You can verify this for yourself by checking on VZW.com or just click Here
Customer Service said that the "info" description that you get when about to download the game on the 9900 is incorrect. They assured me that what is online at VZW.com is correct... i.e. "no airtime charges for use" for Tetris.

Does anyone here have Tetris and play your own music while you are playing tetris? I seem to only be able to access ringtones to play during Tetris, not songs from my_music. Anyone else having this problem?

Yikes thanks for the heads up guys...

I bought Andretti Racing3D for my enV, because I read reviews that it was good, and because it was a V Cast game that does NOT use airtime. And I love it. The sounds DO get interupted when you press the keys for steering, which is mildly irritating, but overall, I think it's a great game. Maybe it's just because of the small screen (who can see fine details on a cellphone screen?) - but the graphics seem better than most PS1 games I used to enjoy. Everytime you start it you get the option to use sound or not - even though the sound is flaky, I like it better with than without. Great game for when you're sitting somewhere killing time for whatever reason.

Has anyone played Fight Night R3 yet? I heard this game has pretty complex controls to begin with (ranging from jabs to uppercuts to straights).. but I love boxing and if it's not too difficult to control I'd buy it

I also really want Need for Speed (Most Wanted or newer) .. doesn't look like it's out for the 9900 unfortunately

PSP Graphics are alot better. also games on 990 are not as good graphics and harder controls. for gaming the psp is far better.

Posted by: DigitalTeddyBea

.... ITS DESIGNED TO PLAY GAMES!... Holy Crap... PSP vs EnV... that's just dumb... But then again, slightly re-deign the PSP with a numberpad and bluetooth and it would be a bad-*** phone.

Posted by: Toolman12345

That's silly, to compare this to a PSP. Of course games look and play better on that advanced hardware and much larger screen. But you carry your phone everywhere, and this thread is about GIN on THIS phone. When I compared a game to PS1, I was simply giving a frame of reference for the graphics.

Posted by: ian1001

ok... you can only buy so many games which are 8-13$ for vcast games which eventually with 4 games you can buy a psp

Awesome. Please post the link where we can buy a PSP for $52.

env- 150$ 5 games at 10 each -200$

psp-200$ plus you can download free demos

Posted by: markymarkcirca

@Ian and anyone else offering the PSP ideas... please leave HoFo and go on to Playstation forums because your ideas are silly. The 9900 is a phone first, and whatever you want it to be after that is merely second thought. I enjoy gaming on the 9900 as far as 8 or $10 goes, but have chosen not to spend an EXTRA $250 to game on the PSP. We're supposed to be discussing GIN games and applications on the 9900, not alternative mobile devices.... please use more sense before posting

WOW 50% off of an $8-$14 game, you are sooooooo stoked.!.! If you do that a few times, you may be able to afford a data cable, and maybe some "flamer" skin for your phone. I am really happy for YOU that you are saving so much money. I bet we all wish we we could save THAT MUCH Money.

Hey money is money. Hey, if I was a millionaire maybe I wouldnt care but I have to admit I'm not... I'd much rather pay $3 than $6 for a game - its adds up and I'd rather it be in my pocket than Verizon's....

You are fully correct. Where there is no real NEED to be an A**Hole, that's just how I work (hmm,... and here I thought I was being facetious). If HoFo is a place for comments and opinions, why should I keep them to myself? Just wondering.
Jealous? Okay. Hmm,.... Jealous of what? That you save a few bucks here and there. Well, perhaps you are the one that's jealous,... jealous of my lack of intelligence, or my wandering eye, or my leg that's 6 inches longer than the other one, or maybe it's my missing teeth and fingers that YOU are jealous of.
Oh yeah, what am I supposed to Hop Off of? The Wagon? I know enough not to get on one, so there's no problem there.
And, up my what? Please try to be as specific as you can so your loving friends here at HoFo can resolve your ISSUES.

I've seen it posted a couple of times - not much mention has been made about it though. I wouldn't recommend it either - stealing GIN services seems a little over the top. It also wouldn't be hard for Verizon to check who is accessing VZNav without having the service on their account - they could even see how many months you've been using it and charge for it. Maybe they'll never do this, but I personally wouldn't take that risk.

Posted by: ScottB1

Point taken. Thanks for your input Humpa.

If you have the intention on backing up your purchases like games just in case, it is possible. Thats the last I will comment on this.

I wasn't suggesting that no one talk about it - I usually tell people that it is possible on the 9900, and I point them to 4 links that I have book marked that describes the process. I just like to make people aware that there could be consequences.

Posted by: ScottB1

Understood. I am not arguing the point. I actually agree with you. Sorry if I sounded any other way. Sometimes just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Has anyone used BIM Active? It is not available for the 9900, but I am hoping it will be soon. If you haven't heard of it, it is GPS based software to track your cycling/running/etc workouts.

Also, I am assuming it is because of the problem that people were having with massive snowboarding, but I can't find it on my phone. I have the GIN Search application. It finds it, but when I click on "Get It" it says it can't find it. Is it not available anymore for the 9900?

Was it ever available for the 9900? I see that it's available for the 9800 and the Choco.
Try checking after midnight tonight, I was pretty sure VZW updates their GIN catalog Tuesday Nights. Good Luck. Sounds like a really cool App.

Verizon's website says Massive Snowboarding is available for the enV. People near the beginning of the post have said that they downloaded it. But I can't see it anymore under games. I know people were having trouble with it, so I am assuming that they took it off to fix whatever bugs there were in the program for the enV. But it is still listed on the website and in the Get It Now Search program.

Yeah, Massive was the first game I downloaded to my enV. Everytime I tried to play the game, my enV froze (blue screen of down-arrow). I really do think VZW took it off because it was not working on many enV's, perhaps it will show up later.

Anyone know if there going to be putting bejeweled on the enV? I love that game.

Posted by: mousouchop

Does anyone know if Lumines really does use aritime or not? The website says it doesn't, while GIN warns that is does on the Lumines download page...

If it does indeed use airtime, is this just for things like, updating highscores and such? Or is the game connected all the time? And can I take this feature off so it does not use any airtime?

I only ask SOOOOO detailed because I just switched from my own plan to my father's family plan and he is a bit anal about his minutes as well as spending money on things you don't need. I had a hell of a time getting him to allow me to spend MY MONEY on the 9900... now I have to ask him to allow me to get a game and I think I would enjoy Lumines the most. XD

Any answers would be appreciated.

I read this whole thread (all 7 pages) before posting this question and didn't see any mention of Lumine airtime usage is specific.

They seem to be a little slow porting stuff to the enV. Some of the apps and games I had on my 8300 I would love to buy again for my enV but when I search they arent ready yet. You would think that they would want to get them out there as fast as they can so they can make more $$.

I called CS about many of the games for the enV that say they require airtime for use. They assured me that what is on the website are the actual details (airtime required or not?). But you may want to call *611 and ask them before you download the game just so they have a record of your asking, then if any charges appear for the game, you have an "out".
Hope this helps.!

I have Lumines, it doesn't appear to be connected all the time (or any of the time so far, actually). I won't likely be able to tell from my bill because I have Vcast, so any airtime for GiN apps goes under that. But I don't recall seeing the game light up the send/receive indicators.

Most games that use airtime use it only for a) real-time head-to-head multiplayer, b) updating global high score boards, or c) downloading new levels/boards/puzzles that weren't included in the original game (like a crossword puzzle app that downloads a current puzzle). I don't know of any games that pick up the phone just for the heck of it (but, then, I haven't played tons of GiN games). Verizon has to be really careful with warning labels on games to keep people from becoming outraged in the case where something that obviously requires airtime actually (duh) uses airtime (say, playing against someone else over the network).

It'd be nice if they were more specific in their warning labels, instead of just "airtime required to play." Maybe something more like "airtime required if you choose to publish your high score on our all-time high scores table." (Or whatever the case is for a given game.)

Lumines is really addicting, by the way, sorta mesmerizing if you play it with the sound on... excellent choice

I had the same problem with Massive Snowboarding. Just Call CS and tell them the game freezes your phone. They will probably credit you the purchase price.

I'm looking for comments yea or nay on any of the bowling games currently available for the 9900:By way of explanation: I'm not really heavily invested in bowling (haven't bowled in many years), but I'm casting about for something entertaining to play on my 9900, something modeling a real space (rather than a game board), that doesn't take a lot of setup, isn't time-based (so you don't lose big time if you get distracted for a moment)... and I'm remembering that Jamdat Bowling was all the rage a couple years ago (if the most recent incarnation, JAMDAT Bowling 3D) was available for the 9900, I probably would have just bought that, based on past reputation).

I'm looking more for quick-action arcade-mode with reasonably realistic physics (and shiny graphics) rather than a detailed simulation of going on a professional bowling tour. I really don't care about decorating my avatar or picking my team name And I'm looking for something I can hop into for five minutes and have fun, rather than something where you have to spend the first five minutes tweaking settings. Bonus points if the game can remember where you left off so you can put the phone away quickly and pick back up later on.

So, anyone have comments on the available bowling games? Which has the most realistic physics? Which has the most useful control inputs? Which has the most nicest graphics? Do the two VCast games really look any better? Bowling Deluxe gets an excellent rating on Verizon's site (if you can trust those in the first place), but I suspect it's based on a sample size you could count on one hand. Vir2L Studios confusingly lists both a "3D" and a "(2D)" version of Bowling Deluxe, and, more confusingly, lists availabilty of both for the LG 9900 on Verizon.

Thanks for any help you can provide...

I got Scarface. I beat it in like 1 hour. The gameplay is weak, just a 3/4 perspective run-around and shoot game, with a few levels where you are in a car and it's like the really old "driver" game top-down perspective.
All in all, very dissappointed with the game.

What is Puyo Puyo? ..., is there a different name for it? If you can find out the GIN/mobile name of it, you can search VZW Games . If it's not there,

Are there any games that use the full keboard on the envy? I have downloaded Zuma and Lumines and I can not see any way to set up the keypad to be used for games. I have big fingers and would do much better using the keys instead of the d-pad.

Posted by: kones

Enjoyable, although not amazing. It has kept me occupied for the past few weeks, and doesn't use airtime unless you're submitting scores or playing a network match (which I haven't tried). Graphics are pretty good for a cellphone. Sound is okay, I usually turn it off. It picks up where you left off quite easily, even during calls, which every cellphone game should. Controls are okay, feels a little like the ball is moving on predefined paths sometimes. Not bad but perhaps only a subscription for a month and then deletion. I'd give it maybe a 3/5

Posted by: Ashaneen

Okay, I got "BlockBreakerDeluxe" and the game play is great if you like those type of paddle-ball games. My only gripe is that you can play for 1+ hours and pass 30 rounds and the game doesn't save. If you stop playing the game, you need to restart at the first level again, it never saves your progress. Kinda' lame in my opinion, but at least I am getting really good at the first 40 levels.

I got this game today - I think the graphics and gameplay are awesome. But the sound totally sucks - the engine sound just constantly stutters - I think it's more than our phone's processor can handle, running the game and providing sound, so the engine just constantly goes rev..rev..rev..rev..rev..etc. It's better without the irritating, constantly-interupted sound, but one feels something lacking in a race game with no sound. Also, they took the 'requires air time' out of the description on the Get It Now site, but it DOES require air time whenever you, for instance, finish 1st in a race and a track is unlocked. In order to play that track, you must let the game download the track, but that only takes maybe 15-20 seconds? Just sharing info...

He is definitely talking about "Asphalt Urban GT 2 3D"

Toolman12345: I have the same exact issue with my 9900 and the game sound stuttering, it's totaly annoying. It makes the game almost unplayable with the sound on, but at least you can set different volume levels and turn it down to like "1" so you barely hear it. And yeah, what's with the online description not saying "Airtime required .." when clearly it asks you before you download each new track.

Dude, I thought I must have screwed that up! Had to look at my own Posting real close myself. But I said what it was in the Subject line - I was talking about Asphalt Urban.

I just downloaded The Sims 2 Pets, the game is focused on one pet and thats it...it was extremely boring at first, then became fun for a little bit and now its boring again. It's really repetitive and its like nothing left to do in the game after like an hour and a half. Has anyone tried The Sims 2 Connected Edition, or any of the other new games? I hope we get Need For Speed soon.

Posted by: Ashaneen

I finally found a game that uses the "grey" "Q,W,E,2 and S keys for direction. Lost. Well, the game is pretty lame and it is really easy, but at least we know now that some of the games can use the grey keyboard keys for movement/actions.

Hey guys I was wondering, what games are good? I am looking to buy game or two and I was wondering what games are good. I like all types of games, possibly puzzle games? Can you guys please list some games that are worth buying?

Posted by: Jacky10

I just got the Sims 2 Connected Edition...its okay so far I guess. It's not 3D like the pets version.

Posted by: Jacky10

Bejeweled and Collapse are now available, and those are two good games Meltdownblitz.

Don't get Spyro if you are looking for a difficult game.

Does anyone know if there is a way to request games for a specific phone? I know it wouldn't be a sure thing, but I was thinking if there was a place where people could request that a game/app that already exists be adapted for a particular phone, and enough people requested something, Verizon might be more likely to do that.

I am interested in trying Lemmings for one. I love that game. Not sure how it would be on a phone, though. I also am interested in Bones In Motion that is software to make your phone kind of like a Garmin Forerunner.

I don't see it. I used to have it on a Migo. I know with that phone you had to have it set up by verizon. There wasn't any application for the child part to install on the phone. They just had to turn that service on. I don't know if the enV is a phone that can work as a child phone.

Oasis is a pretty good game. I can't seem to get enough of it. The cell version doesn't give you very good instructions on how to play, so I had to look online to see how the computer version is played, but I like it a lot. It's a strategy type game with 4 levels: easy, normal, hard & insane. (I've been working my way up. I'm finally able to play the hard version without getting my but kicked!) Anyways, I'm addicted.

I just bought Blockbreaker Deluxe, a game I had on my v551 with Cingular. The VZ version is gorgeous!

Only problem, though - I can't seem to get it to save my game? :\ I'm tired of starting at the first level every time. How do I get it to save?

I don't think you can get it to save.
I have had that game for a month or so, and No matter how you play (city map vs. Game Start) or how many levels you beat, it seems that you can't save your progress. If you exit out of the game, you need to start all over at the beginning when you start it up again.
One thing I was thinking is that if you beat all 7 levels (the entire game) with out exiting (yes it would take about 3-4 hours) you may be able to select one of the 7 levels on the "city Map" screen as a starting place.

Posted by: nyssa

I tried that. Got all the way to the end (and yes, it took several hours ), and it reset the next time I started. That really sucks, because it was one of my favourite games for my v551.

Also, it irks me that there appears to be no temp memory for games (IE: You shut the phone temporarily, and it doesn't remember that you were playing games). Both of my old Motorolas did it, and they weren't as technically advanced as the 9900, so... :\

Well, I guess that's something having to do with Java vs. Brew. Who knows, but at least there is Temp game memory (or at least it freezes) when you get an incoming call or message.

Anyone like Monopoly Here & Now or Rayman Raving Rabbids. Do you know if the progress saves on these games? Any other games that are really worth buying?

I know that Rayman saves after you complete each level, and you can continue when you re-initialize the game.
I don't know about Monopoly.

Wahoo! BIM Active is finally available for the enV. I just downloaded it today and took my first run with it. It really is cool! If you run or cycle, I really recommend it.

Here is a quick rundown of what it does that I like:
It will track where you run and automatically upload it to their server after the run. Then when you log on, it gives you all the typical stats and shows you a google map with your route plotted on it. You can also add other workouts if you ever do any without the phone so you can keep a complete log online. The website also tracks calories and heart activity for you. It gives you weather information and stores that with your run log so you can see how your performance changes in different weather conditions. Elevation is tracked for you. It does everything. Well worth the $10/month, I think.

Now, if only Lemmings will come out for the enV I will be set!

Just thought I'd share that I just got Monopoly Here & Now. I think its a good game, its just like it says it is. Monopoly, its a good version of monopoly. So if you like monopoly and you want it on your phone, I'd say its worth it.

I downloaded Asphalt 3 the other day, along with Tornado Mania. I noticed both of them feature just music for audio, no sound effects. So I figured, ok. But I just bought Mafia Wars Yakuza and that is just music. Is this a problem do these games not feature sound effects??

Almost all of my games have in-game sound effects:
BIA: earned in blood
Contra
Tetris (ringtones can also be used as in-game music)
Mission Impossible3
Rayman
Scarface
Orcs & Elves
Asphalt Urban GT 2 3D (engine sound is very choppy, usually leave sounds very low or off)
Splinter Cell DA
Block Breaker Deluxe
Lost
Legend of Spyro
The only exception is:
Project Gotham Racing (only in-game music, no sound effects)
BTW, PGR suuuuuuuuuucks!!!!! There is only one view, no nitrous, graphics are weak) Do not get this game!
What I wouldn't give to have NFS Carbon on my 9900, oh well

Posted by: VoOdOoVyPeR

Hmm. Well, if you like Aspahlt Urban GT 2, I'd suggest procuring Asphalt 3, it's a good game with a fairly deep...depth, for a mobile game. It's challenging as well.

If you do purchase it, lemme know if you have sound effects or not.

I checked the reviews(IGN), however, for NFS: Carbon. 7.0/10. NFS: Most wanted got a 9.1/10. I've heard many good things about that game, can't wait til it comes out on the EnV.

I dunno what the difference, but if I were you, I'd wait for EA's rendition, called Tetris: Multiplayer. It's out on Java sets right now, with plans to be released on Brew sets shortly. It got great review, saying it's "the best tetris for mobile yet." (IGN)

Posted by: Meltdownblitz

Sweet man, sounds good. I'll wait then.

I looked at Asphalt 3. One quick question, can you change the view settings? Is there an option for in-car view, as well as behind-the-car view? thanks

Not that I have found. But there are boost graphics

If you decide to purchase it, please let me know if there are sound effects or not. Thanks.

Hmm, it would appear as though Mafia Wars Yakuza was taken off the list... It only just arrived yesterday. I hope there isn't some glitch with it, like there was Massive Snowboarding, which is also removed... Anybody know what happened to Mafia Wars Yakuza?

Also, to the guy asking about Tetris. There is a new game available called Topolon... new for the EnV atleast. It got rated rather good and you can download a demo of it to see for yourself. It may bide your time until the arrival of Tetris: Multiplayer.

Haven't purchased Asphalt 3 yet. Honestly, I'm probably not going to. It looks relatively weak to me. I am pretty sure that there are no sound effects in the game (just music) if you are not hearing them on your enV. If you have the time, just go into a store and d/l it on the demo enV, check for yourself.
Mafia Wars Yakuza is still available for D/L on the enV, You are just not seeing it on your handset because you already downloaded it.
As for Topolon. Tried the 5-minute Demo. Hmm,... Definitely not for me. I think my next game might be Alie
