I just got MegaMan yesterday, its pretty damn fun, I highly recomend it

Posted by: zioneddie

I was wondering if someone could help me out backing up my gin applications. I tried these instructions http://www.northtexasfishing.com/8300.htm
The problem is that when I click open the folder of the application and try to backup the files within I get an error access to this file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider. Is there any way around this? I am using bitpim 1.0.0 and a vx9900 orange. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

As did I. The controls are kinda tricky but I did manage to defeat Quick Man.

Yeah, I was kind of curious about controls. Is there any file to edit to change the controls of the game so that the "grayed out" letters on the keyboard could be used as directional keys instead of the arrows on the far right side of the phone? It seems that they grayed out those letters for this purpose, but I don't know what games have made use of it. All I have is Spidey 3 and Megaman 2 and neither do it.

zioneddie you need another application called LGDOWNLOAD 1.6 which will give you the ability to put your phone into nvedit mode which will then unlock your phone so that bitpim could access it.

Or simply the latest test version of BitPim.

Is there any chance of VZ finding out about this? And if so, whats the worst that could happen?

Sure, why couldn't they simply compare access to subscriptions?

Though I don't see it happening, they could cancel your account (which means you have to pay the ETF).

If they found out the worst is probably cancel your service. Subscription on games is riduiculous anyway. I should pay ~$50 a year just to have Pacman on my phone

Posted by: m2dakang

Lol, yeah.. Can they find out how much you've used or anything? I just graduated HS so I'm lookin for a new phone and this might be it.. I'm glad I'm still under my parent's family plan, even if I do get caught.. Lol

We're merely speculating, so it doesn't much matter what our opinions are. Either do it or don't do it. Usage doesn't really matter anyway - it is $9.99 month for a full subscription whether you use it a lot or a little. But that is not a big deal. Cancelling your account and charging the ETF is what you should be worrying about. Though I find it hard to believe that you would be the first person punished for using this brew hack that people have been abusing for years.

Posted by: m2dakang

Yeah... Plus, whats the likely hood of them figuring it out and puttin a stop to it now? Very slim seein it's been goin on for years, right? Also, how can the prove it?

My favorite game on my XV6600 was and always will be Warfare Inc. Is there a game for the 9900 that is in any way comparable to Warfare Inc. Anybody comment on what they think is the best strategy game for the 9900?

I'm considering switching from the chocolate to the enV but was wondering if the games on the enV are made to fit the wider screen? I'd imagine side scrollers/3D games would but how about games like Tetris or Pac-Man?

Also, do a lot of games us the remapped keys on the keyboard or just the tiny navigation pad & OK button?

I can tell u that PacMan uses the arrow keys now but its hard to get use to cause its on the left. And it does not make use of the wider screen - it has a filler border

My first post to HF's. I've been reading for weeks, and finding all kinds of great information, learning what my vx9900 is capable of, if you're willing to pay the additional costs...

Wireless Sync (WS) looks like a really useful GIN application. At 20/mo it better be. Mobile Email (ME) looks pretty useless by itself. My question is, does WS include the ME application, or is that an additional needed app.?

For clarity, I do NOT have VSync, or a Data line plan. I am using a standard voice plan, shared between 2 phones & unlimited Text.

If i were to subscribe to WS, would ME be necissary? If so, why?

Thanks gurus.

Wireless Sync and Mobile Email are two separate GIN apps. You don't need one to have the other.

I understand that they are separate applications. However, is Mobile Email really necissary if you have wireless sync? Can you not compose and send email with Wireless Sync, or is Mobile Email required? If so, doesn't it seem odd that it would cost $20 a month to sync your phone email box via POP, but not be able to respond to it without paying an additional $5? Is that what it comes down to?
This may just be n00b stuff, that may seem perfectly logical to someone else. If so, kindly explain.

If you have Wireless Sync, you don't need Mobile Email.

This is VZW's description of Wireless Sync. Taken from http://products.vzw.com/fnd_toolsAp...s%2f%2fview+all
Application Description:
With Wireless Sync, have your personal and business email directly delivered to your phone! Your email can be sent and stored on your Verizon Wireless phone so that you can conveniently view, reply or forward your email. Sending and receiving email is both quick and easy using your existing email address. In addition, Wireless Sync wirelessly updates your calendar and contacts right on your phone.

Do you have to open mobile email app to get new emails? Or does it come automatically?

You get an alert that you have a new email, then you go to the app to view the email.

No. Verizon phones use Brew and not Java. Brew games and apps can only be added to your phone ONE way - that's thru Get It Now. There is no hack for this.

God of War: Betrayal and Pillowfight (yes pillowfight) are both pretty fun and use both the d-pad as well as the 2,q,w,e,s keys. The sound on god of war blows, I play with it off, and pillowfight has that streetfighter-esque 2d thing goin, really fun, and gets decently difficult at the end. Also has unlockables to keep you buys a while after you first beat it.

Another thing I want to bring up since I don't remember it being mentioned...One of the great things about subscribing to a game, is that you can download it to another handset without buying it again. If you buy the full version, and change phones, you need to pay full price again. Least this is what CS has informed me, and I havne't noticed additional charges on my bill (i switch between my env and my razr a lot)

Bejeweled O_o.

Awesome game IMO. Has multiplayer so keeps it fun

for the hack are you supposed to download the subscription verision of the games or the unlimited version?

I too was checking into this, on the get it now info screen it says it does, and it also says it does, on the VZW website. but many people have stated that it does not actually use them.
My question was going to be has any one tried the Spanish one, that one does not state that it requires airtime.

I also fully agree with the other poster, about verizon should state what amount of air time will be used. if its only to upload your score if you want no big deal, but if its downloading new scenes every few minutes etc... could potentially be a very big difference.

ANY WAY SO THE VERDICT IS THAT NO AIR TIME IS USED RIGHT????
OTHERWISE I WILL JUST GUESS MY WAY THROUGH THE SPANISH VERSION, CANT BE THAT HARD!

Yeah, I have been using both the regular and Tetris mania for a few months now with absolutely no airtime charges for either Tetris. You don't need to get the spanish one. Just the regular one or Tetris Mania.

I have considered a few times using bitpim to backup my games or applications to get them unlimitedly for the subscription price. However, sometimes when I get a game or app (wikimobile as the example), I purchase the subscription version, but when I later look at the application's properties, it is listed as unlimited. And this is without every backing up the application, so I was very confused as to why this would happen. Is this just a mistake, or would I really have unlimited usage if the properties say this?

Can someone link me to the whole "backup trick" thing for subscription games?

I looked through the thread and couldn't find it. >_>

Read through this thread and see if it helps you. The info pertains to the 9900 too: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1015056

Well, I couldn't find the thread. Not sure if it was deleted.
From what I can remember:
you download a subscription of a game from GIN.
Then you make a backup of the "brew" filesystem with BitPim.
Then you "unsubscribe" from the game.
Reload your backed up "brew" filesystem, reboot phone, and -voila- the game is there.

So I bought Prey Mobile 3D....

Talk about gouging you for your minutes, you have to download EVERY SINGLE LEVEL of the game! And it always drops the connection, forcing you to re-download so it just kills your minutes.

And the game itself... makes me want to kill myself, it's so horribly awful. If they hadn't made the control scheme so incredibly useless, it might have a chance, but using the entire top row for aiming/strafing/firing/changing weapons!? WTF were they thinking?

Also, does anybody know if Doom RPG is any good, I saw a video and it looks pretty fun; does anyone recommend it?

Well, if you aren't happy with the game and you paid full price (not a subscription), you can go into a VZW store and complain to a CS rep. They may be able to credit you the purchase price of the game if you let them delete the game off of your phone.
I haven't played Doom RPG on the 9900, I heard it was a decent game, but if you are unsure, simply try it out on a 9900 display phone in the store, if you like it, download it for yourself onto your device.

The .pdf file at the end of the first post in this thread has that information.

Yeah I got the subscription, backed it up.... I don't think they're gonna give me my money back. :P

You'd be surprised ho far being cordial will get you.
Just be nice, and Show them that you "cant" play the game as it is because it's not "enjoyable" to you, and you want your money back. Most CS reps will accomodate if you start off being nice. After all, it was only a few dollars right?

Posted by: servo086

I said my "friend" thought it would be funny to download all these apps on my phone and that I've already deleted them. The excellent VZW customer care credited my account as soon as the bill was drawn up and she called me to follow up.

Posted by: rotorocker

Has anyone else tried the way that the link Nolegs posted? I was hoping there would be a way to get some free games since very few have demos to try and theyre $9 to buy.

I've got Elves and Orcs II and it's great! (by the makers of Doom) Personally, I think it's well worth the $6 or $7 I paid for unlimited.

Yeah, I really liked the first one on my 9900, and this version (II) is great on the Voyager. Totally worth the full price IMO.

Well I bought Block Breaker Deluxe for this phone. I dont get how it uses airtime. But whatever. It won't ever save for me. Everytime I exit i have to start the whole game over again. I need help on why its not saving

I think that's just how the game works. Blockbreaker is poorly designed (programmed), in that you always start at the beginning. Maybe you have to spend 3 hours beating it before the game will let you save your progress? I'm actually a bit disappointed that I wasted $ on this game. I think Heavy Crush 3D is a better block-breaking game than that one.

Brew games are tied to the handset's ESN,.. They can't be shared between phones.
flash (.swf) games can be added to the phone with a slight hack if you follow that link above.
