I am planing to buy a Sanyo Katana real soon, UNLESS i am CERTAIN that it is NOT possible to actually put a custom made ringtone on it...
So if anyony with a Katana And a USB cable with the correct driver installed, And with bitpim installed want to try this method i used with my old Samsung a680...
1 - Use a web site like freeringers.net to txt msg you a *.qcp file with "nothing" in it (like 1kb max) that you then download to your phone (use a qcp creator, editor or figure out something to create a very tiny, empty qcp file)
2- Go into the "filesystem" in bitpim
3- Find where your download ringtones are stored (With my old samsung it was somethin like ../ams/ringers/cnts** (with ** beign numbers from 01 to ...)
4- Overwrite the file that is the lowest size (the one you just downloaded, that is in *.qcp format (but you can't see that) and very small (less than 1 kb)) with either an mp3, wav or whatever you like (test many file types)
5- Cross your finger
6- Let me know if this works!
I'm not even sure the Katana is yet detected by bitpim, it actually is in the list of phones you can choose but I haven't seen any thread saying som1 was actually able to read or write from/to the phone with BitPim... And I don't suppose the "filesystem" works the same way as the Samsung one did, but I don't know... anyone want to give a try and share with us?
Thanks!
P.S. : This is my first post here, sorry if there's already another thread about this or if I wrote/did something wrong, it is totally unintended! And sorry if I gave false hopes to anyone if this prooves out to actually NOT work... I did NOT test the phone at all and have no idea if this message is relevant or not!

The Katana filesystem is not accessible by BitPim.

Oh well... Might as well look for another phone then... Or stick with my A680, at least it's possible to put mp3 ringtones on it ...
Why is it that phone companies like Sprint and Bell here in Canada stick with qcp files... Nobody actually realized that they sound like s**t? As does midis... I can understand why they would want to block uploading to their phones ($$$$$) but why block a mp3 capable phone of reading any mp3 at all? ... I suppose that me saying this is not that useful... Anyway!
What is it actually possible to do for the Katana via bitpim (or any other software)?
