(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

just upped the firmware to 4.17, seems to hold a signal better and battery life is much better.

sent to iunlock.com on monday, received back on Thurs.

Posted by: ckpatel

can you upgrade ur firmware on ur own? or must u send it out?

Posted by: jxrob

if you have the correct tools you could do it yourself, but flashing a nokia is a little bit different than a moto, i have no complaints about using iunlock and the downtime was only four days

Posted by: jkwireless

I just got the unlocked version recently and it came with fw3.96. Can you list the differences in the 4.17 update?

Thanks!

Posted by: srwal

How do u flash the firmware, and where can i get it?

Posted by: jxrob

the major changes I see in 4.17 vs 3.96 is the signal holds better and the battery life is improved. other than that the menus and volume seem the same

Posted by: ckpatel

how do i check my firmware on my phone?

Posted by: WirelessAndy

Type *#0000#

Posted by: jmkiang

What tools do you need to do this yourself? Can you do it over BT? I have v3.94 RM-33

TIA

Hmm i dont see V4.17 in my file list but i see 4.16 am i missing something? can someone take a screen shot of V4.17 i think they might have a mistake it might be 4.16 that or they got a different flash file support

Posted by: kman1

hey, how come there are two different versions out there? 4.16 and 4.17. what is the legit version?

I doubt it — it's not a BB5 phone, so it most likely doesn't support USB flashing.

Posted by: CoRupT

It does NOT support USB flashing. you need the Rj45 cables to flash nokias.

Nokia support said to get the newest firmware it has to be sent in for service, Total turn around time is about 7 to 10 days.

I asked about the Advanced replacement and was told they are not longer doing that.

Whoa those are some serious turnaround times. Flashing firmware only takes 1 hour max here in Singapore

There used to be service centers that could flash Nokia phones, but it seems that now the only options are third-party services like iunlock.com or Nokia itself, so the turnaround time includes shipping to the only Nokia location that performs the service

Lucky for me I live in a small country .

They do have a separate queue for "premium" handset (i.e. 8800 series, communicators) users so the usual waiting time of over an hour is reduced to 5 minutes max. Great service by Nokia I must say.

To those who have upgraded to 4.17: Do you notice that your idle screen clock is now fixed on the centre of the screen instead of moving about every minute or so?

My screen now has burn ins because of this.

Does anyone have any issues with the phone rebooting when you switch batteries? Everytime I swap out a battery, the phone asks me to set the time and date again..is that normal? I have 4.16..My battery indicator also doesn't seem to deplete.

Does this 8800 or 8801 or Siriccon have IM messeging in there?
If so, what does it have?

Posted by: srizvi1

Would sending in the Nokia 8801 for update to Nokia cost any money to flash to latest Firmware? I have had my 8801 since Fall 2006 and it has

V 03.78
17-10-05
RM-33

I'm planning on ebaying it. Perhaps this is not worth the hassle?

Posted by: drunknmunky408

v4.17 has been out for a while now. my fone has v4.17 19-9-06 is the date

Posted by: mrseed

What is the latest firmware for this phone?
