Best phone as of December '06 for Bell ?

I'm planing on changing my cell phone real soon. I've got a Samsung a680 whose antenna broke and fell off = reception is now the crapiest I have ever had in my 7 years of cell phone use. I loved the phone cause there was a way around through bitpim to actually have mp3 ringtones (by making the phone believe it was a *.qcp) and would want a phone that as similar capabilities... And is good looking and has an awesome reception. Everything else ; I don't care.

I was going for the Katana, for the look (I don't need an mp3 player, I've got my iPod, I just want to be able to have mp3 ringtones, not crappy qcp). But the more I read about it, the more I think it's not such a good move...

Everone as a Razr, and all of my friends who have one actually broke it ; it's pretty fragile.

The samsung all have mp3 players, which boosts the price (and I don't need an mp3 player!)

Help anyone? Suggestions?

get the RAZR and motorola phone tools 4.0...you will be able to do exactly what you want it to do...the RAZR is not fragile...like any piece of $600 electronics, take care of it and don't treat it like a $50 toy...i have had mine since early this year and it works like new, looks like new and is a fanatastic phone...if anything it might be a little more durable than most as it's aluminum, not plastic.

Nokia 6275i and i don't know why people are having problems loading their own ringtones?

Posted by: Tiger21

Thanks dirtyjeffer... I suppose the Razr would be a safe buy since it's been out for quite a long time now (lot of apps to access the phone, price went down a lot, probably better quality than first generation)... The only thing is there isin't much of a "wow!" factor since it's been out for like... 3 or 4 years now! But I suppose it's better to get a great overall phone without the wow factor than a crappy but flashy phone...

rip ; Thanks for the suggestion but I forgot to say that I really want a flip phone, i like the screen to be protected when I just drop the phone in my backpack (well I don't just "drop" it actually ) and I like the idea of opening a phone to answer a call.. Anyway I haven't really got solid arguments, but I want a flip phone and don't really like the look ok nokias :P No offense!

Anyone knows if Bell will have new phones anytime soon? I suppose not until like Febuary something (since it seems like they really got a lot of new phone around for Christmas, I don't suppose any new model will be available soon?)

And rip : if you know of an easy wat to put mp3 ringtones on Bell phones, please share with us! Well at least with me :P Cause I have no problem puting my own qcp and midis on my cell phones, but although mp3s are playable by most bell phones you can't actually put some on it, except via bitpim, as far as I'm concerned... (I mean, the phone can actually play an mp3 if you give one to it, but Bell doesn't give users the oportunity to actually put some on the phone!)

Keep the suggestions comin'!

there are always new phones coming out...if you don't mind waiting another month or two, do it...it's better to get what you really want, than settle for something that you may regret later.

I'm biased, I already use the FUSIC. but that would be my choice. My Sprint version has great RF and the featues are all very user friendly.

bell makes it hard for people to assign mp3s as ringtones because they want you to d/l from their site however, through sheer determination, i've managed to 'trick' my phone so that i could use my mp3s as ringtones. it's not an easy task but once you get the hang of it, it becomes quite simple. i had to convert my mp3 to the video format (.3g2) and then drag it into my media folder in order to be able to assign them as ring tones. not sure what formats other phones use but my samsung uses .3g2 for video. if anyone wants a detailed explaination of how i did this, pls reply to this thread and i'll type it up

razr or the 6275i are probably the best all around phones on bell right now.

some people stand by their samsungs though so the a900 is up there too

haha A900.. Honestly can go to hell right about now... It is such a damn good phone with good potential but the issues this phone has makes me wanna scream, this peice of S***.... My issues so far:

1. Bluetooth, tried a crap load of different headsets... Static... Ringing.. Phone freezing
2. When I write a txt message.. I go to menu to put in a symbol.. I can't SWITCH BACK TO ALPHA!!! I have to save the draft then go back and edit, very annoying
3. I dont know if this is a issue to all phones but when i add someone onto my contacts list... When they call, shouldn't it tell me their name? (My A900 doesn't)
4.T9 is just confusing as heck

GUESS WHAT?? AFTER WAITING FOR SO LONG.. BELL HASN'T RELEASED A FIX... AND WHEN YOU CALL EM THEY SAY IT'S HARDWARE ERROR... I say, my ***.. There are hundreds of people with this issue and no matter how much they send it in, it doesn't get fixed

What I love about the A900:

1. It is slim
2. It has loads of music on it
3. Kicks the Razr's a**in terms of features etc... (But those issues mentioned above really kill it)
4. Gets you attention (OMG Is that a Razr? What is that?? Eeek it's so skinny?? Bright Screen)

Now if Bell had the RAzr V3c... I dont know what would happen but I think the A900 would probably go bye bye. The Razr V3c though isnt CDMA or watever so oh well.

You want a phone, Samsung D900 SLIM OR Sanyo Katana...

Posted by: aarononfire

actually dude the razr v3c is the bell one
and was the first cdma razr

There is no way to add your own ringtone to a Bell 6275i without modifying it in a non-Bell approved way. There's a setting in the setup for the phone (not accessible via the phone menus) that restricts it to only allowing DRM protected files for ringtones.

Anyone who has one that can set ringtones to anything must have some modified unit they got from wherever, but Bell didn't sell it to them...

The only way to get around this is to use Nokia Diego 3.07 or better and a CA-53 cable. As a side note, you can also unlock the J2ME settings so you can run any java based game that you want....

Hey Help,
What Samsung do you have? I recently bought the M500 and I'm trying to find out how I could use my downloaded MP3's as ringtones.
