BlackJack/8525 or BlackBerry Pearl?

Ok, i'm facing an addiction cross-roads.

I want to replace my BlackBerry 8700c (just bored with it). While my phone prior the BlackBerry was a Cingular 8125, I found myself fed up with GoodLink and the instability of the data connection on WM5. Not to mention it was pretty slow on anything that wasn't small and easy.

What I mean by the data instability is that, going underground several times a day (NYC Subway) the data connection would just stop trying to connect after so many failures mid-day, and Good would never notify you of this.. You'd just stop getting e-mails, and not realize the data connection had stopped retrying to connect.

I love the BlackBerry e-mail, because it always works.. But Good took advantage of things like flagging for follow-up, and managed Exchange folders better (not so many steps to move items, or jump folders). I'm ultimately just kinda bored with the simplicity of the 8700 and want to be able to do a bit more.

So, what are your opinions considering my history?

Thanks!

If I had waited three more weeks I would have been in the same situation but I got tired of waiting for the Pearl so I got a Blackjack a few weeks ago.

The Blackjack has been wonderful for me, the size is nice since it is so thin and it is not terribly wide like many others. I also really like full keyboards which the Blackjack has and the Pearl does not. The Pearl is smaller but thicker than the Blackjack. Blackjack has 3G capability which is nice if you are already in a 3G area but it does eat the battery much quicker but they do provide you with two batteries. When you are using the Blackjack on an EDGE network it is much better. The Pearl is only EDGE. Overall I have been VERY happy with my Blackjack. I can add many more applications including mapping software and I like Windows Media 10 and the fact that I can use my Bluetooth stereo headphones with it and it sounds very good.

I can't speak to the Pearl at this point (I will probably buy one some day just to try) but I am very happy with my Blackjack.

I came from the 8125, so I didnt want to go to the 8525 as I wanted a slim phone. I had an unlocked pearl that I was using for a few days and I personally didnt enjoy the keyboard and scroll button, but thats just my opinion. All I can suggest it try out the Pearl before you buy it. Go into a TMobile store and play with it and you will know in a few minutes if you like it. I love the Blackjack as it is one of the best phones I have had in a while.

I am also trying to decide between the 2. I like the smaller size of the Blackjack, but really wonder if having WiFi on the 8525 should be the deciding factor. If I am out of the US, I should be able to use Skype at any WiFi hotspot to keep in touch with family in the US. Any opinions on this?

i just tried the Pearl out and i can say i am not impressed. the track ball is not the best means of controling the curser. the double tap key board is kind of hard to get used to. i like the blackjack just trying to figure out if there is a reg edit that will allow the internet to be "always" connected like on the 8525/8125.

The real question is are you comfortable with SureType on the Pearl or the QWERTY keyboard on the BJ? There are many posters on here who hate SureType and probably just as many on the BB forum who love it. IMHO, if you do a lot of email, QWERTY is best.

I have been using the Pearl for a month or so and the 8525 since its release. I carried an 8700 before and loved it. I tried to leave the Pearl last week and go strictly to the 8525 using BB Connect on it. I am now carrying the Pearl once again as a primary device using the 8525 for Orb only. I would recommend the Pearl over the 8525 and the Blackjack. If you are in a 3G area then I would lean towards the 8525 a little more. Also it depends if you want a one or two handed device.

For me, the positive of the Pearl is PTT...the positives of the BJ is high speed and qwerty...

Which is cheaper by the month? Doesn't a BB require a BB plan?

A BB requires a BB Data plan for data - Internet, email, etc.
