Ok ive been using my Cingular 2125 for a while, love it, but id rather have something that is a flip phone or candy bar. im not really liking the 3125.

so im looking into getting a new phone. some of the sony ericsson ones are catching my eye...but what consufes me are the whole quad bad and gsm thing(came to cingular being a CDMA and iden user)... now what networks dose the phone need to support for me to be able to use certain phones.

im really liking the m600i/w950i but its GSM900/1800/1900 and UMTS.

the phone needs to support both 850/1900 gsm and umts if you want to be able to use it with cingular. the phone would work with just having 1900, but it wouldnt get the best reception as most of cingular's network is 850.

so is if its GSM900/1800/1900 and UMTS can i use it?

Not really ideal. The 1900 band would be used but in most areas Cingular uses 850 a lot as well. The UMTS on those phones is worthless on Cingular. They are for the European Market. You need a phone with 850/1900 which no SE smartphone has except the outdated P910a.

UMTS on Cingular is on the 850 and 1900 bands. for European phones it is 2100.
For the U.S. You need the 850/1900 bands, forget the european phones unless you are going to Europe

ah i see. that what i was thinking before that i needed a phone with 850 and 1900...hard to find a phone that sutes my liking and is compatable

what are you looking for in a phone?

reading this I'm a bit confused as well.

GSM - need 850/1900, anything else is extra.
UMTS - need 1900, and eventually 850 (i don't think Cingular has deployed it yet). 2100 is only for Europe.

Thus far the only phones out that work on Cingular's UMTS network are those that they offer. The Tytn is the 8525.
