I'm interested in getting rid of my Nokia E62 and getting a Treo 680 (within 30 day return policy for cingular )

Anyway, On my Nokia, I have full screen web browsing... meaning that I can scroll left to right to see the entire page including graphics...etc. that I would normally see on my computer. Is this the case with the Treo?

Any problems?

Is there voice dialing support for it?

How's the navigation?

What type of mail delivery service does it use to check yoru email?

Do you have control on how often it checks it automatically or do I have to download it myself manually?

If it does support automatic downloading of emails... what is the shortest duration of time for this process?

As you can tell I've never owned a palm based phone. I do apologize if these questions have been asked and answered. I just need quick answers to make or break my decision.

The best part is that it IS MAC compatible!!!

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Well you could ask a Palm Treo 650 owner these questions also. In the included Palm OS web browser, Blazer, there is a both full and optimized mode. What you are talking about is full mode, yes.

Voice Dialing? On the Palm Treo 650 there is none. Except there are several external programs that will get that job done for you. Thats the beauty of the Palm OS.

If navigation you mean of the Palm OS, it is the best in the world. I us-to have a Symbian series 60 OS N-Gage, and moving to the Palm OS was a sinch.

E-Mail is handled by VersaMail. You can set it to sync on a specific time or just when you select "get." Of course, Palm OS to the resque. What you are talking about is called Push-email. Several programs, Chatter, can do this for you.

MAC SYNCING??? YES! A very awesome program called Ths Missing Sync will sync every category in iCal, Address Book contacts, iTunes playlists, iPhoto sections, Documents To Go, etc.

One reason i have stuck with the Palm OS is the amazing syncing with Mac OS X. I use a Mac and a Treo 650 (GSM). Hope that helps. Message me if you have any more specific questions.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up picking up a 680 before reading your reply

Anyway, I've just purchased TMS (the missing sync), I don't know where to get the latest version free thats why and I cannot transfer images into my phone so that I can use it as wallpaper...etc. I'm also unsure as to how to transfer music/midi files for ringtones...etc.

I'm such a TreoN00b. For me since I've never used a Palm before this is very hard for me to use since I'm used to closing applictions...etc. rather than just pushing home. Also how the hell do I turn this off? I push and hold it then the phone reboots and it says phone off in the upper left hand corner of the screen...

infek,

If you have an SD/MMC card, you can use a card reader to copy the files onto the card and then read them into the device.

What do you think of the 680 now that you've had it a bit? Happy? Mad?

I don't have an SD/MMC card yet. I'm waiting for it to come in the mail

So far since this is my first palm device It's pretty good. I'm not used to the navigation of the device and I'm just getting adjusted to the power/cancel button being for locking the keypad and turning off the screen.

The one thing that I really don't like that I miss with my Nokia E62 (that I decided to trade into get this phone) is the ability to voice dial via bluetooth headset and the ability to transfer files via drag and drop to my MacBook Pro. Apparently you cannot voice dial through your wireless bluetooth headset. I'm trying out palms voice dialing application now and have 14 days to try it out. I'm able to voice dial numbers and names that are stored in my address book but just not through my bluetooth headset. Once the number is dialing then I hear it through the headset. If i were to use a wired headset then I would be able to push and hold the button on the headset and be able to voice dial no problem (again after installing the application).

other that it's pretty good. I think the speaker phone could be a little louder though. but I'm learning and seems to be ok for what I'm using it for. If you're asking if I regret getting it... it's to early to say
