A707 SYNC Screen Problem

I've had my SYNC for a little over two weeks. All of sudden, this morning, my screen is all messed-up. It's hard to describe. When the calmshell is open and there is no image (no light on), there is a square area right in the middle of the screen that looks like a burnt out area of the screen. It's not like burnt out pixels, but something else. The screen still shows images in that area, but when I look at it from the side, I can see the distortion on the screen. I guess I'm just going to return the phone. Is this going to be pretty easy to do? Or am I going to get hassled over this. I bought the phone through premier on-line. I've had nothing but problems from Cingular customer service since I bought the phone. I went through three different CS reps over the lack of the USB cable and I could never get them to give me a measly $19 credit for the cable (not a deal breaker, but still lame considering that I am switching over from another carrier). I was going to port my number over from Sprint to Cingular and twice was told it would take 24 - 48 hours and to just call 611 or go into a store. When I finally called to port it over yesterday, the CS rep--I don't think she knew how to do it--said I had to call Sprint and have them initiate the port. I like this phone and am happy with it, but this problem with the screen is really weird. I didn't drop the phone and have been keeping it wrapped in plastic since I've had it (and only take it out of the plastic to use it). I'm cool with getting a replacement. I just hope they don't turn out to be a nightmare to deal with regarding a return.

Well, I took a picture so I could show you guys, but the server at the school is down tonight and I cannot upload it. The screen works fine still. You only see the distortion if the screen is black or white. However, I am concerned that this is what people call bleeding. Would the screen still work if it was bleeding, or would it just be dead? Am I gonna be able to return this phone or not? Man, this bites. I have been very careful with the phone. I wonder if the screen is just really fragile? I called Cingular today and they said I had to call Premier and talk to them tomorrow (Monday). I am still within my 30 days. What if they won't let me return it? Can I still cancel my contract with them? Man, this sucks. I really like this phone. I guess I can just use it with the defective screen, but that really, really bites.

If the phone is under 30 days, Cingular will let you get another, they will ship you out one, then send you some paper work to send back the broken phone.

I had a defective phone sometime back (within the 30 days), called CS, had my new phone the next day and the return paper work came about a week later.

good luck

Well, I just called CS and they said they were sending me another phone out right away (they said 2-3 days). They didn't even ask me what was wrong with it. I had to pay 25.00 tax for the new phone. I hope that's the end of it and they don't give me any more hassle about the screen. I think this screen is just incredibly fragile and you have to be careful. Seems like a bad design when they have an outside media player that you press (it's the only thing I can think of that would have damaged the screen). Okay, gotta run to class.
