Pearl Backlight

Just curious why the backlight on the screen is brighter when there is more light available and is dimmed when you are in low light. Shouldn't this be opposite?

You want more backlight in brighter ambient lighting situations in order to overcome the ambient lighting. Example is in the sun, you need much brighter backlighting to see while in the dark you only need a little backlighting to see.
