are there any differences between the sony ones and the sandisk ones?

also....i read about m2....what exactly is m2? is it just the regular pro duo cards or are they a special type of cards?

thanks so much

M2 is for newer phones that take it, it is really small, and it's been told it can hold up to 32GB

There are differences in terms of speed really, depends where you get it, avoid getting cards on eBay as they're mostly, or all fake.

another question

if i buy a brand new memory card.....do i need to format it before i can use it on my 810? like with all those different folders and stuff, if so, how would i do that...or can i just stick it in and use it?

thanks for your quick replies guys!

If its Brand New No Need to Format. Just Stick in and ready to use

I've definitely noticed a difference between memory cards.

I purchased a Sony 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo High Speed not too long ago and when I put it in my phone, the battery was drained within a couple of days (with minimal usage). I figured it had something to do with the fact that I opted for the high speed card instead of the regular. I was using an older firmware as well, so that could have factored into it.

Most recently I purchased the blue SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and upgraded to the latest firmware (I was told that the latest firmware fixes some issues with battery drainage). I am happy to report that with mininal usage my phone has only used about 15% of the battery within the last 24 hours (which means I probably will be getting about 6 or 7 days per charge). I also believe SanDisk memory sticks are (on average) cheaper than the Sony ones.

There's my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

I don't believe so. I would assume that different devices have different folder structures. I think what happens when you insert a brand new stick into your phone is it creates the folder structure automatically (at least that seems to be the case w/ the 4GB stick I just purchased).

P.S. - I got my 4GB stick for about $80 after rebate at Buy.com using Google Checkout.

M2 at this point is not that great. A 1 gig card costs 50 bucks. And yea, right now, the biggest size you can find is maybe 2 gigs but 1 gig is more likely. Both Memory Stick PRO DUO and M2 theoretically top out at 32 gigs. M2 is smaller, that is its only real advantage. Your W810i only supports PRO DUO so stick to PRO DUO sticks. Sandisk's sticks are supposedly faster and cheaper than Sony's but Sony has the storage advantage. They are the only company to have come out with an 8 gig Memory Stick Pro Duo as far as I know. But for sizes less than 8 gig, Id go with a Sandisk Memory Stick. It's probably better than a Sony version.
