Just curious to see if anyone has heard any rumors, since Nokia seems to be lagging.

Lagging is right. I really hope the N75 comes out this week or next...or else I'm forgeting the N75.

Nothing on a Sony Ericsson 3G phone. Cingular and SE are at odds because Sony Ericsson didn't bring any 3G phones to the table and Cingular would not approve any phones that were not 3G. So don't expect any SE phone's for awhile.

...that's unfortunate, because an American version of the W950i would have been my dream phone.

Yeah, SE isn't like Samsung who pumps out 8 new phones a week. SE is much slower in planning and is much more strategic in a way.

Actually Samsung is losing money by producing so many phones. But that's beside the point. SE is slow in the North American market and is slow at pumping out phones, though most of are higher quality than Samsungs. Thats why you'll be waiting a while to see a US 3G SE. They're not the fastest data inovators either.

Actually Samsung has operated at a healthy profit in their cellular division for years. They have slipped a little in the recent year, but are still very profitable:

"Samsung has chalked up a double-digit operating profit rate in cell phones over the past few years but the rate dipped to below 10 percent twice over the past four quarters _ 8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2005 and 9.6 percent in the second quarter of 2006."

I think Sony is getting the point as an organization that they just can't do anything right. The PS3 launch is a disaster, the PSP is a failing platform, they stunk up the battery market with their recalls... I could go on and on. If the company wasn't so arrogant they would have gone through a major shake-up years ago.

I hope SE release a 3G phone for Cingular sometime in 2007.

my understanding from SE side is that they are having chipset issues and wont have any 3g phones out to the us market tell close to the end of second quarter.

I wish somebody would step up and release a feature-packed 3g phone. (Hopefully the N75 makes it out, but I still have my doubts) Right now it is like a contest between LG and Samsung as to who can release the most 3G phones. A high quality Sony Ericsson would certainly be a welcomed addition to the US market. Its ashame the US remains the red-headed step child to the cellular world.

A 5MP successor to the K800 with 850/1900 3G would be awesome.
