I'm not positive on this but I remember reading somewhere that the K800i is 900 band and won't work on Cingular. I wanted the K790 which i've heard works here in the Bay area, my question is can I get a K800i working? My local chinese cell phone place doesn't have the K790 but has the K800 for Cingular... I assume it will work then. Inputs would be appreciated. Thanks

it will work if it has either 850/1900 band. Both would get you better service.

k800 only has 900/1800/1900 (and synchronous(?) UMTS 1900/2100). generally speaking, it will work, but you will lose out on any service on the 850 band.

basically if you're gonna use the k800, might as well switch to tmobile since they have cheaper rate plans anyways.

What features would I be missing? The K800 has 3g while the K790 does not, I know video call probably wouldn't work but I can't find a place that will sell me a K790 with contract (for discount rates)

you will be missing the 850 band and EDGE. the K790a has 850 and EDGE. K790i has 900 and EDGE. K800i has 900, GPRS and UMTS 1900/2100.

the 3G capabilities of the K800i are not compatible at all with cingular. it uses both 1900 and 2100 mhz UMTS at the same time, it cant just use 1900 alone. Cingular has 850 and 1900 mhz UMTS.

Thanks for your help all. However, you really bummed me out VTEC =( I was hoping the K800 would work out for me but it looks like i'll have to keep searching for a K790a. Any chance you know where I can get one with contract? thanks again.

search craigslist. i see a couple listings offering it with contract.

or pick up a chinese newspaper (like sing tao or world journal) and flip through all the cell phone ads and try to find one with a k790a.

I have a k800i and I love it.. I'm from the East Bay area.. trivalley to be exact.
