Does anyone know how to silence or not have that Cingular 3G video appear when you power up/down the Blackjack? It's SO loud!

If you find the startup and shutdwon screens on the Blackjack to be annoying, you can get rid of them with a registry change as folows:

HKey_Local_Machine>system>
-under system there are two entries: Shutdown and Startup
-under each one you will find an entry named 1
-under 1 there is a value name of Dll
-the default value for both entries is OemAnimationDll.dll
-change the default value data of each of those files (startup and shutdown) to this:
*none* (include the astericks...this helps the OS distinguish that it is not a specific file)
-after changeing the value to *none*, back out to the main menu - wait a couple seconds and shut down and then restart, and you will find the annoying shutdown and startup screens and audio are gone.

When you shut down, hold the on/off button down for the normal 2-3 three seconds and release. At that point when you normally would have seen the shutdown screen and audio, it appears that nothing is happening, but just be patient and wait the few seconds a shutdown normally takes and the screen will go blank as the unit powers off.

On startup, you will immediately see the standard blue Windows Mobile Screen which will be there until the home screen comes up and loads. Just remember that it still takes the normal time to shutdown and startup. I guess all the startup and shutdwon OEM .dll files did was run in the foreground while the normal o/s functions ran in the background.

How do I get to the registry to change it? Through File Explorer on my PC?

No, you'll need a registry editor like Resco. I have been using a desktop registry editor for mobiles called Mobile Registry Editor . Been doing the job for me for over a year. Make sure your phone is application unlocked first though.

Hey,

This isn't working for me. I put in *none* in the value using Resco's Registry Editor for the following value in the path you described:
Name: DLL
String: *none*

... but it's not working.

I could have sworn I did it too but it still boots up. The shutting down one went away though. I'll have to double check.

Another way is to leave the BJ in Meeting or Silent profile when you shut down and restart the phone. No sounds coming out then!

Posted by: TheChrigel

does not let me safe it. It goes away when I type *none* and press done the warning shows up and I press Yes but the old dll is still there.

WHY?

Posted by: sortaconfused

If it's not letting you save a registry change, your phone may not be application unlocked. Do a search of these forums to find out how to unlock the phone for apps.

If the shutdown sound went away but not the startup sound, you didn't change BOTH the registry settings. There are TWO dll values that need to be changed: shutdown AND startup.

HTH.

Posted by: nate_dawg

I've since found out that my registry value wasn't being saved (like chrigel). I'll unlock and try again.

Posted by: nate_dawg

finally worked.

ahhhh... piece and quiet.

Posted by: TheChrigel

here too. I got it. You guys are the best.

How about the Camera sound? Which one is that?

Posted by: juiceppc

anyone try replacing it with something.gif or .jpg? I'll give it a whirl.

Posted by: jomo25

I appunlocked my BJ and it still wouldn't let me change it. For those that had the problem and resolved, did you re-app unlock it?

Posted by: luv2hum

how do you app unlock the bj?

By the way, for those uncomfortable with editing their registry, if you just change the profile to silent, there's no startup/shutdown noise emitted from the phone. You can toggle in and out of silent quickly by pressing and holding the "#" key.

major bump...came across this thread while doing a search. Anyone know how to put the BJ in Silent mode WITHOUT vibrate?? that damn thing is sooo loud when it vibrates....I just want everything to be quiet...with no vibrating, NOTHING....aside from turning it off any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Just edit your "Silent" profile so the Ring Type is set to Silent, then you can use the # key to switch to that profile quickly.

sorry for being a n00b, but how do I edit my silent profile? Thank you!!

Posted by: john1027

Start menu>settings>profiles>highlight the profile you want (in this case silent)>click the menu button (bottom right)>chose edit>brings you to a screen where you can choose various options

Bump, for being helpfull!

Posted by: Kadin

Yeah a simple and easy way to eliminate the screeching gawdawful sound when you startup and shutdown your BJ is to simply edit your common or current Profile. If you just scroll down to System Sound Volume and turn it OFF, that will disable them from going off. Animation still goes but I'm sure the sound is what 99% of us want to eliminate...

Most of what I found on blogs seemed overly complicated. It took a bit of trial and error but I Found the "magic button": under Start menu menu go to Settings, Profiles, select a profile, clicke Menu, select Edit, go to the last category System Sound Volume and select Off. This turns off both the startup and shutdown sounds. Enjoy the silence.
