Linux on HTC Mobiles

dear howard forum users,

my name is luke kenneth casson leighton (lkcl) and this is my first post
(hooray) on howardforums.

in case you didn't already know, i wanted to make people aware that, on
wiki.xda-developers.com, we are getting linux to run on the decent
HTC smartphones (all but the OMAP-based ones like the orange-badged
SPV C500) and there are other groups who are focussing on the OMAP ones.

i have a himalaya, blueangel, universal, sable (ipaq hw6915), hermes,
typhoon (orange spv c500), wizard and i'm looking to swap my brother's
magician for any decent phone that's pink, sparkly and not motorola
(it's for his girlfriend, ok?)

i'm not looking to work on the wizard or the typhoon, immediately,
because of the OMAP processors. porting to the pxa27x-based phones
is now _really_ quick, because there are so many of them: it took six
weeks to do 95% of the sable port. the hermes, with the samsung s3c2442
processor, is going to take a bit of time - a few months, and i am looking
forward to it, already.

the status of linux on each machine can be tracked via the wiki pages e.g:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...e=SableProgress and
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...iversalProgress.

why we are doing this? well - here's an article i wrote last year which covers most things:
http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT7937511405.html

but mostly, it's because we can, and because wince is so desperately bad.

anyway. if you're interested, and you're techie-minded, and want to help
out, come and talk to us on irc.freenode.net, on #htc-linux.

l.
