- Battery meter now present in File Transfer mode
- Improved contrast in the progress bar of the Media player (white rather than grey background to the progress bar)
- The softkey text in the browser is now outlined rather than in relief, making the text easier to read on a white background.
- The Blog background colour has been changed from yellow to transparent to improve contrast.
- The Video player menu now loads the whole list of videos before it opens (as opposed to displaying instantly and then updating as the videos were loaded).
- Deleting an Artist in Media Player no longer causes it to get stuck in Yes/No selections.
- The screen refresh rate when using the camera is improved.
- Improved language customisation for some far east languages.
- Updated EROM. This is primarily to prevent Power On problems.

Bug fixes
- Significant A2DP fixes (e.g. HBH-DS970) - ID tags now present on the handsfree screen, stability fixes, pressing Pause no longer leaves play icon displayed, audio better synced with video, graphic equalizer and phone volume keys now affect headset, audio automatically transferred to headset when playing music.
- WMA tracks are now listed correctly by artists and title
- Green line on screen during video recording.

- Some phones experience occasional menu title corruption.
- On some phones, selecting More / Information on the Applications and Games folders returns 0KB used and 0 files.
- On some phones, selecting More / Delete from list on a task reminder in the New Events list fails to delete the event.
- If you have automatic phone lock enabled the phone will display an 'enter phone lock pin' prompt on booting. If you have not changed the SIM this will cancel itself without prompting and the phone will continue to boot

Functionality changes
- Jangler and Alien Noise MP3s do not play on this firmware due to incorrect encoding. These files did play under previous firmwares.
- If a phone lock code is present a "You dont need to place any codes into the phone if you havnt swapped sim cards over" message after you enter a PIN. This is a phone self check.

Bugs
User Interface

- Occasional screen corruption, most notably a line on the screen during video recording, but also slight corruption when navigating through menus.

- The Call Log can sometimes stop working. Deleting the entries in the call log has been known to restore it's functionality.

- The text searching feature in the File Manager does not work. This menu should really use 1-9 to select a specific menu item rather than doing a rather pointless text search on the 9 menu items.
- Many 'Press Ok' dialog boxes throughout the phone are displayed for such a short period of time that their inclusion leads to the user selecting an unwanted menu option rather than selecting Ok. Such dialogs should be removed.
- Selecting 'Settings / Calls / Manage Calls / Accept Calls / Only from list' only blocks those calls whose number is present in the phonebook. All unknown numbers are automatically accepted.
- The total call time in the Service Menu / Service Tests / Total Call Time does not match the time in Settings / Calls / Time & cost / Call timers.
- Previewing MMSes with Video often fails to play the audio.
- Changing between full-screen and Landscape while watching a paused video resets the timer to 00:00 until the video is unpaused.
- The RSS icon always appears after rebooting the phone until the user enters the Messaging / RSS Reader menu.

Intermittant / Non-working functionality

- Rapidly entering text into the phone (via T9 or multitap) can result in lost characters / unread keypresses.
- Cannot send emails to some SMTP servers which don't require validation (it appears that the email client tries to send blank login records to the server)
- Alarms occasionally fail to go off
- Key sounds, if enabled, can fail after a period of time (possibly after an alarm has gone off)
- Occasional temporary freezes during phone usage.
- Intermittant radio background noise (unrelated to the radio station) can occur. This can be fixed by turning the radio off and then on again.
- Occasional loss of shortcuts on phone restart.
- Very occasional crashes ('White Screen Of Death')
- Occasional crash when listening to the radio / using Media Player when receiving an incomming call.
- Very occasional file corruption (loss of access to the Games and Application folders).

firmware is the software that is running on your phone. its like windows xp on your pc. what it does is it fixes the bugs and the problems it had in the previous firmware. and i believe it will work for macs too.

yeah thanks.. i also got problems with my memory stick(or is it my memory stick), sometimes the phone could not read it..sometimes when browsing the pics it would show some distorted images ,so with the videos.. could it be part of that new bug? thanks...

my phone goes SUPER laggy when in the camera album as it is loading. if my box just go over a vid, it will start loading and start lagging me up...(it sucks)

Awesome, have been waiting for an official update to see if I can update via seus, rather than being forced to update with Wotan ( debranded ) Well I can confirm I am now able to update easily with Seus and its officially branded, and works fine on my K800i!

No problems flashing at all and everything worked well. I particularly like the video preview, pretty cool!

My Firmware version is R1CF001 on my k8001 this seems to be out of date, when I go to Sony site update, and try to download the latest firware it says "You already have the latest firmware", its obvious I haven't as I can tell with some of the latested tweeks..

Any Advise or help?

The software allows you to update the software even if you have latest. Have you tried to do that. Sometimes it says you have latest when you don't. I haven't exprienced it my self but read about it.

I'm talking about the Sony Ericsson Update Service program you download and install on your PC and then use it to update your cell phone's firmware. I had debranded my K790a to an older firmware than R1EG001 using wotan server and then used sony ericsson update software to update it to R1EG001 and then now to the latest but now my phone keeps reseting if the bluetooth ear piece is on. There seems to be a glitch in the new firmware. By the way R1CF001 is very old firmware for that phone, the current firmware for that phone is R1GB001.

Thanks! I'm downloading the updater now. Next question... What's the difference in doing this vs getting stuff from wotan or davinci? Is the net effect still the same?
Seems like this ought to de-brand my phone, right? I asusme I'd loose my contacts and any downloaded content, correct?

I got my phone two days ago. Today I tried the service update from the SE web site. It says my phone is up to date. But when I check for the version on my phone it is not there. There is not option under Setting>General to check for service updates. I followed instructions. Any idea what went wrong?

SEUS doesnt have it yet. usually is wotanserver that has it several weeks before SEUS does. so dont need to try it on there yet.

why do i get this message when i open my SEUS.. "failed checking application versions, please reinstall the application and make sure you have the latest version".. any one could help me? also when opening my SE PC suite. i also have this message "unable to load configuration.. what could be the possible cause of this and how do i solve it.. thanks in advance guys..

I am getting the same error from the updater software, although my PC suite is working correctly.

I suspect it's something to do with some Motorola Razr update/unlock software that I installed a year or so ago. The phone has long since departed (phew!) but I can't uninstall the software because of a corrupt file or something.

The SEUS software works fine on my laptop though... both machines running XP home SP2.

I would like to know if there is a solution to this too...

just updated to R1GB001 through SEUS (via cable; OTA kept saying i had the latest firmware) and now streaming videos no longer works

edit: it seems streaming videos from tinytube isn't working; it freezes up after the "connected to media server" dialog and i have to remove the battery and restart the phone. (zoovision streams seem to work fine)

also, editing a video in the VideoDJ from the file manager no longer works. i have to go to main menu>entertainment>VideoDJ and then load the video.

jesus, what a huge mistake updating.... all this for some lousy animated menu icons and video previews that crash the phone >_<

i updated my w810i today with SEUS and the only changes were that i cannot longer edit videos from file manager, and in video menu in file manager i have the same view modes as at pictures (thumbnails, 3x3, 2x2, list)... Shutter sound in silent mode is still there...

Do you guys have silent mode when taking camera pictures? I have the R1GB fw but its a HONG_KONG version... And I can change its shutter sound but doesnt stay silent when its on silent mode.

I heard about this same problem with K750's EMEA and HONG_KONG version...

Those on asia pacific firmware will not able to silent the camera sound.. so sorry... not sure why but SE make it this way.. most probably they think Asian have more peeping tom. !!

localbus: i have the AMERICA_1 R1G001 fw version. when i check SEUS, it says i have the latest version.

i, too, am impatiently waiting for the next FW release. i'm too scared to use Wotan (ive had bad experiences with this sort of stuff) and want to do it through SEUS.

i hope they increase the earpiece volume. that's my only real problem with this phone.

Hey Guys, I just bought a factory unlocked K790a from sonystyles.ca and my firmware screen says:

from reading it seems like the R1GB001 is the newest firmware version. The firmware is fine but I just want to know 2 things:

a) If I wanted to for some reason flash the firmware to an older or different one, how would I go about do that? I have a data cable.
b) This firmware has camera sound even when the phone is in silent mode. What is the best firmware out right now that I could flash to to get rid of this withut introducing other problems? Its no big deal but just wondering. I dont want to brick it, but if its easy, I'll do it.

Also, sometimes I am scrolling through the menu, and my phone will all of a sudden jump to the screensaver clock(screen goes darker and the little clock appears). Anyone else having this weird problem? I just click again and it will come back alive but to the main screen. Kind of an annoyance if it starts to happen alot.

New Update is available for the K790a via the Sony Upgrade Application.
I ran it last night and it downloaded and installed R1JG001 onto my phone.

It wouldn't work over-the-air, however.

Newie here so be gentle.
I have a W300i with firmware version R9A036. I want the phone to work
with the built in Handsfree link in my car but I am having some issues with it.
When I called the HandsFree support for Acura they told me I needed firmware
version R4EA031 for it to work properly.

I have tried the Sony update service but it says my software is up to date.
Where can I obtain the R4EA031 firmware?

When I called the HandsFree support for Acura they told me I needed firmware
version R4EA031 for it to work properly.

I have tried the Sony update service but it says my software is up to date.
Where can I obtain the R4EA031 firmware?

Did a search of the forums and downloaded firmware from Wotanserver!!

If you go to Wotans web site, you can download a pdf file which gives you step by step instructions. This was the first time I had ever done this and it was

I got the new R1J firmware off SUES via USB to my S.E. K790a and it's everything I could have ever hoped for! The volume of the phone during a call is EXCELLENT now and is superb and it even seems to be a little more fluid in opening menus and such. Apparently there's another release out there that'll come along too, but I'm happy with this just fine. Thank god they released this firmware update though. It would've been unbearable to put up with that ridiculously low in-call volume of the last firmware (R1G)!!

yes.. and the volume is louder when playing music! its great! and did they change the preset equalizer? seens that the bass setting is better than "G" firmware..

i just updated my phone to R1JG001 APAC thru SEUS and i have a problem with the backlight

it's reset itself to zero brightness and the keypad doesn't light up. so i go to the settings to change brightness and i change it back to 100% and it goes back to normal... until the phone keypad locks itself, where it goes back to lowest setting & keypad doesn't light up!!!

had anyone else experieced this?

My k 790i has the R1GB001 version firmware. is the R1JG001 version suitable for it? seems this is the latest firmware available for K 790 a model.
what is the difference between k 790 i & a models?
what are the improvements in R1JG001 version? is it worth while to upgrade to this version?

My K800i is running R1JG001, and I've had no problems in the 1 month I've had the phone

Then again, when I got the phone, it already had R1JG001. All I did was flash it with the Taiwan version, so I'm not sure what bugs it might've fixed from older firmware versions

I have updated now to R1KG001 from R1GB001.

The changes i find are:

1. There is an increase in the volume like many have reported already.
2. The autofocus system of the camera is able to lock on to the target much more quickly and accurately.

would like to know others' experience in this regard.

hey i was able to update to R1KG001 on SEUS today. i have APAC phone. been checking for awhile now and it finally showed up.

i did find an issue. i wanted to see if anyone else noticed it.

when i accidently click on the internet globe button, it now brings up the internet browser. it no longer requires holding it down for couple of seconds. back in R1ED001, it was fixed.

seems to me R1ED001 reverted back to the issue of instant internet access by accidently clicking or even nudging the internet globe button.

anyone else have this? was this on purpose? i don't like it one bit. is there a way to revert back to previous firmware without using wotan or davinci?

ok. after reading the last few posts i feel good. my k810 had R1kG001 as the default firmware. woohoo

and yes, one push of the internet button and it runs it. but i havent had any issues with pushing buttons on accident.

Hi

Just bought the Sony 800i.
It shows great pictures via the camera, or if I am in picture editing mode. As soon as I save a picture it goes back to displaying it in thumbnail quality (poor). I uploaded pictures to the phone and tried saving them as wallpaper, but they were again displayed as thumbnail quality wallpaper.

Please god I can get decent picture resolution for my own pictures as wallpaper. I had successfully uploaded digital camera pictures and used them as wallpaper on my previous Sony phone (V600i or something like that).

I could not find anywhere in that controls that I could get the new phone to display the wallpaper at 3mp resolution.

Would firmware update solve this? Will Vodafone disown me if I use a firmware upload and run into other problems with the phone afterwards?

@dublin - I'm not sure I follow you here.
If I upload one of my k810's pictures (taken at 2mp !) to the pc I can get
wonderful wallpapers on the pc. If I set the same picture to be the phones'
wallpaper I get similar (but much smaller) version and resolution.
I seem to remember my old k800 being the same.
I can't believe that voda branding would do this, but you never know. Yes if you
unbrand it voda wont want to know if anything goes wrong later on !

i updated my sony ericsson k790a with SEUS and it work a little sluggish for about three days, i drained the battery, allowed the phone to go dead, waited for a whole day before recharging it, it worked like a charm, super fast saving of 3.2 mp pictures, faster navigation, no more web crashes etc. then when is decided to change sim cards (as we have two networks in trinidad and i have one phone, HAD one phone) the phone never came back on, battery was reading good at last boot up, everything was superfine but it never came back on except that a red light blinked when i touch the keys or insert the charger, wat could be wrong?

Hey guys. I am a noob. I have a k790a with
R1GB001 firmware and i JUST tried to use the seus updater and see if there is a new firmware. I really don't have any idea what I am expecting to happen. I take out battery and put it back in.. HOLD C, then plug in the USB cable. Nothing happens.. I continue hold C for maybe 2 minutes and then all of a sudden, the phone connects, says file is transfering then screen turns on tell you not to disconnect, etc etc. Is that it? The program didn't say if it updated or if it did anything at all. I check and the firmware version is still R1GB001. I want the new R1J's that everyone has been boasting to be so awesome. Is this firmware an okay fit for the k790A, or is it an exclusive firmware for the 790i? Please and thank you. If it is possible through wotan or whatever, someone care to fill me in on the best firware for k790a is? All I really want is a louder earpiece. Camera flash noise is no big deal to me.

The current software version is R1KG001. I have updated my k790i thro' SEUS successfully. This version does increase the volume. I believe there is a welcome improvement with the camera function also.

firmware is the software that is running on your phone. its like windows xp on your pc. what it does is it fixes the bugs and the problems it had in the previous firmware. and i believe it will work for macs too.

I'm having an issue with my music. When I play my music it gets distorted when I move my phone. Do I need to upgrade my firmware or is a wire loose. It doesn't distort when I'm talking or listening to voice mail. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm having the operation failed problem on my k800i and the white screen of death and alot of stuff have been deleted from my phone the phones apps and the games (on the phone memory) now its says the phone memory is 73MB before this problem it would be 68

You have the latest for your carrier.
Run SEUS and do "Update anyway"
If it change, good. If not, and you want to change, do Wotan or by yourself with SETool lite.

Why does Wotan have the latest firmware for SE k790a but the actual manufacturer does not? Does using Wotan void my warranty? I updated using SEUS but still have R1JG001.

SEUS would only put me up at r1jg001 (hello java update and GOOGLE MAPS WITH LOCATION!), but i flashed to R6BC002 with no problems using other stuff (setool 2 lt)...

I just went to R6BC002 (looks to be the latest) because of patches. No noticeable difference other than no more animated video thumbnails.

My K790a is still running R1JG and I see the latest out it R8BF and that is available for America 1 on WotanServer. Now connecting my phone to SEUS it still says I have the latest FW. Anyhow I need the latest JAVA version so that Yahoo 2 Go will work. Any ideas? I really don't like the idea of using Wotanserver or X++ but who knows that might be the best route.

just flash the firmware file not the file system. use R6BC002 main

use setool2lt or XS++

your gonna have to do it. your phone has the latest FW for this region. the r6 and up is for a different region. Im not sure why they didnt release it here.

R6 is the best. no benefit for using anything past that.
