Samsung SGH-i600

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Thread dedicated to this coming phone.

My question is, I live in northernmost San Diego, and I already have a spotty service with my smt5600, on Cingular. It runds 850 and 1900, I believe. The i600 runs 900 and 1900 (in addition to the other bands on this triband phone). Will I possibly get better or worse service in my area using the i600?

Posted by: Death_Dealer

you are talking about the samsung blackjack, blackjack has better rf then smt5600

Posted by: adkalra

Rumor has it that the Sghi600 will be quad band.

Posted by: ascalon

No, the blackjack is sgh-i607. The i600 has wifi and a second camera for vid conferencing, unlike the blackjack.

Let's hope it's true. I'm disappointed that the Samsung spec sheet only says that the phone is GSM capable w/o listing the bands that it supports.

Posted by: ascalon

It supposedly has all bands exept 850, which would be annoying. I'll pray that it's quad band. Anyone have a clue how much this puppy will cost?

Its true. I've already posted a link to this with a thread in this forum called Samsung the MS Mobile 5 Smartphone Darling

Here it is again. its nice to be ignored.

Which source stated the phone to be quad band? *edit: Never mind, found it in above link *

I think few people are catching on because most people are seriously confusing the i600 with the almost identical "LOOKING" i607/blackjack. Been a couple years since I looked into a new phone, and the smt 5600 is getting too outdated for me. I may be willing to pay up and over $400 for this i600, but I pray that I wont have to (especially since I must buy new types of memory for these newer phones).

Thanks for the link! I just don't get why Samsung didn't release the spec in their other main page, but man, I can't wait for this phone to be released!

Wait. UMTS is the mobile broadband thing right (I'm really behind in all these new technologies)? They say this only supports that over the 2100mhz band. From what I hear, Cingular only boadcasts their broadband speed over 850 and 1900, is that correct? If so, I think I'd go with the blackjack, because I really need the high speed connectivity.

Yes Cingular I believe, like Rogers Wireless here in Canada; are using both the 850/1900Mhz UMTS/HSDPA bands. Thus why the BlackJack is in use on that network supports both.

However from the specs of the i600 - the doppleganger of the BlackJack - shows ....
HSDPA / UMTS, GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz)
> nothing there specifies WHICH band the HSDPA/UMTS uses. So I cant say yes or no of the integration of the 2100Mhz band. I'm still digging.

Posted by: ascalon

I saw at a couple of places they said the high speed UMTS was over the 1200 band only, but had edge etc. on the other bands.

Posted by: Prom1

This is what I've found thus far from ...

Mobile-Review

which claims UMTS/HSDPA on 2100Mhz band ONLY.

However ....

PDAdb.net claims 850/1900Mhz bands. Hmm seems they'll release 2 versions of this but then again I dont see this happening as it will piss off Cingular.
Specs they show are:
Upcoming device
Samsung SGH-i600
Release Date: January, 2007
OS: Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone
CPU: 32bit Texas Instruments OMAP 1710 [ARM926EJ-S] , 220MHz,

Lastly, a poster by the name of "bnycastro" at SmartphoneThoughts stated
Quote:
cnet is posting quad band GSM [GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900], but the UMTS is just 3G with HSDPA [no specific band mentioned] I'm sure it will support 2100Mhz [our band here in Manila, since it is slated for launch here].

any new info on this phone, i cant wait, since tmo couldnt make the blackjack happen

Posted by: Sgt_Strider

Here's an update on this phone. According to Samsung's website, the i600 is already released in certain European markets.

http://www.samsung.com/PressCenter/...0212_0000321115

The problem is that there are more conflicting information. The press release doesn't mention anything about quadband. I decide to google around and see if there are any updates and apparently Expansys will be getting some soon. The problem is that it doesn't support 850mhz!

Review confirms it is in fact Triband.

Damn it! Why did Samsung released information indicating that it have 850mhz support?

Also is that for real, is has a 416mhz processor? Talk about crazy...

Posted by: ARHYTHMATIK

Yeah-- pretty lame. But regardless of the lacking 850 band, the HSPDA wouldn't work in Cingular's network because that uses a different band than the European HSPDA. I'm just waiting for the wifi microSD card to come out to have wifi on the Blackjack. But a 416 mhz processor- wow! That would have been nice!

Posted by: mobilegruven

I don't know for sure, but my guess is the hardware supports all the available bands and all that has to be done is tweak a bit somewhere in memory and the device will work in a new location... Let's just wait and see where Samsung decides to release this beauty.

Perhaps Cingular locked them into a deal where they couldn't release the 600 or perhaps the 600 will be offered by Cingular....errr, I mean AT&T.
