PEBL - Closing flip while on speakerphone ends call Why?

According to the PEBL manual, closing the flip after activating the speakerphone will not end the call. This is not the case with my phone.

I had a V551 and I was able to use the speakerphone after closing the flip.
Does anyone know if this is a design issue or is there a problem with my phone?
