Bought my 8525 last night, and despite my initial enthusiasm, it's already screwed up.
Take a look at the screenshots of the LCD (warning, large images):

Today screen, not as evident
Today screen, a little better photo
Sigh - I had been waiting on the phone, and now this.

send it back

Yes, send it back or take it back. Where did you get it from? Store would be perfect as you could just get another one. If you got it in the mail from Cingular, tell them to send them another one right away and you'll ship the old one back in the box they provide. Works very well. Let us know how you made out. Good luck to you!

I had same problem with my first 8525. The screen would almost go white, then it would go back to normal after I pressed really hard on the screen, really weird...I just took it back and got another one to be safe

First off, let me remind people that Cingular has come in dead last with regard to customer service in about every satisfaction poll.
I took the phone back to the corporate store from which it was purchased. They did not have any others in stock, and the sales guy did not want me to return the phone - he'd lose commission on the 2 year re-up I had signed. Now, normally I would insist, but I have dealt with this guy before, and he's always been pretty good. I wasn't too happy when he gave me a list of stores in the area and told me to call them on my own. On the other hand, I wanted to be sure I got another phone, so again, I was willing to work with him.
The Reston Town Center Store first asked if I was willing to re-up my contract, then told me they had the phone in stock. I drive down, no phone. I decided to return the phone at that point. They refused to remove the 2 year contract, and told me if I did not like it, to call corporate....
After the first customer service rep (who was quite rude), I got a hold of another rep. At last, someone helpful, friendly, and professional. To bring this long story to short close - I got the phone for $150 cheaper and it's being FedEx'd to me!

Cingular / ATT have very sh***y customer service.
I have a Cingular 8525, but I have it unlocked to work with any GSM network.
I recently started having the white screen problem, so I called Cingular / ATT.
When I called, the customer service guy was eating and barely talking to me.
He was more concerned about his food, than helping a customer.
I had to repeat myself too many times, so, I hung up.
THat is the worst customer service I've ever had.

Just call back if you get someone bad...I've had some REALLY bad ones, and REALLY good ones..
If they seems stupid right away, dont waste ur time. Hang up and call back...

Fixed the "White Screen" problem.
I took my 8525 all apart, and it was the ribbon cable, it came loose.
Works like new now.
I did also update to WIndows Mobile 6, and I love it, so far.

Raptorguy,
Any tips or tricks on the disassembly? I need to do the same thing to mine.

I followed these pictures at this link:
8525 disassembly
Here's what I can remeber from this week of taking mine apart.
I may have missed a step, but correct me if I'm wrong.
- Remove Stylus, Battery Cover, Battery & Sim card
- Remove the 4 screw in the back (you need a T7 bit, I believe)
- Slide the keyboard out, and carefully pry the back cover off.
- Your will see a small ribbon cable coming off the backside of the board, to the front, you dont need to disconnect this, but check before you reassemble, it may come undone, just reseat it if this happens.
- There is one T7 screw holding the board on towards the top (where the camera is)
- Once you have removed the screw, you will need to pull the board towards the top, the charging port needs to slide out of its hole in the case.
- Once you have got the board free, carefully, flip it over, and pull the tape back that is holding the wide ribbon connector in place.
- Do not throw the tape away, you will need it to put back. I pulled it completely off, and reused it.
- Disconnect the ribbon connector, and remove the 4 small screws for the sliding parts, two on each side of the case.
- Now the board is free from the screen, you can now seperate the two.
- Now take the 4 small screws free from the backside of the screen case.
- You will need a credit card or some hard plastic card to remove the back cover of the lcd housing. Take your time.
- Once you have the cover off, locate the ribbon connector, and reseat the connector.
- After that is done, you reverse the steps to put it back togather, not too hard, but take your time.
Let me know if you have any problems, Ill do what I can to help.

I wonder if this is what causes a lot of the white screen issues...
I'm debating about getting an 8525, or waiting for the 8925/Tilt/Kaiser/Tytn II.
I can't believe all the issues with the white screen! I'd be PISSED if that happened to my new phone the day after I got it.

I've had to take my apart 2-3 times so far in the last week.
White screen came back, reattaching the ribbon helped again.
