who feels stiffed by the BCS? i personally wanted to see an OSU-Michigan rematch. since they are the two best teams in the country

Posted by: Urban Strata

I agree that Ohio State and Michigan are the best teams in the country, but after initially wanting to see a rematch, I've decided to side with those who prefer a championship game between teams that won their respective conferences. I guess that only leaves us with Ohio State-Florida since Southern Cal has two losses, but I still think both Michigan and Southern Cal are better teams than Florida.

I'll have to eat my words if Florida actually beats Ohio State (in which case I think there'll be yet another split champion), but I'll be looking for the Buckeyes to stomp all over the Gators.

Time for a playoff system!

Hey, I'm a Buckeye who married a Gator, so this is my year! I went to the OSU vs Michigan game and it was a great game. I'm of the opinion that on a nutral field Michigan would likely beat Ohio State... But, being that Fl was voted in and my FIL asked me to go with him... I'm in football heaven this year. I just may be the only one wearing an Ohio State cap sitting in the Gator booster section. I'm so pumped about football this year!

I really wanted the Hogs to win the LSU game and represent the SEC against Ohio State. I think they could play with the Buckeyes better than FL will. Your fans were great at the Dome and I loved the cheer (hog calling) they did.

My son is playing (band) in the GA state football Semi's tonight at the Dome, so I'll be leaving soon for that game. If you want to see FL's punter next year log onto the 9:00 pm game here

#12 the East Paulding Raiders QB has already committed to Fl as a kicker. It also so sweet that with my WM phone I can log on to the broadcast feed of a HS football game and watch from my cell phone!

Someone said the other day that this is the "year of the Gator"

Perhaps they are right, former gator was even the "dancing king"

Posted by: pawelm9

well i have always been a florida fan even though i live in the pacific northwest i have always loved steve "the old ball coach" spurrier so i guess this is a big year for me! and i dont think emmitt smith deserved that title but thats a story for another day!

How do you get lie feeds with WM? im a little bit of a noob

Posted by: trjons

Michigan, like USC, are better than Florida but both choked away their chance to play in the title game.

I'm no fan of the SEC but Florida deserved the bid this time around, if only by default.

Posted by: Urban Strata

As a graduate of the University of Georgia, I feel it's my duty to raise my anti-Florida flag with pride:

(Makes me feel better about perpetually losing to the Gators. )

Posted by: mikewchandler

Go Hogs!!

Yeah, Florida got it. I've never liked them b/c of Spurrier but they're a really neat team this year. Tebo (sp?) makes it pretty exciting too.

Posted by: chnky18

I love my Noles(thank goodness we had a winning season and for Jeff Bowden being gone) but I really do believe that UF is gonna beat OSU. I dont think OSU is ready for Tebow/Leak. But we should be having a playoff anyway and after the Michigan spanking and the OU upset, I hope University presidents open their eyes.

Posted by: trjons

tend to agree that Florida will win.

Diehard Trojan here and after watching us rout Michigan, my opinion is unchanged that the Big 10 was very weak this year and the two best teams were Florida and my Trojans. SC blew it vs. the Bruins so Florida gets the shot at proving just how weak the Big 10 is.

I hope you are correct about Jeff being the problem at FSU, but my opinion (from a gator fan perspective) is that Bobby should have retired. I think he's been a figurehead coach for years anyway. He's let his assistants do the coaching and it has shown itself the last couple of years. Since Bobby is going to Chase Paterno's win record, his ego will destroy the Noles for the future. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm going to be quietly pulling for Buckeyes but cheering for the Gators. My ticket is in the Gator section and I need to keep peace in the family. If the Gators come prepared they will give OSU more than they can handle. Plus most of the Florida injured are now fully recovered. The Big 10 powerhouses (OSU & Michigan) seem to have a tuff time with Bowl games. I think the shock of warm weather and the sight of the sun is just too much for them

As for the SC Michigan game, it surprised me that Michigan had no answer for the SC speedy receivers.

My seat is 30 rows up between the goal posts (the section that moves out) I'll be the guy getting beat up by his FIL if the Gators are loosing

Playoff! Why can't we just go back to the old bowl system? That way all of us could argue "wooda, coulda, shoulda" for a whole year. These are still places of education and the season does not need to be any longer. Some of the bowl games mean nothing these days, at least with the old system the regional and league rivalries really made for fun times. What difference does a definative National Champion make in the world? Someone will always be left out and the controversy will always be there. JMHO

Posted by: Urban Strata

I'm going to change what I wrote above: I want Florida to win the championship, and not just because they're an SEC team. I want Boise State to end the season as the only undefeated team in the nation, and for Florida's one-loss "championship" to force a more serious dialogue about a playoff system.

Not that I think Boise State would actually beat Florida or Ohio State, but they deserve a shot.

Don't know if I agree with you there, hitch. The NFL, NBA, MLB and NCAA basketball all seem to be doing quite nicely (and generally controversy-free) with their playoff systems. Yes, there will always be "woulda, coulda, shoulda," among losing teams, but that's the nature of sports and I see no problem with establishing a definitive champion.

I'm ok with the playoff but the regular season needs to be cut back to 8-9 games or football will be going on forever. I dislike seeing NCAA Football made so important that we forget that Universities are there for education. The playoff system, if done in late Nov and through Dec like it should be done, will negate any bowl importance. Who's going to want to go see a bowl game with the teams that lost in the 1st round of the playoffs? If the NCAA (BCS) waits until after the bowl's to start the playoffs the season will go until Feb.

I love March madness, but that is the point, in 30 days it is over. Several games can be played over the course of a week. I don't think Football players are conditioned that way. I rarely watch NCAA or NBA baketball games from start to finish. Why? because the only important games are in March. At least with the Current or original Bowl system nearly 25 teams go home the champion of something. With a playoff, only one goes home a winner and you still run the risk of a smaller program going undefeated and not getting invited to the dance. It's way fun to banter about it though!

OH, almost forgot "Go Dawgs!" just for you US

This makes no sense, you say from a gator fan perspective then say youre going to be pulling for OSU but cheering for UF....are u a gator fan or no?

As for the Bobby, he isnt chasing Paterno's record....he actually has JoePa beat by 3 games. I dont think Bowden is bad, I think some of the coaches are bad. Ever since Richt left for Georgia, things just havent been the same on offense. But what you really need to look at, is that the QB next year will finally be a Jr again....no more young QB's. I'm not claiming a national championship or anything but ACC champs isnt out of the question.

I'd say I'm a College football fan 1st, I like it all. I went to Ohio State, but I've lived in Fl (the south) so long that the Gators are my married and adopted team. I've got nothing against the Noles and respect the heritage.

I for some reason do not care for Bobby, I like the school and team though. I think it is his "Reverend" statements, along with his lack of discipline, and his making excuses for his ill mannerd players in the past. I cannot recall a suspension for infractions when a major game was on the line. I greatly respect the coaches who bench a player for grades or team rules regardless who the opponent is the next week. That is what makes me think he has given way to much control to assistants and the program needs new leadership. I also think it is against (or should be) the NCAA rules to allow the booster's the power to buy out and terminate an assistant coach. Bobby should have fired Jeff if he was the reason the offense was sub par, not allow the boosters to be involved with something that was school business. But that is JMHO

As for the record, Many do not recognize his Samford and South GA college wins as having the same weight as Jo Pa's Div 1 wins & 40 plus years at Penn State.

I'm not going to argue the lower division wins, 31, that were not Div 1. Bobby has had a great career, but seriously, since Richt left you can see its not been the same team. I'd love to see them on top again and wish Bobby good health.

I also enjoy good banter about NCAA Football!
feel free to slam the Gators and Buckeye's now, but be careful about the Hogs as Mike will get involved.

Posted by: chnky18

Well personally I think Bobby has gotten better about suspensions. They kicked Fred Rouse, their freshman, up and coming stud WR off the team. Honestly though, show me a coach that suspends a start player when a big game is on the line. As for boosters, boosters run every college in the nation. There are players at every college that get paid....its like steroids in MLB. Until a few years ago, everyone knew but no one wanted to do anything about it.

The reason Jeff stepped down was because he knew he needed to. Bobby didnt fire him because his relationship with his family is more important and he said that in an interview. Said he wasnt going to single someone out like others do and I for one respect that.

I also love College football banter but I cant slam the Gators because they are/will be the best team in Florida for the next few years.

Buckeye's....ugh cant stand em and I think Troy Smith is gonna get effed up....Gators 24-17

Posted by: pawelm9

lets not get carried away and say that troy smith will get effed up but the gators will cover spread! the game will be closer then everybody thinks

Posted by: evolande

Okay, here is my input here. I am a die hard Buckeye fan but I honestly believe that Boise State, while not a big team, earned the RIGHT to play the Buckeyes. Hell, they beat Oklahoma and went 13-0. I dont care who you are...if you go undefeated, regardless of who you play, you should deserve the chance to play for the National Title. Period. I would have felt the same way if Rutgers wouldn't have choked against Cincinnati. Now, to the game at hand; Gator fans...I'm sorry but the sweater vest is going to bury the Gators. They say Gator tastes like chicken and so does Wolverine...how well do you honestly think a Gator team is honestly going to do against Ted Ginn Jr and Anthony Gonzalez...2 very real threats in the slot and outside positions with the Heismann Trophy winner and 5th year senior Smith? Not to mention our best defense in years? Sorry, but I have the Buckeyes by at least 2 touchdowns.

Posted by: chnky18

well in only a few short hours....we will find out....still feeling the gators.

Posted by: pawelm9

the gators won!:S now let the debate over the final season rankings begin!

my final rankings
1. Florida
2. Boise State
3. Ohio State

Posted by: trjons

The Big 10 was exposed as a season long fraud.

My top 5:

1. Fl
2. BSU
3. USC
4. LSU
5. OSU

Posted by: AndrewGene

1. FL
2. USC
3. BSU
4. LSU
5. WISC (even though I'm from Arkansas and don't want to put them there--they were ranked sixth and won, how could they not be in the top five since OSU was blown out)

I said and stood by it and have to say damn I was right. 4/14 for 35yds with 1 int. Negative rush yards and a fumble at the end of the first half that put the game out of reach. Smith got hit hard a few times and UF effed his game up. I always thought he was overrated and he proved it. Just like USC last year, got the trophies, heisman, but didnt get the one trophy that mattered.

The SEC is the strongest conference. Even though they lost some bowl games, there were (I think) 7 teams that played bowl games and obviously, Florida thumped OS. Remember Florida was beat by Tenessee who Arkansas beat. Then, LSU beat AR......etc...... They all beat eachother at some point. It's a tough conference.

Actually Florida's only loss was to Auburn on a questionable fumble call.

Posted by: mikewchandler

yeah, someone at work reminded me of that a few minutes ago. I had forgotten. It seems like tenessee beat someone pretty good (lsu?).....anyway, you get the point, I guess.

The game was a BLAST!
I'm happy I was wearing my gator gear. I've had three hours of sleep in two days. The Gator nation is very happy here, but tired.

Posted by: surfguru101

Ah ha ha ha Florida Whooped Ohio State it wasnt even close. Just proved every one in this forum wrong. Were going to do it again next year.

Posted by: chnky18
