The 8525 says that it will be ptt capable with a software update in 2007, is there anyway that my 8125 will be able to do ptt with a software update also. I plan on getting the 8525 and will give my 8125 to my girl and would like to be able to use ptt with her.

And when will the software update be available for the 8525 to enable ptt?

Well if it's software based, anything is possible. I wouldnt count on it, since the 8125 doesnt support 3G

the ptt doesnt run off of 3g, so i mean is there anyway i could flash my 8125 with a modded 8525 software verion or anything. like i said im getting the 8525 and want to give my girl the 8125 and me have the 8525 and be able to chirp each other

NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE OR ANYTHING BUT DONT SAY COMMENT ON ANYTHING, IF YOU DONT KNOW, PTT DOESNT RUN OFF 3G SO DONT ASSUME IT DOES.

You do know that Cingular charges extra for PTT right?

Posted by: string965

yes i know that, im just really dorky so love to have all the "cool" features to show off and mess with.

Unless Cingular releases a ROM update for this, you will not be seeing PTT on the 8125. You CAN NOT use a 8525 (HTC Hermes) ROM on an 8125 unless you are trying to make a paper weight. Both of these phones use different hardware, which makes cross using ROM's impossible.

the thing is that the software which will load on the 8525 will be based on 3g services and software which will backwards compatable with 2g ptt. i dont think the software will work on the 8125 because the device is not 3g capable.

Cingular may just release a .CAB file that installs PTT on the 8525. Or the PTT features may be in a .CAB file in the extended ROM from a future ROM release. Either way if you are able to obtain the .CAB file, you should be able to install it on the 8125 since both systems are running WM5. If these features are hard coded into the ROM, then good luck.

I found the PTT cab file for the 8525 here, the problem is when i try to run the ptt program after it is installed it says "ptt not availible while roaming" I am in a COR store so i know where not roaming. anuone know what the issue is. thanks

If you want the cool features, then why do you want ptt?

It's funny how I deal with this every day... You spend more time trying to ridicule the person asking questions than actually trying to help. Grow up and stop trying to act like a know it all... You don't know it all and your ignorance is to believe that you do.

- The only way to learn something is to shut your mouth and listen to others…

PS... I joined this forum just to say this and I hate joining anything.
Thanks
Jon

You really should have taken your own advice and just left it alone instead of resurrecting a thread that was almost 11 months old.....my two cents anyway...
