i currently have service with cingular. can renew my contract on the 17th. am i able to do this with amazon to get the blackjack, get the discounts, and still keep my same phone number? i'm just confused after reading those service requirements.

if the answer is yes, then here's another. amazon forces you to sign up for the unlimited pda connect plan ($40/mo). i dont see anything in the requirements that says you need to keep it, so am i able to cancel it after a month or two w/o having to pay $250 to amazon? since all it says is that i have to keep the cingular account open for 181 days.

thanks in advance.

The terms say you can't "transfer an existing line of service" within 180 days (6 months) to a new Cingular account sold by Amazon, and that "you will not use this new line of service to replace an existing account with Cingular." This means no renewals, unless you want a new phone number.

I don't know whether the data plan can be canceled within 180 days without incurring the fee from Amazon (let alone an ETF from Cingular).

If im reading it correctly its probably for new activiations only.

Just keep it till your rebate is processed, then drop it and add one of the MediaMax plans.

i just got off the phone with amazon. spoke to a 'supervisor' in the 'cell phone dept'. they said you can get the discounted price with new service plan and still be able to keep your current cell number.

cingular says i can upgrade phones on the 17th. so i'll go ahead and order it through amazon on or after the 17th. sign up for the unlimited data plan, like amazon forces you to, keep it for a month or so, then cancel it since it's not required to have to get the discounted price. there's also a $50 rebate through cingular for activating a service plan of $39.99 or higher. hopefully all goes well.

I hope you got the supervisor's name and ID #, and logged the date and time of your call. I suspect that no matter what the supervisor said, Amazon is going to stick to what's printed on their website and ding you when you port your number. Good luck!

Personally I would just forget about the $50 MIR then. Think about it, if you have the $39.99 plan for 2 months that will total just about $80. If you forget about this rebate and just choose unlimited media max for $19.99 a month this will total about $40 in 2 months, so after all this you will save $10...

i'm confused by what you're saying. amazon doesn't give the option for the unlimited media max with the blackjack.

if i dont get it through amazon, how long do you have to keep the unlimited data plan for to redeem the $100 rebate? i spoke to a guy in the cingular store, he said you can get the one that's $30 (which one is $30?) and that you need to keep it for 6mo.

I just wrote off the rebate and changed my plan back to MEdiaNet 200 the next day...I see no reason to pay an extra $20 per month for the 3 to 4 months that it takes them to process the rebate.

Of course, I mailed in the rebate slip anyway; my store receipt shows the service upgrade. If they happen to pay it, well, then I guess that they should have checked the current plan!

I've never ordered off of Amazon, but do you have the option to order it without a data plan? If you do, I would order it this way and just eat the cost of the $50 MIR that you would receive if you signed up for the $39.95 media plan.

If you order the $39.95 plan for the $50 MIR this could take you 3-4 months to receive which would total about $160 in data charges.

If you don't order a data plan and add the media max plan manually later on, the 4 months will only cost you around $80 in data charges.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

do you guys know after signing up with amazon if i can register for a FAN account since i get a 15% Service Discount

And I want to know if I am going to be charge for transfering it to a FAN one ??

Posted by: fifty50

yea. you're forced to add on a data plan when ordering through amazon. the $50 rebate is just activating service, it's not for the data plan.

Does amazon let you port your phone # over from a difference service provider when signing up for this deal?

Nope. You are not allowed to "transfer an existing phone number to this new line of service" within 180 days, whether that phone number comes from Cingular or another carrier.

I too am confused by amazon. If they won't allow you to port your number then why are they asking you if you are an existing customer? Their site seems to indicate that by signing up you agree to extend your contract for two years.

Any advice (I am eligible for an upgrade through cingular - I'm in month 22 of my contract)...I'd really like a blackjack, but I don't want to pay $200 from cingular
