Installing Sirius on BlackJack [HELP]

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Buddha Jones

I've had my BJ for about 2 weeks now and one of those I have spent trying to get Sirius to install and work. I tried SiriusCE and SiriusWM5 and neither work. SiriusCE installs but wont play the files, said something to the extent of incompatible file format. I talked to a friend that has the 8125 and it works on his, and another friend that has the 8515 is using SiriusWM5. I can't get SWM5 to install, I have the cab file on the BJ but it wont recognize it. I have to search for it to find it and when I do it wont do anything with it.

In short, if you have a BlackJack and have Sirius working, please tell me how you installed it, where you got the install files from and what service plan are you on. I know it can work I just cant figure out how.

Posted by: I have a phone

just a guess, but if they have the XM app on the BJ, why would they want you to be running a Sirius app?

Posted by: Buddha Jones

I have a Sirius account, not an XM account.

Posted by: tkdlove

understood... but XM has the deal with Cingular not Sirius... SOL i am afraid... proprietary

Not at all. I have the SiriusWM5 on my smartphone (not a BJ though)

Posted by: Buddha Jones

I KNOW its possible because people on here have done it. I am hoping one of them will chime in soon.

Posted by: SkaWes

I have been able to get SiriusWM5 to work, it is just finicky sometimes. Some things to check:

1.) Obvious but it doesn't hurt mentioning, make sure you have set your username and login through the settings

2.) Once you have done that pick a stream and see what happens, usually for me I have to try it once and it says connection failure, on the second time it will usually display the validation image and it's gravy from there.

and no other smartphone has XM built in...

you can always find a back door to all things.

the fact of the matter is: XM = XM Mobile which is only a few stations and not much of a selection.

not to mention the battery drain...

I have a Blackjack with Cingular. I am using SiriusWM5 on it right now. All I did was copy the .cab file to the Smartphone, opened the file thru File Manager on the phone, ran the program after it installed, logged in, typed the graphic text, selected a channel, and enjoyed the music. Sorry, I had NO issues installing it. Works flawlessly.

Did you get the latest .cab file?

Posted by: Buddha Jones

I got the cab file today. Where did you get yours, and do I have to put it in a specific place for the system to see it?

Posted by: I have a phone

sounds like a work, just to make it work

? WTF?

Installing it is as easy as any other program on a Smartphone. The Login and authentication process is simple and straightforward also. If it seems like a lot of steps, I was just trying to present every detailed step. In actuality, it takes about 2 min to setup and run.

If that's "alot of work" you must use your phone for nothing than phone calls.

http://home.ptd.net/~cobra04/code.html

Copy it to your phone via ActiveSync. Any directory will do. I suggest to your storage card. and install it to your storage card works fine too. It s just like installing any other .cab file.

Posted by: Buddha Jones

I just got home to try it again and it is not working. It doesnt show the file unless I search for it, and then I cannot run it after I find it.

Posted by: jomo25

Don't know what to tell you dude...THough you might try being a little more descriptive of how far you get if you want targeted help. I.e. Did you copy the .cab file to the BJ? If so, to what directory? What are you using to find the file on the BJ? Are you saying its not where you put it? etc...

Has the file gone through installation process at all? After I installed it, there was an icon for it on the very last page of my start bar.

that should have read *a lot of work*

but anyway, my original point stands. Why would they allow you to run Sirius if the mobile has an exclusive for XM? not that hard to understand is it?

That is what I did too. It seems the smartphone edition does not work. I installed the WM5 version and it is working perfectly.

You don't get it. "They" can't control what software is running on your phone and how it uses the network. The SiriusWM5 software does not ask "them" if it's OK, it just uses the network and picks up the stream, just as any other program would that uses the internet.

Posted by: Buddha Jones

have tried putting the file in several places, I put it on the root of the storage card, I put it in My Docs, I put it in My Stuff, doesn't matter it seems. I even emailed it to myself to see if ti will open the attachment but it wont cuz it is a .cab file. I can see the file from the ActiveSync explorer but not from the phone.

I just realized that I have two other cab files on my pohone but I cant see them either, the XpressMail and the OZInstantMessaging. Is there some kind of file permission setting that I am not aware of?

and you don't think that stream can be blocked if they want to? c'mon now

No, it will not be blocked. It works fine on my phone, you think they would want to (or have the ability to) block it only for a blackjack? Please stop confusing people with your nonsense.

Posted by: Buddha Jones

Hey guys, I am not even that far to discuss blocking. Check out my last post, I think I may have bigger issues than that.

Posted by: SkaWes

Give us a step by step process of what happens, I am still not entirely what point this process is getting stalled at. When you put the CAB file in your my documents folder, does it go through the installation process when you click it? Describe to us in detail what is going on at what point and maybe we can help you out.

Posted by: Buddha Jones

OK, here goes...
1. I open up active sync explorer and I see filders, files and 2 other .cab files
2. I open up another window on my PC and navigate to the folder with the .cab file
3. I drag the .cab file from my F drive to the Mobile Device
4. The Active Sync 'Copy and Convert' window opens up and does its thing
5. On the BJ I click 'start' and go to 'my stuff' and the file is not there or anywhere in a sub folder
6. I do a search for it and it finds it, but I cannot use it, its like some kinda security is running

WTF?

I hardly know it all, and am not an authority on this, but what your saying has no merit in this thread IMHO. XM is bundled, but Cingular and/or XM have no exclusivity as to what the end consumer can/wants to listen and choose as far as satellite radio. It is just that they make it easy for a customer to pick XM.

Plenty of Siirus subscribers listen on their phone no problem. I get your line of thinking, but I agree with the other poster, please stop confusing this issue for the OP.

As to why one would want to listen to Sirius over XM, one is a personal preference, the other is that he/she is most likely already a Sirius member and wouldn't have to pay any further fees to listen to it.

Posted by: jomo25

To those who think they are blocking it - They aren't. They haven't. I have BJ on Cingular MediaMax plan. I installed the .cab file for SiriusWM5. Works well. I'm listening to it now.

To Buddha - I would run File Manager on your BJ. It's under Applications on your Start Menu. To get there, click on Start til you see the Applications menu item. CLick on it. You'll see File Manager. Navigate to your Storage Root if that's where you put the .cab file. You should see it there. Highlight it and Click it to run it. It'll ask you where to install - Device or Storage. Choose one. Then let it install. Then go back to your Start menu until you see the SiriusWM5 menu item. Click on it to run it.

Don't use the "My Stuff" application to look for the .CAB file on the phone. My Stuff filters out filetypes that aren't documents or media. Use the File Explorer application (in the Applications folder), or, better yet, get a copy of Total Commander (which is free).

If you aren't going to help this guy get Sirius working on his phone you can feel free to troll a different thread.

This is what I was going to post, but you beat me to it! Try opening it via file explorer and see what happens then. Better yeat hold down the home button and quit all processes, then go to the file via file explorer and try to install it.

BINGO!!!

First off I want to thank all of you who were so kind to try and help me out. I didnt think I was a NEWB, but since this is my first Windows Mobile phone, I guess I am. Sorry to have wasted your time.

TV, I just happened to be navigating through the phone last night looking for anything that would give me a clue as to what I am missing. I went into the Applications folder looking to see of there was an Application Installer program when I saw the File Explorer, and the rest is history. I think I need to do some more configuring to my start menu and move some things around.

Thanks again to everyone.

Bada bing, mystery solved. Glad it works.

Hey guys, I just installed this on my phone thanks to this thread.

I was wondering though, does anyone else feel that the volume output from the speakerphone is extremely low? Is there a way to fix this?

Also, is there a way for it to display the Song name and Artist on the home screen after you exit out of the program? All I see is the long web address scrolling across the bottom.

Note: Selecting display artist / song name in settings doesn't change this.

Lastly, I selected CD quality stream, but it doesn't seem to actually be CD quality, any input on this?

Hey guys newbie here with a brand new Blackjack for my wife for Christmas. I have never in my life used a mobile windows device before nor has my wife. She has been a Treo 600 to Treo 650 to Treo 680 user over the past 4 years with Cingular. I liked the Blackjack because I wanted her to be able to use it with our slingbox. That was the first thing that I set up and it works like a charm amazing with our Tivo. I am also a Sirius member and was reading the thread trying to figure out how to stream sirius. I just downloaded and installed SiriuCE 2 full installer for a smartphone and it does not work. So I read this thread and installed SiriusWM5 without a problem, but it does not work for me. I can start the app and see the channels and settings to put in my user name and PW but I get "Connection failed" I've double checked my user name and pw, but still no luck any ideas? Also seeing as I'm new to Win Mobile, how do I uninstall a program that I installed ie. SiriuCE 2?
Thanks,
JMAN

Posted by: jmandss

I GOT IT MEN!!! Just had to uninstall the SiriuCE2 with all the other stuff that it installed and now WM5 works flawlessly..
Thanks
I'm sure I'll be back for more questions later...
Take care...
