Well, one thing we know is that there is no currently known way to the public to use any potential Wi-Fi hardware in the Blackjack. I don't think we know enough one way or the other to know if the Wi-fi hardware was physically removed like they removed the VGA front camera before shipping the camera to Cingular or if Cingular disabled it and has restricted our access. They allowed Wi-Fi on the 8525 made by HTC so this would indicate it was physically removed ( along with the i600 front VGA camera) by Samsung to perhaps keep the price down.
On the other hand some are susupicious that the Wi-Fi is there but Cingular has programed the phone to disable it. I have had conversations with Cingular tech support who claim that when the phones arrived from Samsung to the USA back many weeks ago, before they programmed them, that the Wi-Fi WORKED in those phones!
Who wants to volunteer to take their phone apart and get the schematics of both the i600 and the i607 to see just what hardware is or is not there. Maybe a CIngular employee can tell us. Maybe a Samsung rep. can tell us.
For now all we will likely know and hear is that there is no WI-Fi in the Blackjack, and that is correct, and there is no current way to prove otherwise and in fact there may not be. On the other hand, there could be a possibility that the WI-Fi hardware is there (because it is in the brother phone the i600), and that the 3G is routed through it, but then anything is possible.
Hey just on the slight chance that the Wi-Fi is in the phone and just program disabled, would someone figure out how to turn it on! (if if if ....) I mean I have no 3G coverage here in Orange County/LA and now the word is that it may take until August of 2007. So geeee, it would have been nice to keep the Wi-Fi for those of us who cannot yet get 3G cause it takes time to roll it out everywhere. I know, once you you have 3G, having Wi-Fi is less important, but Cingular has a long way to go to get 3G in all its main markets, its really bad that LA/OC are so behind or not up yet, and they have Samsung REMOVE or they DISABLE a great feature many would have found useful? I don't know, make you wonder.
But all is not lost, those of you reading this do know there is a microSD Wi-Fi card coming out early 2007. If you want to know the details let me know, its announcement is out there on the web. Let's hope Cingular cannot disable or remove that! I am sorry but I am critical of Cingular for not bringing the Blackjack to market with the Wi-Fi that is in the i600, it just is working out for CIngular's benefit, at the cost of convience of many in non-3G areas, which will remain widespread for the next year to two!

i think you made a nice argument. but its one simlar to one when the 2125 came out and everyone thought it had wifi built in like the sda. but that was disproven (yes they were diffrent)pretty quickly. it makes perfect sense why they would take away the wifi one it would compete with the 8525 to much. ya it ppc vs wsp. but why not just get the smaller lighter version of the two. too seeing that cingular wants you to buy the pda connect there making money. but if you had wifi then they would have less people buying the data plan and using the wifi thus losing money

I think you are pretty much right on, but if you ask Cingular they are going to try and shift the issue of why no wi-fi to the cost savings of the phone itself. They are claiming that by asking Samsung to remove the Wi-Fi they pay Samsung less per unit and this cost savings is passed on to the customer. And this may be accurrate to some degree, but the points you correctly raise also support the disabling of the wi-fi by programming methods. THe Dash has Wi-Fi and is offered at the same price point so how much could it raise the unit price to keep it in? So, I think your points are right, and best for Cingular, understandable so they can make a bigger profit, but it leaves us consumers with less capabilities than could be and many perhaps a bit frustrated at Cingular in the long run, esp. those of us who have 3G delayed. At least for now, because soon enought there will be PDA similar phones out soon with WI-Fi, so all CIngular accomplishes in the long run is to buy some time and get some on the PDA connect. But remember, the contracts don't restrict you from turning off your pda connect plan month to month, and using your sim card in a new phone with wi-fi coming to the world market soon (and/or putting in a microSD wifi card soon).
I just wish Cingular would offer a cheaper PDA connect for those of us who bought the Blackjack based upon the representation of Cingular Store employees that 3G will be online any day now, or by the end of the year, or soon, when in fact its 7 months away( in my area of LA/OC - So. Calif), if it is. We shall see, its not all bad. Cingular is rolling 3G out as fast as they can, and many are happy, so all we can do it make the most of what we got, and it ain't all that bad.

Did you read the fine print on the bottom?
Connectivity and synchronization may require separately purchased equipment and/or wireless products (e.g., WiFi card.....
Do they mean a WiFi SD card?
Cingular doesnt like its phones having WiFi because how much they spend on their data networks. They lose a lot of money with people who use WiFi because that means all that data is not flowing on their network and thats a lot of $$ lost.
