Hi. I have been with Cingular for about 3 months. I lost my phone last night. Reported it via My account on the Cingular website. I had a nice Sony Ericsson I bought from elsewhere and not from Cingular.

Now what do I do? Do I have to pay retail for a phone? Is there insurance? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you got your phone from elsewhere, and not Cingular, did you take a discounted phone from Cingular when you signed up 3 months ago? If not, go into a corporate-owned store and ask if your discounted phone eligibility is still there. Tell them what happened and that you didn't get a discounted phone at sign up (BE HONEST; they can check this, and if you lie, you shoot yourself in the foot for getting help). You will very likely get a phone at the two-year price, assuming you signed or sign a two-year contract.

I actually did some cheapo phone at the time. I am going to use that until I find something nicer. I just hope a store gives me a sim for free. haha

Thanks for the advice though.

ive had my service for about 6 months, went to the cingular premier site and upgraded my phone to the CU500 for $50

I've been seeing some of the Go phones for $19 at Walmart and such. Just get a new SIM for your account, then pick up a cheap Go phone and you are good to go.

Or get one off Ebay, or ask your friends who use Cingular if they have an old phone you could have or borrow for a while.

The GO phones will work for my regular account as long as I use my SIM?? Cause Cingular told me No.

They tell you no because, technically, you're not supposed to do this (GoPhones are for prepaid users only), and they possibly lose money on the deal. However, a Cingular GoPhone is just as compatible with your SIM as a regular Cingular phone. They just come in different packaging.

There has been some talk about Cingular scanning IMEIs (serial numbers) and shutting down accounts that are using unactivated prepaid phones on a postpaid account.

WHoa! Sounds almost like I shouldn't do it then. Don't want to buy then have it shut off.

Yeah I would just try ebay. You won't have to mess with customer service, extending your contract, additional fee's etc.

Yeah. Thanks for the help. I called Cingular today about what the procedure is since I lost the phone.. and guess what, they were closed.
