simlock? help

I'm a bit confused here :/
A simlock, does this make sure you can only use the phone with one provider? (like Tmobile)
Is that what it means?

And if so, how does it lock the phone? does it give a message when you try to start the phone wit another SIM card in it? Or does the phone just shut down after a while of using it with another provider?

And can it be unlocked then?

tnx and feel free to inform me even more if you think it's relevant.

If the phone is network locked then only T-Mobile SIMs can be used in the phone. Inserting any other SIM will either give no network (although 999/112/911 calls can be made) or it will ask you to enter a subsidy code.
They can be unlocked, you may find a solution on the internet, or with new phones you may have to call the network to get the unlock code. They will charge you for this.

If the question is about a simlock then that may just mean the the SIM card itself is locked because the pin was entered incorrectly. You'll need to speak to the network to a PUK code.
