DRM/skin question on verizon flashed v3m to alltel

I have a quick question, I know I may get pwned as a noob, and for not searching, even though I did, but I was wondering... do these skins listed in the forums here and at motox.info work for alltel flashed phones? I have a V3m and I see skins I already put on my phone in these forums but I was not sure if like the MotoX skin worked for alltel flashed phones. Also I was wondering if with my alltel v3m phone if I could change DRM icons too? What does DRM mean? I know this is bothersome but I really appreciate the help! Oh and be nice...:-D
Thanks again,
DarynAR

The only skins you should use on your phone are the ones found in the "Skins for Alltel V3c" thread over in the Verizon/Motorola forum, and the ones on DarkLodge.com. Skins for GSM Motos (like the ones found at MotoX and MotoModders) will not work, and skins for E815s will have a missing square in the middle of the bottom bar where the menu icon would be. You can convert GSM skins to work on CDMA phones, but the process is rather involved, from what I hear.

You can't change DRMs on CDMA Moto phones. This is due to the way the flash files are structured. GSM flash files have about 15 different code groups - one is the RAMloader, another is the main firmware, and then the rest are different parts of the firmware, like the language pack and the DRM icons. CDMA flash files, on the other hand, only have 2 code groups - the RAMloader and the firmware. Since the whole firmware block is together in the CDMA flashes instead of split into little pieces, we can't change individual stuff like DRMs and language packs.

I don't know what "DRM" in the context of Motomodding stands for, and I'm not sure anyone does. I think it's kind of like "PDS" - one of those mysterious Motorola acronyms that we know what it is, we just don't know what it means.

(If anyone more familiar with GSM modding does in fact know what it stands for, feel free to correct me. I just recall reading somewhere that people weren't sure.)

i hope this isn't a stupid question, but here goes. could someone explain to me how to download the skins off of darklodge.com? if you click on the .ski file it shows..well like a text file with a bunch of text. i've tried a couple times but could'nt get it figured out. i'll probably feel like a dumb**s when someone explains it to me won't i? (won't be the first time, positive it won't be the last either.)

For the .ski file, right-click it and choose Save Link As. You can just click on the .dat files to begin downloading them. I use Firefox, but I'm pretty sure IE (and other web browsers) work similarly in this respect. I do know that IE will change the extensions of the .dat files to .gif, so you have to change them back.

I downloaded some skins off Darklodge. Now I want to put them on my phone...can I use Bitpm to do so? I have a Verizon but flashed to Alltel. I went to Bitpm then went to Mobile, Skins, Created a New Folder and loaded the DAT files for that skin and rebooted my phone but the new folder I created didnt show up. It just has Blue, Business Default, Tropical Still on my phone.

Any suggestions Please

If you still have Blue, Tropical, Business, and Default on your phone, then you are still on the VZW firmware. The Alltel firmware has the original Moto skins: Moto, Scarlet, and Techno. When you go into Phone Info> S/W Version, What does it say? That will tell you what firmware you have.

1. Make sure you are running the Altel firmware before you do anything with SKINS meant for the Moto UI... (Verizon UI users can change "themes" by using the hacktherazr process -> http://hacktherazr.com/guide.v3c.v3m.skin.html BUT this is NOT THE SAME thing as Moto UI phones use!!)

2. While BitPim is said to work to put skins on, success varies... P2KCommander is suggested for adding skins... However, BitPim is better for REMOVING skins, as P2KCommander wont show EMPTY folders... and Empty folders will still show as skins in the phone's menu...

3. If you have flashed your Verizon phone to the Alltel firmware successfully and you still have Blue/Business/Tropical, then you probably used the Alltel UPGRADE firmware, rather than the monster. You should remove the "verizon skins" as they don't work properly... The built "stock" moto ui skins can be found in section 12 of -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V3C-Process.htm
