I am ready a lot about different forms of 3g/hsdpa. I can't seem to find out what category chipset the 8525 has on it. Will Cingular's speed bump to 3.6mbps have any effect on us 8525 users?

Interesting...

Here's the phone specs for the 8525 from this URL http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=588

Supported Cellular Networks:
GSM 850MHz, GSM 900MHz, GSM 1800MHz, GSM 1900MHz, UMTS 850MHz, UMTS 1900MHz, UMTS 2100MHz

Supported Data Standards:
CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA

Phone Controller / DSP:
Qualcomm 6275

Reading the Qualcomm 6275 specs here
http://www.cdmatech.com/docs_detail...lts.jsp?chip=22
It says the data rate is up to 1.8 mbps

I would guess a bump up to 3.6 mbps in the Cing network would not effect the 8525, it would just continue to max out at 1.8 mbps

I would think it would have effect on everyone's speeds. Since no one is currently able to get real world speeds of 1.8mbps, we are not maxing out. If Cingular double their network speed, it will double our real world speed. I think the fastest speedtest I did was about 900 kbps on dslreports.com, using the Mobile Speed test of 1MB w/ a cleared Cache. So that is about 1/2 of the max speed. So a speed double by Cingular should pretty much max us out then.

i hope they do this soon

i heard they were gonna move to 7.2 by next year with a software update on the towers now that will be fast

Does anyone know what Qualcomm chipset is in the BlackJack?

The Hermes (8525, TyTN, etc) device has a 1.8 mbs max radio.

The blackjack is not qualcomm, according to pdadb.net it's "TI TMS320C55x"

Posted by: I have a phone

to the best of my recollection, TI doesn't have rights to the Qcomm stack which is the only WCDMA set out there from Cingular at this time

oh yes, the mobiles mentioned are not going to be 7.2 capable via sw
