Mms On Wm5 Smt 5600

I Have gone through all the forums and have tried changing the settings several times only to find myself right back where I started.
My phone (smt 5600) was at&t branded, unlocked and flashed to the latest rom available a couple of months ago.
I am not a novice at this as I have flashed this phone several times successfully and have not had any problems to this point. I didnt have any need for MMS when I originally flashed the phone to the latest Rom image and therefore didnt worry about setting it up in the begininng. Now, after several attempts at getting it to work, I have become frustrated and am looking for some help.......
when I try to download or send a picture message it starts trying to download the image and then suddenly just stops and the download button in the message center lights again....
any help would be appreciated.
