Working NES Emulator for Blackjack!

I've been obsessed with trying to get any NES emulators to work on the blackjack and none have been able to do it properly in fullscreen and without messing up the home screen icons. On modaco forums, Masterall has updated his version of PocketNesterPlus to support landscape QVGA. I can say that it works! I have gotten fullscreen, full sound, and controls to work.

First go to this thread and download PocketNesterPlus 0.9:

You will also need to install the tgetfile.dll linked on the first post of that thread(in order to open the files).

Once you have both installed you will need to edit the registry and change the value at:
HKCU/Software/PocketNester/NES/Graphics/
and change the value of GAPI to 0

Then use file explorer to open PocketNesterPlus and set the controls how you like, but do not use the enter key cause it crashes the program.

You can run most roms after that!
This is a work in progress, so try to give feedback for any errors on the modaco thread so Masterall can fix them.

Dang it's been out since the 9th and I didn't know. I'm slacking.

BlackJack value just went up. Might be the best control for games on a pda phone yet. That I've had anyway... I'm going to put something like a rubber o-ring on the dpad and I use O for B and P for A. Works good.

Still a lil' squished on the screen. Not quite using full screen. More like 90~95%. I checked "show all 240 scanlines" too. Still rocks though.

note: to configure the keypad. Left is up, up is right, right is down and down is left.

update: I think I'm going to wear out my dpad.

cant wait, so far I have been pretty disappointed with the lack of games availabe for this handset, but I've been very spoiled by my ericsson's with hundreds of games available for free

i loaded this on my blackjack, loaded getfile.dll, modified the registry, application unlocked my phone, and set up the controls.

I am to map the controls, but no matter what I map the "menu" key to, pressing this button will freeze the entire app. Without that I cannot get back to the main menu without end tasking the program. Anyone else experiencing this or found a work around? Thanks in advance.

First, don't use the return key as menu. I did this and it kept crashing. Second, once you press the menu key the game freezes. Then press one of the two top menu buttons (what are those called?) to change options or exit.

If nothing else, delete the pocketnester folder in the registry and start over(it will recreate it with the defaults).

After much fooling around the way I did it was dl the (1)appunlock.cab file (2) Pocketnester (3)that tgetfile.dll I then Bluetooth (1) open it up and installed then open up (2) install then (3) open and installed. Then just set up the controls and make sure you don't use the 'return' or 'menu' key to set up your buttons

does the install void your warranty? and where can I get the appunlock.cab? I did a search and only found a 40 page thread. I agree that it probably shouldn't be my first hack, but I'm eager to learn. Maybe I could PM someone for detailed instructions, or if someone could post a link to a site that has instructions, sorry for all the noobness.....

1. I believe you probably shoudnt but you always have the option to reset the phone to factory spec's.

2. Dl and run http://wiki.spv-developers.com/SDA_ApplicationUnlock.

3. Threads Author has instructions on install.

Doesn't Total Commander work better with PPC phones overall? Resco works perfectly with my Blackjack so I recommend using that.

What a great find! Thanks for sharing the information on this. I had been bemoaning the lack of good games for the WM5 platform, but the hundreds of NES games certainly solves the problem!

Did you guys need to edit the registry? Also, do you get a message saying tget is a trial when you open ROMS? I didn't need to edit the registry and Tecmo Super Bowl still works...Also, what do you guys use for the direction pad? The navigation circle?

There are two versions of the Tgetfile. One is a trial. There is another version out there somewhere that is a modified version of the file. I know I linked to it from this forum, so you might just have to dig around for it.

For you Zelda fans out there, you should check out a rom called "Ganon's Revenge". It takes the original Legend of Zelda and rearranges the entire overworld. It is pretty challenging. There are about 20 different variations of Zelda that I have downloaded, if anyone is interested in more information send me a PM.

please help me out with this, i unlocked the phone, (though i am not sure if i rebooted the sda ??

anyway i got the resco editor changed the number in the graphics folder from "nothing" to "0" i saw pocketnester thru resco, but for some reason i can not seem to load or run the program on the blackjack......thanks

I don't have GAPI, if fact I have nothing on the right side in any of the /NES hives

Is GAPI a DWORD or String?

Sup fellow fanatic, uh... OT fanatic.

When I went to edit the registry I didn't see GABI so I created a new Binary string and set the value to 0. I didn't even try to run roms before to see if it's neccessary.

If it's working, forget GABI.

Yeah, on your computer use Explorer to navigate to the PocketNester.exe, right click and copy, then paste a shortcut in the \windows\start menu

anybody know how to change the in game volume?, is this even an option? the only option i'm able to see is to turn off the sound completely, my default volume is super loud!

The volume buttons on mine work fine for controlling the volume in-game. It seems to just control it like a speakerphone call.

I have both programs installed and it knows to use that getfile program to search for roms but doesn't run when i click on the one rom i have installed.

i tried editting the registry right away before even running pocketnester, so there was no pocketnester or nes directories. duh. so then i ran the exe once, quit out and went back to the registry, there was a pocketnester directory but it wouldn't open, nothing inside of it. then i ran the appunlock.cab, restarted the BJ and then everything was available to edit in the registry. so wether or not it works without doing the edit, i don't know.

a shortcut for me is that i've created an 'NES' directory under my documents which has all the xxx.nes files obviously. as long as you've checked off associate .NES files in the preferences you should be able to use file explorer to find the game you want to play instead of finding the emulator then using that to open and search for a game.

I'm having the same problem. Everytime I restart PocketNesPlus it has all the settings reset. I had an old pocketnes that didn't work quite as well installed before this, but I removed it before I copied the new one. Could a mixing of registry settings be the cause?

Outside of that, I basically followed the directions of this thread.

For me, I have pocket nester recognize the roms and then just select the rom, for me this allows me to use the same settings.

What is the point of the registery change? I never did it and it works fine

Okay, maybe I'm retarded, but can anyone provide a link for the tgetfile.dll that isn't a trial version? There's only one version at http://tillanosoft.com/ce/tgetfile.html that is for SmartPhones and it is the trial version.

I unlocked, installed the tget... .dll, made a folder for PocketNesterPlus and dropped both it and a ROM in there - but when I browse to the directory on the Blackjack itself - it just says "No object" and it's as if the files are not there.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Maybe Im doing something wrong, But I go to total commander and open the ROM but it doesnt react to any keys... very weird... also why doesnt the program save settings? If I want to play during work the thing is blasting music while the phone is in silent mode!

My button setup is D-pad for direction, P for A button, back arrow under the P for B button, lower return arrow for C button (on PicoDrive), spacebar for start button, and * for menu button, I don't think PocketNester or Picodrive saves your button configuration until you "save game state" at least that's the only thing I've done besides load and play games and my configuration is saved on both, also the only way I've found to turn down the volume on both emulators from masterall on modaco is to pause the game with menu button, (not in game pause) and use left side volume rocker to adjust volume

That setup works great on picodrive! Thanks!

Quick question though.... Have you been able to save your roms to a memory card? My total commander will only locate the files if its in my phones memory (its located in the file explorer)

I DL mine from the first post of the pocketnester thread on modaco, and that was a while back so I don't know if it's still the same .dll file

I've updated my SmartGear emulator (GameBoy, GameGear/ MasterSystem, NES, PC-Engine, Genesis) with lots of improvements. Give it a try and let me know what you think. The Genesis code is still not fast enough, but that's my next goal.

technically, that's 3 buttons (direction, button a + b) using a tg-16 game, i was able to hit a dir and 1 button, or 2 buttons at the same time to use another weapon, but not 2 buttons and a dir....

I think I am retartded but Ive been at it 4 a few hours and cant figure it out. I installed both NES and Tget files however when I open NES all I get is a black screen and when i select "file" the phone seems to not find any roms. I googled roms for PNES but I cant figure out how to extract them to the phone. Does anybody know of a site that has a step by step on a Blackjack. TIA.

Also when I go through the registry with RESCO I cannot find the GAPI file. It just stops @ Graphics.

try coolrom or freerom for roms, they are usually .zip files, just open the zip file on your PC and extract the .nes file to a folder on your BJ, then when you have nester open, press file, choose load rom, then use menu to navigate to the folder you put your roms in, also you don't need to edit the reg to change GAPI value, it works fine without the hack

Thank you, did exactly as you said now everything works. I didnt have a "load rom" option though, all I had was "open rom" but it does the same thing obviously. Thanks again Slim724.

just copy it to your phone and run it from there, no installer at all.

I just got a blackjack and am trying to get this working. PocketNesterPlus will run and I can browse for a ROM but when I select it it doesnt run, It just goes back to PocketNesterPlus. Trying mario bros.

Any help is appreciated.

so i downlaoded the pcoketnester to my BJ.
and wen i go to load rom it says sumthin like the tgetfile.dll is not there
i dont knw how to properly load the tgetfile.dll to my fone.
i thot i jus put the zip on my fone and unzip it and its good.
but which tget to i use and where to i put it in my BJ?

I don't know where I found it... but I was having LOTS of issues trying to get NES and SNES emulators working...

Well I found somewhere a link that had the PocketNesterPlus for blackjack which was a cab file.. I copied the file over and installed it to the SD card. No fumbling around with the tget.dll or whatever trial version that prompts you every time you try to open a ROM.

This one never prompts you with that trial screen... and is all contained in a single cab file. Honestly I don't even know if it uses that tget.dll or whatever file.

I can't upload it, but I can email it to someone if they want to host the file or something.

k i know this is from awhile ago, but i just got my bj so thats why i need help now.. i put pocketnester plus on my phone as well as the tgetfile.spvarm, and NES emulator.. now when i open pocketnester and go to file, open rom, and find the game.. it starts like im about to play it.. but i cant start it. i push 1000 buttons til eventually the screens like frozen and off the to left.. im obviously a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff. i could use some help.. thanks!
