I am looking at a Blackberry Pearl, I really want it for email. Something I don't understand.....

Do I have to buy the "blackberry enterprise" software to get Microsoft Exchange Email? I am the only person at a very small engineering firm that will have a BB, much less use it for email. No way will they spend 3K on software for me to get my email like that.

Is there another way to do it or is this a wast of my money??

Thanks

just get a blacjack and setup push email there are a few sites like mail2web that offer free Microsoft Exchange Email

Your IT guys would need to configure pop or imap on the exchange server, you will then be able to use the bb personal service ($29-$35 a month).

I would take a blackjack, i guess...but i really like the pearl better.

I am the IT guy!! I will not be configuing for pop or imap as it wouldn't help. I want to be able to get mail on the account that is currently set up.

I found desktop software for blackberry...I am checking it out now.

Not following your reference to to the free service. I to am 1 of 2 in the IT group and we have an exchange 2003 server. No need for a free service if using the Blackjack right? This would be a push config on the exhange servers ... not a big deal to do this.

Sounds like the free service may have to do with the Blackberry email config.

If you wouldnt mind clarifying that would be great.

Cheers

Sure..

There is software called "BlackBerry Desktop Redirector" Which comes with "BlackBerry Desktop Manager" that you can download for free from the RIM site. I have DL'd it this am and have it installed on my laptop, just to check it out.

You install the redirect on a machine in your office that you can leave running. This software will run and send your mail to your BB.

How setting up POP access in your Exchange mailbox "not help"? I think you're missing the point. If you enable POP access on your mailbox, you can integrate your work email account with BIS.

You can also forward to your *.blackberry.net address. Not the best option but it does offer probably the fastest delivery without BES.

Another option is to try the OWA integration with BIS.

You can also try BES Express which comes with one free user.

Whatever you do, don't use redirector.

What? How does an Exchange hosting service help the OP when the OP already has an Exchange account at work? Never mind that your advice is to ignore whatever selection process (a lot of us know that we don't want a Blackjack despite all the hype) was already used. Geez...

I have been trying to add my work email (Outlook Webmail)to the BIS account. It logs on fine, but then 30 minutes later, I get an unable to validate message, and it will not validate until the next day.

What other options do I have in getting my work email to my phone without the help from IT. Keep in mind that I do not have permission to download any software like Desktop Director, etc...

What is wrong with desktop director?? Just curious....

Also..I guess you were correct..maybe i am missing the point. I will research pop and my exchange a little more.
