Water damaged blackjack??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My idiot friend ran out and bought a blackjack when he saw mine. He sorta got his wet though. The screen has a tiny piece on the left where its darker. He didn't know what to do, and i knew hofo was the answer. Its wet, it turns on and alll the keys work, but the ear speaker is extremelllly low, almost un hearable. He wanted to know if he told cingualr to exchange it if it would work. Makes me want to stay extra careful with my BJ

Edit: He also told me the USB/Charge port rubber thing is missing

Edit 2: HE just told me that when he means a little wet, it was basically covered with water

If he can't dry it out he will just have to buy another one. If he screwed up his phone he can't expect everyone else to pay for it by exchanging it.

If I were him, I'd buy another phone, You know how we hofo'ers are. But hes broke really, and he just wants to know if he can excahnge it.

PS he has no moral values

anybody have anything?

They wont exchange it for him because water damage is considered physical damage and not covered under warranty.. Even if he was to not say anything they WILL find out when they recieve his and WILL charge him for the replacement..

The honest thing to do would be to buy another one.. unfortunatly..

One other option is to take it to a local cell shop and see if they are willing to clean it out some and get it working.. But to be honest if he already tried scewing with it and putting the battery in the damage is probably already done.. The best thing to do when a cell gets wet it take the battery out and bring it to a repair shop and dry it out..

a few ways, but the sticker is just an easy way to tell. But once they open it up and see corrosion, its case closed.

I dont want to create a whole new thread for this, but how much is the Blackjack no contract for regular consumers from cingular??

WOW... I am magic, he gave it to me for a bit... like 30 mins ago and i was playing around with it and it works 90% now... the speaker just sounds a little tinny now and the lcd has those dark spots...

ANYONE know how to fix dark spots on the lcd... the rest is fine, like if its a white screen, those dark spots will show like an off white color... its weird. anyone have a fix?

PS: I am soooo gonna make him reward me for this

Posted by: BbcRiv

Those dark spots might go away when it dries fully.. if he's lucky.

I cleaned out a motorola v3i at my job that had those spots in it after getting wet and they just dissappeared after a day or two.. You should open it up and leave it open to dry well if you are skilled enough to do so.. If not then just leave it with the battery out for a day or two in a dry spot.

Ok, what ive told him to do is, what till it dries, sell it then buy a new one...

Or what if it works fine and its perfectly clear and i tell him to get a new one from XBM just in case... will they find out if its been exposed to water if he tells them if it has static in calls?

Posted by: chrisjf

this isn't the honest thing to do, but if he has insurance on the phone tell him to call and say he lost it or it got stolen. ive done it before sometimes the insurance reps can be ***** so it doesnt work all the time.

but he's probably screwed. just tell him to buy a new one.

Missing liquid indicator is the 2nd thing I look for when someone brings in a phone, 1st being the indicator itself. Nobody takes them off if they are still OK.
XBM will pull your phone apart and see the corrosion. If its got ANY issues with it, you can bet they are from coroded electronic parts.

Insurance is not an option on this model, so forget that as well.

Time to own up and go buy a new one. This is kind of like throwing your brand new TV in the river, then taking it back and saying "well hell, i dunno why it don't work!?!"

how long ago was it wet? Best thing to do is take it all apart (sim, battery, backplate) and let it dry on the dash of your car or in a warm dry area (oven on looooooooow low low low setting, with a close careful eye on it!)
This usually only works within minutes of it getting wet though

Dont forget there is another obvious way to tell once they open up the phone. A second indicator

Ask him if he will sell me the damaged phone for $100. I can use the parts

Posted by: KlamshellKing

Ok, the phone actually works almost 100% now... it was acting extremely weird today and yesterday he told me. He gave me one example of the phone kept registering 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 66 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6 6... and the power button doesnt always work... but he says its alright

Speaking of parts, does anyone know where to purchase a Blackjack LCD??? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find one. I don't care if its water damaged or not, I just need one that isn't cracked. I know how to take apart the LCD and dry the individual layers with alchohol and a q-tip, I just need a screen. I found them on Tessco for $33 for gold account holders, but I don't know anyone with a Tessco account. I'm figuring someone has a phone they fked up and can spare a screen.

had a black razr brother washed it itook off the sticker xbm it and never herd a word from cingular. i know its wrong.

XBM cracked down on all of the fraud about 4-6 months ago. Now, dealers have to exchange over the air, demo line holders like myself get hassled, theres a limit on how many warranty exchanges can be down per year, and alot more. Basically, they are taking all of the precautionary measures to prevent more fraud from going through XBM. They might have let some slip through, but XMBing a RAZR vs a BlackJack is a BIG difference. XBM WILL charge the fine for sending in a BlackJack that's not refurbishable. I deal with XBM at least 2ce a week.
