Zero Cost Blackjack direct from Cingular

So I've been out of contract for some time and decided I wanted the Blackjack. I tried to use Wirefly to upgrade but as I'm a business market account with Cingular it rejected me.

So I called up Cingular and they originally tried to put the upgrade through WireFly but couldn't. The then, without me pitching a fit etc, offered to mail the phone to me at zero cost with a 2 year extension. This matched the price after rebates with Wirefly (it's now gone up to $40 after rebates) but without the hassle of dealing with rebates.

Thought somebody may be interested in this. It would seem that Cingular is prepared to price match any online offers.

I'm sick of hearing about people getting these crazy deals on their phones. No offense but it's kind of annoying when you go into a store and they won't even show you the phone let alone get it for "zero cost".

Sounds like online might the only way to shop at Cing.

I've had mixed results going into Cingular stores. Sometimes they were 'too busy' to deal with me. Other times they just blew me off. However, a couple of times I got very helpful and eager to 'earn my business' type staff. WIth my last phone they wanted the sale and offered a service credit to match online prices (doesn't bother me if I'm paying for a phone or the service). That way they generated great revenue for their store (I don't know if they are on commission). It also depends when you go in; if it's during a quite time they are more likely to help. Also make sure you are dealing with somebody that can make that decision.

Remember cell phone companies don't make their money selling phones, they make it on the monthly service charges. They sell the phones at a huge discount in the same way razor manufacturers discount/give away razors so you have to buy their blades.

I just want to clarify that I didn't get my phone online, just got found the best deal and then called Cingular who checked it and matched it (in my opinion it was better as I don't have to deal with rebates).

Remember they should earn your business and treat you as a valuable customer! Especially with number portability you can always go to another provider.
