A Phone for a Utilitarian

Hey guys,

I'm trying to buy a new phone for my dad this Christmas, but I'm having difficulty honing in on a certain brand and model. I know that he has no desire for extra features like a camera, mp3 player, etc. He is with Cingular and would like to stay there. It would be nice to have tri-band or quad-band support. Also the phone should be pretty durable as he throws them around like cabbage. Call quality and durability are of highest priority.

I looked at the latest Nokias as I've always thought Nokias were like rocks. However, they look and feel cheap. I looked at the Motorola L series and thought they were nice, but I've heard Motorola's aren't durable and that the volume buttons like to change when in your pocket.

So I was hoping if you guys could give me recommendations.

Thanks so much!
Chris

Try to find him an old Nokia 6230b (important that you get the "b" model considering he is on Cingular).

...one of the best phones I have ever used in terms of reception and durability. It also has a vga camera and an mp3 player 'just in case' he ever decides he wants to go that route.
