Cingular GPRS/MMS/Email settings, official US release firmware +

Apparenly because of the server problems we're going through, the search function is disabled right now. Soooo, can someone help me out and give me any GPRS and other P800 settings for the Cingular network? I know there was a thread out there at one point for this.

I finally received my P800 from the SE online store (US) and am going crazy setting up the million and one features of the phone. Firmware version was R1D--which surprised me. I thought all this extra wait for the official US version was going to be because of a major new firmware release. Other versions are Bluetooth R2C, Organizer R1F01, CDA R1J01. Anything new here?

As for my initial impressions: I'm quite happy. I was really worried about the size, but it's turned out just right, any smaller and the screen wouldn't be big enough. The stylus does suck, even worse than I expected, but I know this can be easily remedied with a execupen or another aftermarket stylus.

There are a lot of little polish things though with the OS interface and apps that I think should be improved as the platform evolves. In the switch over from the large screen Symbian OS 5 for the Psion, to the PDA form factor Symbian 7, some useability shortcuts need to be thought out. It just seems like I need a lot of extra taps on the screen to do something versus the Palm. For instance, to edit a contact, requires a drop down menu (2 clicks). Copy and paste of items is always an extra couple taps. To add a new item to list, menu drop down, again extra taps. They need some toolbar buttons and copy/paste Jot shortcuts to streamline this stuff. Also, the task program could have the ability to edit priority on the item list.

Anyway, if someone could help me out with Cingular settings I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks!

Tristero, go thru CONTROL PANEL, INTERNET CONNECTIONS. Create a new GPRS account and name it. (I named my Cingular GPRS) Make sure you select GPRS as the connection type.

From there edit the new connection and click ADVANCED. User name and PWORD is required so check that box.

Username: WIXDC001@W5.MYCINGULAR.COM (those are zeros and it IS case sensitive.)

Pword: ZXY203DC9K0402 (also case sensitive)

Address: isp.cingular (i found lower case works well)

On the login tab, make sure both IP addy and DNS are set to automatic. Just click the boxes.

That's it. It works here in So. Cal. Works well, in fact.

There's a dial-up CSD setting, too. If you need it:

Create New Acc't (Cingular Dial-up?) Set new acct to dial-up

Username: WIDC0001@W4.MYCINGULAR.COM
PWORD: ZXY203DC9K0402
Phone number 18472549270
On the advanced section, I believe you can leave DNS and IP set to AUTO. But scroll through the tabs. When you get to SPEED:

Connection type Analog
Enable High Speed
Requested Speed: 9.6 (I s'pose you could go 14.4 but I'm not sure that it would work or matter).

Try it. Post back here and let us know how it all worked.

My thanks to woedee who once-upon-a-time had this all posted at pbase. Alas, woedee must have a life since he's not updated it.

lol, you caught me in mid-edit as I was tipping my hat to you. Great minds think alike. Thanks again, wd. Couldn't'a done it without you.

Glad to see youre spreading my tips; feel free to do as such! Now lets see, you are now an official procurator

The pbase Cingular Wireless Internet settings for P800 walk-thru I had put together will hopefully be updated shortly -- 1st on my to-do list (which is behind a week by the way).

To help eachother out - that is why we are here @ HoFo!

Procurator, huh? Darn close to Procurer. Now, if only I can find my fuzzy hat.

Thanks for the settings help guys. I'm still sorting through my million and one things to configure but I'll tell you how it goes.

And yes, I did notice that my firmware is behind, which is surprising. Since I live in Santa Monica, I'm glad to hear there's something within a motorcycle ride away for same visit firmware flashing (yay!) so I'll head down to Mission Viejo once there are enough firmware changes to warrant it.
