Lots of music/video options - see the thread on ESPN radio for BJ
Skype will be possible
Sirius streaming (though Edge is enough most of the time)

i'm in the greater LA area, and I still do not have 3G service. i'd suggest if you have a slingbox use it for that.

[QUOTE=jomo25]Slingbox - once it's fixed for BJ.

I am beta testing the BJ version of Slingbox mobile and its awesome. Should be out for public release soon. I need to make a video of it for everyone. full screen, favorite buttons etc.

One needs to invest in a Slingbox and get Slingbox mobile. Works very well with 8525 and soon, the BJ.

I try getting video to stream off youtube with ORB on my 8525, but all I get is sound and no video. Any solution to this?

Internet?? 3G here in NYC is a lot faster then EDGE and GPRS, so going from website to website and loading graphics is much easier and smoother. I could not see going back to a phone without 3G, thats why I didnt keep the Pearl.

Slingbox is nice, but I'd rather have Orb. The user experience with both is greatly enhanced by having 3g. EDGE is "good enough," but it's definitely not excellent.

Also a slingbox beta tester and the lastest version is basically perfect for the BJ. IMHO It blows ORB out of the water. If you have a DVR the slingbox is just a fantastic investment. It will wow anyone (most importantly YOU) and looks fantastic over 3G here in nyc.

If you use Slingbox, a person sitting at home can't use your DVR while you watch a show from your wireless device, so to me, Slingbox is only really useful with either live TV or a dedicated dvr. With a TiVo and Orb, you can, but you do have to leave a PC on at home. That's not a problem for me, but I can see how it would be for some people.

Also, Orb plays media (mp3s, videos, whatever) from your computer, which the Slingbox won't do. Since everything I'd ever want to watch is already either on my TiVo or my PC, Orb works well for me, without the expense of purchasing more hardware.

From what I've found is that the people that already have a sling box will defend it to the ends of the earth that its a good choice. if you're like me and already had a tv tuner card in a media center pc, orb is great. If anyone is looking to do one or the other, weigh what you want do with how much you want to spend if you need hardware for your pc and go from there.

Depending on the type of slingbox you have it has a built in tuner so you can access advr, tivo, dvd player, etc or you can access the built in tuner and watch tv that way. I also have Orb in the past and it works well with you movies etc. Definately way your choices like they said and weigh the options.

Both products are pretty damn cool. Depending on how you are set up one may be better for you. Slingbox's simplicity is pretty good and it doesn't require a PC to be running. PCs also can hang sometimes, which sucks if you are away for an extended period of time. The Slingbox has never locked up on me in the 4 months I've had it.

For either 3G makes a pretty good difference in how well they work on your phone.

It's been a lot longer than 4 months since my PC crashed. When it was having problems, it was a cooling issue rather than any software problems. It is a lot harder to keep a Windows PC from crashing than a Slingbox, though. My boss has had a Slingbox (now they call it "Classic) for what has to be at least a couple of years and he's never had a problem with it.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the Slingbox, it's just a PITA when you're not at home and want to use your DVR and someone else is and also wants to use it.

The other thing that's a bit nicer about Orb is that it will work on just about anything, while Slingbox is limited to PCs, Windows Mobile, and Palm. If you've got a laptop with decent battery life, a WM5 phone, or a Treo, that's obviously a distinction without a difference.

And yes, 500Kbit/s is much better than 120-150 when trying to watch TV on anything but a tiny phone screen, and even then it's still better, just not as much.
