I'm trying to flash my z710i to a w710i, but I'm having trouble installing the USB Flash Driver downloaded from their site.

For one, when I plugged the phone into my computer, I was never prompted to install a Sony Ericsson USB Flash Driver; only USB Mass Storage and Sony Eri Memory Stick drivers. I was never prompted to install new hardware as was shown in the instructions on wotan's site. I held "c", I removed my SIM and M2 stick, and still nothing happens.

I think it's because of this mis-step that wotan's ftp software doesn't detect my phone, and thus prevents me from reflashing it. Wotan's "solution" is to try another computer.

I'd appreciate any input I can get on this matter, thanks a lot.

Their instructions are crap. I had the same problem and the dialogs never popped up for me either after I ran the USB driver install from Wotan. I had to search HF and saw someone post the answer. What you do is take out your battery and memory card and SIM card. Then put the battery back in but don't turn the phone on. Start the Wotan software until it gets to the point to ask you to press C. Your USB cable should be connected to the computer already. While holding down the C button on your powered OFF phone, connect the cable and it should bring up the dialogs to install the USB driver and from that point you can follow their instructions that tell you to point the install to look for the drivers in that directory they were extracted to.

I've done that to some effect without any success. I just can't get that dialogue to pop up, it's strange. Wotan's down for maintenance now, so I guess I'll try one more time when it comes back up.

im gettin an error saying

ERROR: Client too old
Please download new client
UPDATE FAILED

im not sure if it is becuase thier sever is still down? or am I just not downlaod the right wotanclient?

On thier website it is saying that thier system was down for maintenance, but that was on the 16th of december, and they said it would be back online in a few hours. They have yet to update thier "news" sections saying they are back online, so im not sure if they are or arent.

Any ideas?

I'm getting the same error. I think they are still down. Apparently their "few hours" means "days" as it has now been 2 days. The bad thing is all the vague error messages you get through the updating process, like if their server is down, it tells you stupid stuff like to check your connection, or that your client is out of date. I'm seriously thinking of reporting to Paypal to get my money back. I don't even care about the $10 but it is the principle.

Agreed. I posted in another section about this exact problem. Few hours should mean few hours. At least change the news section to reflect that it wont be a few hours. I even put in a ticket this morning asking what the error msg meant when starting the client - no response. I was hoping to have this all done this weekend.

well ive updated using this service once before, and i havent had a problem with that phone since...

so its definately worth the 10 dollars imo...

ill just wait for it to be back up and do my other phone then
i just wanted to know if i was the only one experiencing this error

mine is running right now. It took me a few tries to get that dialog for the driver to pop up. Eventually it did and my w600 is flashing right now. perhaps the system is back up now.

if it doesn't prompt you, you can always go to device manager and uninstall the drivers so that the next time you plug in the usb cable, it will say "found new hardware"

i just flashed my phone this morning and it's working fine...so far.

This is probably the best way to do it. Plug your phone in once and let the phone boot up normally. It should prompt you if you don't already have a driver of some kind installed. If it doens't prompt you, 1) disconnect your phone, then 2)manually install the driver as mentioned above. 3) reconnect your phone while wotan is looking for it.(don't forget to hold c )

I bought a credit from wotan about a week ago, and with several e-mails to them and patiently waiting, they have not sent me any message or sent me my account information!!
