w810i or Samsung SYNC?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

originally, was going to purchase an e50 but im low on funds and have another semester of school yet so need the cash.

can get the w810i for free or sync for -$50

what do you guys think??

i've been a long time nokia user and basically use my phone to talk, very light texting, camera, picture viewer, and sometimes video during classtime. i like to watch episodes of family guy

what do you guys think i should get?

I would think the w810i would be plenty for video and picture viewing, and picture taking, and it also has a nice battery life so you can talk a lot to. If you can get this phone for free get it, and that extra $50 dollar you can put into that Samsung you should buy a memory card so you can store lots of episodes of Family Guy =].

Of course I'm saying this cause I own a w810i and I want to make it seem like its a good phone. Someone who has the Samsung SYNC may put what they like about it and who had both phones might have a better input of what you should get.

I have had the sync for a few days now. It has the best screen for a non-pda I have seen. Also with the 3g and cingular video, I watch Colbert Report "Word of the Day" every day The other thing I like is the stero bluetooth. But kinda wish the camera had a flash :/

Where can you get the W810i free?

amazon.com has it with an upgrade

well its $25 with a $25 rebate.

i think im gonna go with the sync for -$50. went into the corp store, w810i screen is pathetic compared with the sync.

Yeah...but it's still a Samsung. Unless things have changed drastically, it may have a great screen, but the crappy reception and low volume might change your mind. I have been tempted lately to buy a D900 slider because of the awesome screen...but the Samsung glitches keep me away. The w810i is a better complete package IMO, and the build quality is 100% better too.

Can anybody tell how is the SYNC earphone volume compared to the w810? I had w810 and it`s quite low but acceptable after while. Never had SYNC, but I`m wondering if it`s lower than w810. Thanks.

i believe samsungs quality has gone up significantly. i've only heard good reviews about the a707 and i made calls in the cingular store with both phones. and many hofo'ers who have been anti-samsung said that this phone has changed their perception on both reception and call quality for samsungs.

both were clear and the sony might have been a bit louder but more garbled.

also im not a big fan of sony stuff to begin with, which made my decision even easier.

Since you're "not a big fan of sony stuff to begin with", why are you asking for help in making a decision? Seems like you had your mind made up to begin with.

And...from the looks of your phone list, you got the A707 already.

well "ericsson" is on the end of sony so it changes things a bit.

but yeah i bought the sync today
the w810i couldnt justify the $50 price difference for me. plus the w810i is a like a little porker when i went to see it. it's small and fat and the screen seemed so much smaller and less clear as the qvga screen on the samsung

Don't know much about the sync but the w810i is a great little phone. Let us know how it works out.

The Samsung phones that came out lately pick up much better than ANY motorola phones EVEN THE RAZR OR SLVR phones.

You are not including the D807, are you?

Dare to dream, the W810i is made out of garbage plastics. I am astonished that they used such low-grade materials. Since you haven't even used the SYNC, you shouldn't be touting nonsense that isn't even true. The A707 has a much louder earpiece that that fat little brick you carry around, and the display is much superior (2.3" 320x240 v. 1.9" 176x220).

Wow! I hope all Samsung fanboys aren't quite as quick to take offense and respond as beligerantly as you do. I never put down your precious A707, just commented on the rep that Samsung phones have had in the past...poor sound quality, poor construction, and poor reception. If these issues have been corrected in the Sync...then that's great, and I am glad to see the improvement over the D800 and other recent Samsung "designer" phones that looked great but still reflected those traits of the past.

The w810i is an all-plastic phone, but I have been impressed with the lightweight but solid feel to the phone, in spite of my coming to Sony Ericsson from virtually all-metal phones like the Razr and Moto. V635. It's really pretty dense and sturdy for a plastic bodied phone, and not at all the "fat little brick" you describe in your tyrade above. In fact, several mobile phone reviewers have complemented SE on building such a good balance of a lightweight, yet structurally strong phone housing.

But, to each their own. That's the reason they make more than one phone.

Why do you say that? I haven't heard of problems with them breaking. In fact, there's a thread in the SE section where pople have dropped them, sat on them, and even scraped them along the concrete and other than the scratches they have survived fine. It is a powerful little phone, not a "brick", and the A707 sounds like a nice phone too. It's nice to have variety.

I must have a good d807 because mine has really good reception and volume. I heard some don't work well, but mine just runs circles over my dad's razr and anybody's slvr phone.

As for construction, I dropped it hard one time and it still works as good as the day I bought it. It's like a Timex...it takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin.

yeah i didnt mean for this thread to turn into a my phone manufacturer is better than yours.

i based my decision first on reviews of both phones. both received great reviews and then i went ot price where the sync was $50 cheaper. I prefer bar phones but the smaller size of the w810i and smaller screen weren't what i was looking for. seeing pictures on the internet and seeing a phone in person is a big difference. coming from a 6682 with a huge screen and bigger phone, i tend to like bigger screens and bigger phones where the sync fell right in.

hopefully i wont regret it, it'll be my first time with a samsung.

Just to clarify; he is getting the A707 for free, AND $50.00 in a rebate. available at letstalk.com ( imho the best on line seller)

Don't refer to the w810i as porky or a brick, because the Sync is HUGE! I just got back from the cingular store W810i for me, and I bought a Sync for my father, He's elderly and the Only reason I bought the sync is that it has Huge numbers on the screen (I actually didn't know it was the sync when I picked it out) Either way, the thing is fricking gigantic when opened, I could never deal with that. The W810i had a bundle of features packed into a sleek, compact package.
The sync has a much better screen, it's amazing. The w810i has a much better camera.

Posted by: egale1

Having had both, I chose to stick with the Sync. Volume was was too low on the 810i. As for camera, the Sony has a more feature rich offering but looking at output quality, the Sync delivers a better picture. The sony was not sharp and the edges blurry. The music player is better on the Sony though.

To each their own.
