well i finally switched and got rid of my god forsaked verizon razr. i started with the balckjack but wasnt impressed at all. now i have the 8125. after some consideration, i decided this isnt the phone i want to carry with me when i just want a phone. thankfully cingular uses gsm so i can just swap my sim card

however is there anyway i could get a duplicate card so i can use my razr for voice and my 8125 for data? i have an unlimited data plan.

oh and the sales rep told me i could use GPS with it without any reciver. he said it had something to do with the way GSM works. just wondering if anyone had any idea what software to use.

No you cannot have more than one card activated with the same number at the same time.

And yes you do need a gps receiver for the phone. Cingular uses triangulation for e911 purposes but I haven't seen it used for gps like services.

not acording to the manager at the store. hes kind of a buddy and told me he was gonna get me the software.... it uses the same formula as e911. he said the pucks are rediculously unaccurate. e911 can track to the yard. thats how verizon does their vznavigator.

Uh, verizon phones use gps.

Based off of that and what your "manager" friend said, I'll believe it when I see it.

Your friend is mistaken.

Unfortunely he was mistaken or wasn't the best of buddies. Verizon does use a built in GPS. In order to use GPS with the 8125, you will need to buy a (Bluetooth or USB) GPS receiver. You will also need to get some GPS software as well, I recommend iGuidance. As for e911, it is not nearly that accurate. The closest e911 can determine your position is about 165 feet but that can range up to 1000 feet. And that's only if you are near a minimum of 3 cell towers. If you are only near 2 towers, then you you could be in 1 of 2 places according to e911. If you are only near 1 tower, then you could be anyway around the tower in a 360 degree circle. Below is a quote from the FCC's website.

The wireless E911 program is divided into two parts - Phase I and Phase II. Phase I requires carriers, upon valid request by a local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), to report the telephone number of a wireless 911 caller and the location of the antenna that received the call. Phase II requires wireless carriers to provide far more precise location information, within 50 to 300 meters in most cases.

The Verizon phone works on a different network, CDMA, than ingular, GSM. They are not compatible and you can't use the Verizon phone on the Cingular network and vice versa.
