i believe T Mobile doesn't operate on the lower frequency that Cingular does, thus you should be fine.
I have a K800i and it picks up fine out here in Phoenix, and Los Angeles. So I assume it would work fine for you in NYC

But will the K800i work with ATT/Cingular? Or would i be better off with the k790 or k790a or k790i....
thanks

yes any triband GSM world phone will work but its just a matter of if it gets good reception or not. dont really know where u are from but if u want to be on the safe side then get a k790a.

tri-state area outside new york city... southwestern connecticut.
wow I cant believe I joined the forums 3 years ago... from what I have heard... a 3G phone such as the k800i can also work off the slower EDGE(egprs) signal.... or so I am told atleast

never been to southwestern connecticut but i know it should work fine in new jersey and new york city and around new york state.
k800i can only work with GPRS.

Yeah down here in southwestern CT, my service is just as good with my K800i as it was with my Nokia 6230b

I think TMO only uses 1900 instead of 850, so you will be good, or roaming
