difference between GSM and EDGE??

Ok so what is the Difference between gsm and egde logo on the screen?
my wife and I both have the same phone and hers has gsm and mine has edge. why would they be different?

that is interesting. Edge is a data acceleration technology based on GSM. IT is typically about 5-10 times faster (or 5-10 times less slow depending how you looks at it) than typical gsm (GPRS) give or take. Go to wap.dslreports.com and run speed tests on both to see if there is a speed difference.

You are confused my good sir...

the screen on your wifes phone is reading GPRS no GSM, and the screen on yours is in deed reading EDGE. The difference is the data speed that your phone is capable of on the certain network... EDGE is about 135kbps and GPRS is around dialup speeds.

Edge is everywhere and if you both have the same phones they should both read edge in the same area. Cingular phones need to be reset every 3 or so days by turning them on and off periodically. What kind of phones are you using...
