Blackjack headsets and ports

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I thought the blackjack was all that and a bag of chips, until I went to the cingular store and saw that this phone does not have a typical headset jack (not 3.5, not 2.5, nothing!). That's uber retarded. This means if you want to use a headset with it so you can actualy listen to movies and music without annoying other in publivc and looking like a fool, I must go out and buy either a friggin $100 + bluetooth headset, or an overpriced earbud headset that wont work with anything else . Plus, because the heaset would plug into the same port as the usb and the charger, I can't listen to things and charge it at the same time. Goodness gracious, what were they thinking when they designed it that way?

Anyway, my question is

1. What's the best (for the price) bluetooth stereo headset that IS NOT really big, and has a device that allows you to talk on it? If I have to go bluetooth, I guess I could always use the headset with my computer too.

2. Is there an adapter for the blackjack that will turn the usb port into a regular 3.5 or 2.5 mm audio/headset jack? I really need one, because with my smt5600, I used to use a car casette adapter, plugged into my phone so that the music and other audio would go into my car speakers (as if I were just playing music off the casette player).

If there isn't anything like this, I may seriously return this phone should I get it for Christmas. Any good replacement options?

Someone else posted about the product at http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?...=13180&cat=2047 for $13. I recently bought it and it works well. (The audio coming out of the Blackjack is far better than that from the 5600 or the i-mate SP5m/T-Mobile SDA/Cingular 2125.) It comes with a mic and an answer/hang-up button near the 3.5mm jack.

WOW, now that is useful! What a lifesaver! Thanks a lot for showing me, I was about to start bugging out . Only thing about that is if you're using headphones, the talk device would be far down the cord (with double the cord length including the adapter's), and you'd have to raise the low end of the cord to your mouth in order to talk on it. It'd probably just be better to disconnect the cord completely if you get a call, though inconvenient.

So, what kinds of bluetooth headsets fit my needs?

I don't know yet, but have been told that I may have more information on Monday. ;-)

you can get a BJ headphone adapter on ebay for like $5 plus shipping

yeah and dont cry cause a lots of phone manufacturers have there own proprietery jacks that you have to buy the adapters for . also I am using the motorola h700 bluetooth headset for this thing and it works fine

Posted by: ascalon

Ok, thanks. Well, if everyone is using these specialised usb ports, do you think it'd be possible for the phones to do video output like the samsung d900 with the proper cords and/or software?

I'm using the Jabra BT620s. It's a tad on the big side, but it sounds alright and the remote control functions are a huge plus. As far as calls on it though, I've had people I've talked to say it sounded horrible on their end, but I could hear them just fine. Oh ya, and your Blackjack is gonna be wicked sluggish when you're listening to audio with them.

I'm planning to get the Bluetake BT450RX stereo bluetooth headphones (with microphone). Anybody have these, they're supposed to be very good, and they're really compact. Can't believe I might pay $100+ for headphones...

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-I607/I607FG1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; Smartphone; 320x240))

i hope a real headphones manufacturer makes a pair of bluetooth headphones. then ill justify spending over 100

I saw a BT headset today at a Cingular store that was a bit smaller than the 620s and other BT headsets I've seen before. I can't remember the name of the manufacturer at the moment. Their a smaller company that makes a few other items too, so it was one i recognized. If I remember it (or if anyone else knows), I'll post it. They were similar wraparound headphones, but the earpieces were about 25% thinner than the 620s.

Saw it posted somewhere else - the headphones were Southwing headphones. Someone said the sound was good, but the range on them was not good (i.e. he kept his phone in pants pocket and would get some static).

Is this a trustable website, or have any of you bought from these people?

I believe I got jipped by another website earlier this year, and I don't want a repeat of that crap. Thanks.

I just bought the blackjack, with southwing headphones and the sound quality isnt that great. They are not very loud either, which i personally find annoying. I really want to find earbuds that work with the blackjack...does anyone know if the Jabra BT320s would work with this phone? That would be too good to be true. If you have any suggestions please private message me. THANKS!

I just got the Sony HBH-DS970. I like it quite a bit, though I've only used it for about 2 hours. But the sound quality and sound isolation are damn good, it works well as both headphones and headset, and the design is pretty sharp IMO. You can control everything from the controller. You could use this with your PC or your phone.

See this thread: http://howardforums.com/showthread....highlight=DS970

I've not experienced the static claimed in the thread - I was 10 feet away without any issues in my limited testing thus far. you can also find a couple of thorough reviews on the web - just Google HBH-DS970.

Also, there are BT adapters that let you plug in your own 3.5 headphones from i.Tech and Jabra at least.

The Jabra BT320 will work with the BJ. As will the i.Tech S38. I still prefer the Sony. I got it via DayDeal.com just this morning...

For the money, size, and sound I have been happy with my NextLink Spider that you can get at RadioShack. http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...rentPage=search

Also, they are a Bluetooth Class One device which means that they are good to 300 METERS (line of sight) compared to 33 meters. The battery life has been great and the controls work wonderfully.

I really have to thank santa for this one!!

I have the HTC BH S100 (rebranded iTech Clip R35) which work great. Plus you can use any headphones you want (that was the selling point for me).

Anyone know if this works on an SGH-i320? The plug looks about the same as the blackjack.
